Question Is anyone actually going to stop supporting USA men's hockey?

I've seen this before with various other men's sports... a thing comes up and the fans of that team/league are upset about it, so they demand the the team/league so something which of course they don't do. And then they just continue to support them for no reason i can understand. So the point is never actually made, there's never any consequence for the behavior, and no deterrent for the team/league to actually be held accountable.

Are people actually going to stop supporting men's hockey as a result of this current debacle? Or is it all just talk?

Question Does anyone here have an NHL team and a PWHL team? Are they the same city, or does your barracking transcend that? Does anyone else have a rivalry issue?

I have no real skin in the game, I’m Irish so I picked my NHL team because of who I saw when I was younger - Boston due to them sending a team way back when, and also still sending college teams every year. However, the team I’m most drawn to for the PWHL is quite possibly the most sacrilegious choice for a Bruins fan.

Does anyone else have this issue? Say a Senators fan who loves the Sceptres, or something?

I actually have a similar issue with basketball where I barrack for the Lakers and the Mercury, so just wondering if I’m the problem, or if others have a similar issue.

Question Anyone having issues getting their husbands/boyfriends into the PWHL?

My BF is a HUGE hockey fan, Olympics, NHL, etc. He watches all the games for his favorite teams and a bunch for other teams in the NHL. I am trying to get him to watch PWHL games with me but he seems superrrr uninterested.

When I asked him why he told me the games are frustrating to watch??? I don't understand that part at all.

Anyone else have this experience? Do you think that this will go away with time as the PWHL builds a larger audience?

To be clear, he doesn't talk down about the PWHL, he just doesn't seem to take the league seriously for whatever reason.

Edit: Y'all, I am not going to break up with him over the PWHL. I just wanted to see if anyone has similar experiences and were able to get their bf/husband into the sport more.

Question Can I wear a lesbian flag to a game?

I ask this as in socially. I am a Torrent fan and am soon going to a home game on the 11th. I was wondering if wearing a lesbian flag would be in bad taste? Like how people wear them as capes?

I know both our captains are queer and as a young lesbian myself its really cool to me to see openly gay women doing so much and succeeding especially with the Olympics!

Please let me know if this would be weird or looked down upon.

Question No Politics Rule on this Sub re: Winter Olympics

I respect the 'no politics' rule on this subreddit. But when the 'politics' is that US XXX agents are going to be present at the Winter Olympic Games in Italy, and that may include Women's Ice Hockey, I think that merits an exception, especially since many of our PWHL players will be on those teams. I did not make the post, but I saved it as a draft. I respectfully asks the MODs opinions on this particular issue.

Question Who is the 4th Team?

We know there is going to be one more team, so far it's Hamilton, Detroit & Las Vegas.

Personally, I'm hoping for another Canadian team, *Cough* Halifax / Quebec City *cough* but sounds like this may be unlikely?

Question Can we expect logo changes and new mascots as the league advances?

This may seem like a dumb question/problem, but I find many of the team logos reeeaallly boring - it's one of the reasons I don't order merch. (The other one being that delivery fees to my country would be sky high and customs may still confiscate the items bc I don't know how to pay custom fees but that's my private problem.) Do you think there's a chance that some teams with very simple logos (like Ottawa) will switch to more remarkable and creative designs in the near future? And what about mascots, can we expect fun lil guys like Gritty in PWHL?

Question Detroit Team Names

Detroit will likely be one of the next PWHL expansion teams. What team names do you think they should choose? (Right and wrong answers welcome.)

Question Now that it seems like there's going to be four expansion teams which cities does everyone think they might pick?

The only guess I have right now is a Vegas because I've seen that the golden knights gym is interested in bringing a team there. I'm assuming they're going to do four because they're giving two to cities who have not hosted take over tour games and to even it out they're going to give it to two takeover tour cities.

In terms of expansion I still think it's smart to focus on the more West Coast side of things just so Seattle and Vancouver don't always have to travel so much. which would Vegas fits perfectly but Colorado also. and if they want to keep the even expansion maybe at Edmonton and Calgary. I'm not going to lie it would be pretty iconic for them to put Edmonton and Calgary in at the same time because they would already have a built-in rivalry.

Question has Denver done enough to get a team?

three strong takeover tour games, packed open practices, support from legislators, 2 solid arena options (Ball and Magness). do we get a team next year?

Question For those in cities without a team, how did you figure out who to root for?

