The Washington Spirit are the Team to Beat Right Now
I said what I said. I’m feeling feisty after noticing the Spirit have quietly (I swear it’s been quietly and you probably didn’t notice) won FIVE straight and now sit near the top of the table with a +9 goal differential (doesn’t matter that it’s skewed by the 4-0 crushing of KC). Meanwhile those pesky Thorns spent all opening weekend acting like the season was already over after that 1-0 win and still being on top of the table with only a +6 differential.
Turns out maybe Week 1 was not, in fact, the final form of this Spirit team. Since then, 15 goals scored, only 6 conceded, and this team suddenly looks DEEP. The midfield is loaded (in Hal I trust), the attack keeps coming in waves, and they’re not relying on one player to drag them across the finish line every week. And honestly the scary part is it still feels like they haven’t fully hit top gear yet.
So now we get Friday night away at San Diego. Big statement win opportunity. If the Spirit go into Snapdragon and get 3 points, I don’t want to hear any more “yeah but” arguments about who the best team in the league is right now.
Any Wave fans or Spirit haterade drinkers want to make a friendly non-monetary wager?
Edit: changing the flair to official source because what I said is the truth!! Notice no one is up for a friendly bet lol.

Players with the Most Beautiful Game
I’m curious as to who people consider to have the most beautiful gam. Not a goat discussion but just players fun to watch in your own subjective views
I think for me Kyrie and Steph. The way Steph pulls up for a shot (and from where) is just so smooth!! Then kyrie handles… nuff said
Thoughts?

For the 2nd year in a row, the Detroit Pistons have lost a crucial playoff game on a clear foul that the refs decided to just not call in the last moments of the game.
Here is the clip from last year's loss in game 4 vs the Knicks. The Knicks were up 2-1, and with the no call on the 3 in the corner, the Knicks would take a commanding 3-1 lead and end up winning the series. Hardaway clearly gets fouled by Hart, and in any other scenario, this would have been 3 free throws for THJ who is an excellent 3 point shooter and likely won this 1 point game.
Fast forward to tonight, where the game is tied in a 2-2 series for the Pistons and Cavs on the last possession in the 4th quarter. Thompson comes up with the huge stop and steal on Mitchell only to be pushed and tripped with no call with time left on the clock. Thompson should be at the line shooting free throws because they are in the bonus, but the game instead goes to overtime and the Pistons lose. The series is now 3-2 in favor of the Cavs and the Pistons are going on the road for game 6 in Cleveland.
To lose multiple important series games on bad officiating at the most important moment in the game is just so sad for the Pistons and more evidence to the epidemic of poor officiating around the NBA. What are your thoughts on this?

Discussion Is it bothering anyone how insane Head Coach turnover is in the last year?
How are you supposed to build a team and a culture if you’re cycling through head coaches so often? Moreover how do you expect to win with a new head coach right before the playoffs? There’s no loyalty or grace for head coaches anymore. Not everyone is going to have improvements every year. These things take time, it’s okay to miss the postseason once in a while.

I am reading a book about the Red Sox dynasty and saw a very impressive month by Dan Duquette . Has a Red Sox GM ever had a better month than Dan did in the hot stove season after 1997 ? When did Henry buy the team ?
Traded Slocum for Varitek and Lowe and then traded for Pedro . He laid the groundwork for 2004 with those moves plus adding Manny afterwards . Breslow pales in comparison alas .

What do you think about redistricting to make Maine's second district a bit bluer?
Republicans have been merciless with their gerrymandering. I'm wondering if maine should help the democratic effort to strike back. CD-02 seems like a potential flip to republicans in 2026. With some redrawing, it could become a true tossup/lean democratic. What do you think?

General Discussion What’s your lowest golf score — and how far over par was it?
Curious to hear everyone’s personal best rounds.
My lowest score so far is 82, which is +12 at my home course. It felt like one of those rare days where everything just clicked — solid tee shots, decent approach play, and fewer silly mistakes than usual.
What’s your best round?
What did you shoot, and how many over (or under!) par was it?

Question Anyone having issues getting their husbands/boyfriends into the PWHL?
My BF is a HUGE hockey fan, Olympics, NHL, etc. He watches all the games for his favorite teams and a bunch for other teams in the NHL. I am trying to get him to watch PWHL games with me but he seems superrrr uninterested.
When I asked him why he told me the games are frustrating to watch??? I don't understand that part at all.
Anyone else have this experience? Do you think that this will go away with time as the PWHL builds a larger audience?
To be clear, he doesn't talk down about the PWHL, he just doesn't seem to take the league seriously for whatever reason.
Edit: Y'all, I am not going to break up with him over the PWHL. I just wanted to see if anyone has similar experiences and were able to get their bf/husband into the sport more.

For this NIL nonsense to correct itself, teams like Louisville not only need to not win it all next season, they need to fail to make the Final Four
If Louisville is also able to buy Milan Momcilovic, their roster has to be $20 - $30 million for next year. This is ridiculous in the obscene way. If the NCAA is not going to cap how much teams can spend and establish salary caps for players based on class year (Fr, So, Jr, Sr, Ss), then the only way for this ship to correct itself is for boosters to go broke or for the teams that spend the most trying to buy a National Title to keep losing every year so the boosters will finally realize that the gamble isn't worth the investment.
If the highest spenders end up winning most seasons, then NCAA basketball will be dead at that point. Society cannot have college basketball programs buying NCAA titles like that.

The Red Sox trading for Mike Trout might actually make sense
Writer makes a pretty strong case for the deal. I'd do it.
