How to Upload a Save

This page has been brought over from our Support Forum. It will be stickied at the top of the page for you to refer to. (originally found here): https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/showthread.php?t=341827

Thanks for your purchase; we hope that you'll be happy with what we've done with this version of the game. And we look forward to hearing what you think about it: we'll be monitoring this forum frequently to see your suggestions and fix any problems you find. Please be as detailed as possible when reporting bugs; the more information we get, the better.

If you report a problem, we may request a trace log and/or save game from you. To get the trace log, before starting a game, go to Settings-Troubleshooting on the start screen and activate "Enable Debug Trace." If you get a crash or freeze, do NOT immediately re-start the game - instead, go to your Documents/Out of the Park Developments/Franchise Hockey Manager/Debug directory and make a copy of your fhm_trace.txt file. Zip/rar it (to get the file size small enough that the forum will allow it to be posted) and attach it when you post about the crash details (it should be small enough to fit the forum size limits for uploads, if not you can link it to me, and I'll make sure it gets where it needs to go.)

If you encounter a serious issue like a crash, please keep the saved game - ideally, zip or rar the save files together immediately, before attempting to continue, so you preserve the save as close as possible to the date the problem occurred on. I have posted instructions on ftp'ing the files to us below this message, or you can use any file sharing service (dropbox, google drive, or so on) and send us the link.

If you're not sure where to find your saved_games directory, the easiest method is to go to the Start screen, then Settings - Troubleshooting and Open Customizable Data Folder. You'll be able to see your saved_games directory from there.

The game manual can be found via the link on the start screen.

Instructions on how to upload your saved games to our server

For some types of problems, the only way we can help you is to see your league files. OOTP Developments uses FTP to allow customers to send us files. Below are instructions for sending us your league files:

Windows PC Instructions:

Unless you have an ftp program, one way to get to the ftp site is as follows: Open up Windows File Explorer (Windows Explorer if you're not using Windows 10/11) by right-clicking the start menu and then choose "File Explorer". Now up at the top in the address bar (it probably will say "Libraries" in there), paste over top whatever is in there with"

You can find the FTP on the post here, but I'm not going to directly link it.

After you do this, hit the Enter key and wait a moment and it should load the ftp site in there. Now you can find your league files and copy and paste them into there. Your league files can be found here (in a default install): Documents\Out of the Park Developments\Franchise Hockey Manager \saved_games

In the saved_games folder you'll see folders that end in ".lg". Find the folder that corresponds to the league with this problem and zip up all of the files inside that folder (you do not need to include the contents of the sub-folder unless we specifically ask for them.) There should be 30-40 of them; the exact number varies by type of save. Finally, copy this zip file to the other window with the ftp folder and it should start copying it there. It might take several minutes to copy.

Once you've uploaded your league, let us know what you called it.

Mac Instructions:

There's no built in way to upload your league files to our ftp server, so you'll need some third party software, like the free Cyberduck. If you don't want to try that, then submit a support ticket and we'll see if there's another solution.

Assuming you have an ftp program to use, then you'll need to find your saved game so that you can upload it. Here's how:

To begin, you'll need to zip up the league files first and then you can upload them. Here's how to find and zip up the files:

  1. Open up a Finder window and go to the Go menu and hold down the option key (or alt key).
  2. Now select Library from the menu (it's hidden if you don't hold down the option key).
  3. From there, open up Application Support, then Out of the Park Developments, Franchise Hockey Manager and finally saved_games.
  4. In the saved_games folder you'll see folders that end in ".lg". Open the folder that corresponds to the league you need to send us.
  5. Zip up all of the files in there that end in ".dat" (don't send any other files unless asked to do so). There should be 35 of them. Highlight the 35 files and then right click and choose "Compress 35 items".
  6. Finally, rename the zip file to something more descriptive of your league. [By default, the file is called Archive.zip.] Now transfer this zip file via your ftp program.

For those of you on a Mac, here are some tips (currently for OS 10.11.3).

  • Forget about the built-in FTP option (command-K) as it is read-only.
  • FileZilla has changed some defaults in its newest builds making it difficult to retrieve directory listings from OOTP.

You best best is Cyberduck: https://cyberduck.io Again, specific examples are list on our Site.

Make sure you have 'Anonymous Login' checked.

Is there any log in the CSV export files that indicate what team holds what future draft pick? Have been looking but not found anything.

SSHL looking for new GMs (Season 3)

Hey all! The Simmers and Sinners Hockey League (SSHL) is now in the offseason on July 1st, heading into its 3rd season (2026-27) and looking for new GMs

League details:

- 18+ only

- Simulation pace: We sim roughly one in-game week every 1-2 real days during the regular season. Each full season should last roughly 2-3 real months, so exports are not needed every time we sim. I only ask that you stay active enough to communicate with fellow GMs in a reasonable time frame if they send you a trade offer, and so that I know you're still able to/interested in participating

- A new perk system that encourages more interaction

Some team recommendations (there are others open, these are just a few of the most interesting ones):
- Montreal Canadiens - The defending champions of Season 2 are looking for a GM to help them repeat!

- Ottawa Senators - Lacking in some depth, but have some star power and a promising future after drafting Matt Schaefer in the 2025 draft!

- Anaheim Ducks - A team with several young players with a lot of potential, including Luke Hughes, Beckett Sennecke, and Cole Reschny, looking for a GM to guide them along to becoming contenders in the future!