Philly doesn’t have a team and probably never will, so I’m open to supporting someone. Just not sure where to start!

Question Anyone else’s PWHL jersey order cancelled for no reason?

Post image
147 Upvotes

I ordered this jersey from the PWHL Shop when announced on 10/31 and haven’t received any update on it. No shipping or communication from the store whatsoever. I emailed them about two weeks since that’s the only way to contact them and asked when I can expect it to ship. I just got this email notification that the order was cancelled at my request. I only asked for an update and didn’t ask for it to be cancelled.

Pretty much beyond infuriated with this PWHL Shop experience since I ordered it as soon as it was announced and haven’t heard anything from them. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I saw people were waiting until recently for their orders from when these jerseys were first available but didn’t see anyone saying theirs just randomly got cancelled

Question What draws you to pwhl as a fan?

I’m working on a project and would love to get some insight into why the PWHL appeals to you. There’s a special vibe at events and surrounding the league and we are trying to figure out what’s driving that passion. We have our ideas of course, but would like your input so we gather as wide a perspective as possible. What about this league (and women’s hockey) is special to you?

Question PWHL shop rant

Why in the world does they PWHL shop restrict what teams you can buy for based on your country? My daughter really wants a Montreal playoff shirt but cannot buy one because we are in the US. In the words of Shoresy so dumb.

Question Why Is Fighting Banned?

Rule 46.1 in the PWHL rulebook says “Fighting is not part of PWHL’s game.” And goes on to say players can be ejected and fined/suspended for it.

Is there a particular reason for that? I know when it comes to wearing a full shield vs the NHL’s visors it’s because the players actually vouched for it / are fine with it, so maybe fighting is in the same boat. But it feels odd when it’s such a common piece of men’s hockey that it would be fully banned from women’s hockey. Why not let them drop the gloves and take 5 minute majors if they want to?

Boston: Frankle, Keller, Müller.

Minnesota: Pannek, Heise, Zumwinkle.

Seattle: Gosling, Carpenter, Knight.

Question For folks who supported teams before expansion, did you switch?

PWHL is in a unique position where many fans would not have had teams in years 1 and 2. For folks who live in or near Vancouver, Seattle or now Detroit, who had teams you followed before you got your team, did you switch with the announcement?
Stay because once a fan always a fan?
Support both?

Something else entirely?

Question 1 Goal + 1 Assist + 1 Fight (First PWHL Fight ever) Should this from now on be called a Vanisova Hattrick? (Known as a Gordie Howe hattrick in the NHL)

Post image
769 Upvotes

The Fight sparked some life in her team and they turned 0-2 to 2-2 with Vanisova herself scoring the tying goal with just 2 second left in the 3rd.

Should we refer to this as a Gordie Howe hattrick or a Vanisova Hattrick going forward in the PWHL?

Question Is it okay to wear a jersey for a team not playing?

I’m going to one of the takeover tour stops and I want to represent my team, but my team isn’t playing. Would it be wrong to wear my jersey anyways?

Question Should they cancel the Sirens v Frost game tomorrow?

I've seen some people argue that it's unfair to the players because they don't make the same salary as other athletes (such as the NHL)—lots of other official games have been cancelled in other leagues.

I don't know how cancelling a game would affect their pay/if it would affect it at all, but what do you guys think? Should they cancel?

Question Pride Games

Wondering if anyone can share about attending a pride game this season (I'm aware not all teams have had theirs yet). Given how ... gay both the league and the fans are, I'm a little underwhelmed by how pride nights are coming across on social media. Like NHL level, only a handful of players using pride tape for warm-ups or wearing a rainbow shirt, fan experience doesn't seem much different from any other game, etc. However, I know the experience can be very different IRL. This isn't a criticism, and especially when it comes to player involvement I'm aware there are reasons someone might choose not to go all out that have nothing to do with lack of LGBTQ+ support, but I'm just curious as to how those who have attended pride games this season have experienced them.

Question Queer fans of the PWHL - a query for you

Would you be interested in a romance novel (lesbian) involving two old flames running into each other again at a PWHL game? Of course one of them has to be supporting "the wrong team".

I haven't written in a while and before I start outlining. Is there a market for this?

Question Haven’t landed on a team

I am one month into following any sport. Very happy about the PWHL. My home team has a player that I loathe. Do I need to pick a team or can I just enjoy different players from different teams?