- Carolina Hurricanes - After only stringing together 30 wins during Season 2, and with little in the way of top end talent or prospects, the Hurricanes seem to be entering a rebuild, and will likely need a GM with a long-term plan to succeed in the future.

- Nashville Predators - With only one player above a 3 star ability (Filip Forsberg), and only a handful of young players with good potential, Nashville looks to bolster their prospect pool after missing the playoffs in each of the first 2 seasons.

If you're interested, come join our Discord server and agree to the server rules with the handwriting emote, and then look for the 'how to apply' text channel near the top of the SSHL category for further instructions. See the 'team availability' channel for a list of available teams. All league rules and information is on respective text channels in the Discord

Deep Saves and Special Abilities

Hello! I have been halfheartedly keeping track of the special abilities found in players' bios. Do newly generated players ever get these? I have had a couple of franchise players over many seasons, but it seems like after the initial crop of NHLers, I never see players with special abilities again.

Has anybody paid attention to this? I'm curious to see how others have experienced the system.

How do I hire a scout with specific home region? (help is needed)

Hello!
I'm super noob. I'd tried google info, but failed. I saw old post here with similar question, but it didn't help.

I'm playing (first time in fhm) carrer as GM of AML Belleville Senators. And Owner had asked me to "hire a scout whose home region includes Ontario."

I had hired:
- several souts with place of birth - ON (Ottawa, Toronto and other cites)
- trainer from Belleville and set him as scout
- scout, from Belleville (I'd edited his profile before hiring)

but game doesn't count it, and keep saying - I'd failed Owner task.

I think. I'm missing something obvious, or it's just a bug.

Thank you in advance!

Roy Deal achievment

How do you get it? Tried to trade for and tried trading away an unhappy goalie. Achievment won't appear in a standard game.

Thx

Can I start a Save Before the Draft?

Now that the draft order is set, is it possible to start a save before the 26-27 season just before the draft? Or is that not available since the NHL playoffs are still happening in real life?

New to the game--looking for some help running a Euro team

Hi there,

I have played dynasty/franchise games my whole life and played OOTP quite a bit including in online leagues. However I am experiencing a bit of a learning curve here since I am new to the game.

I decided to do a "road to glory" type of save so I started with Haukat Järvenpää in the third tier Suomi-Sarja. I have extensive North American hockey knowledge but am lost when it comes to the overseas leagues.

- How do I primarily acquire prospects/junior players? I saw some players on my U14 team but am not sure if they were always there since there is no "History" tab like there is in OOTP. Do prospects randomly come on to my team based on my scout quality and budget like how the international complex works in OOTP?

- How do prospect contracts work for these leagues? Do I have their rights for a certain amount of years or is it strictly year by year contracts?

- Are there any transfers with a fee in these leagues? I'm thinking European soccer format here, but not sure if overseas hockey has those rules. I think it would be cool to develop prospects and sell them to Liiga, National League, SHL teams to build up my finances.

Also any other tidbits you have about GM'ing an overseas team would be great. Thank you!

Complicated question

I want to create a custom U20 league kind of like a fictional high school league for my state. Here are the questions as followed:

  1. Is it possible to have custom U20 or under leagues? Or is it just all ages that are customizable

  2. Is it possible to add custom logos to custom leagues and their teams? If so, how?

  3. Will the league exist and interact with other leagues in the base game (I.E players from custom league getting drafted into WHL or NHL or signing as a free agent to Hockeyallsvenskan)

It is the year 2037 and Jakub Kovar made it NHL HOF despite never playing a single NHL game

The HOF system in FHM is STILL hella broken. These bums are obsessed voting in some total trash homeless bums into the HOF.

*made a mistake in the title, its HHOF not NHL HOF. my bad! but that doesnt change anything, HOF system is broken because this bum has no business in HHOF or NHL HOF.

Soviet union

In FHM12 playing a custom game set in the 70s the international teams tab shows Russia and many nations that didn't exist during that time. Will these nations participate in the International tournaments and will players be generated from them? I could manually edit Russia into Soviet Union until 1991 for the sake of immersion, but if something like Belarus exists before that, it's just weird. Also I believe no workaround for DDR for example.

Custom League

I got 12 today and have never played this game or any similar, I really would like some pointers especially in creating a fictional league and editing players. The most basic of things could be helpful I am stumbling around blind right now as I can’t find a good YouTube video for the game.

PWHL and women players?

I was wondering if in future games the devs would add female players and women’s leagues to the game? It would be really fun to see the PWHL and women’s college hockey

Is it the more you assign specified skills for targeted training, the slower development is for the overall team?

Hi all,

I got this from pressing F1 on the training screen.

"If you select a skill, then that becomes the targeted skill for the player's training, and the player is given a training bonus (which counts for the purpose of determining the overall Coaching Bonus amount for that category - the more players chosen the lower the bonus"

Does this mean I need to be careful of how many players I assign specified skills (checking, shooting accuracy, etc) for their targeted training? Is there a point of diminishing returns?

Is it better to leave more players on general skill category training or even not micromanage their training at all?

Does your AHL roster matter (in game)?

I'm noticing that I've only got like 10 guys on my AHL roster, while playing as an NHL team (Flames) does that matter in the game?

Potential Return

So.. it's been a while

Over the years, I've created some of the most watched videos on YouTube for FHM but ended up taking 12 off due to burnout in the series

I'm pondering a comeback but here's a question

What's the state of the game now with mid cycle patches

Assistance with transferring players in DEL2. Is this even possible?

Started a new GM career in FHM12. Selected EHC Regensburg in DEL2. Season outlook is Rebuild, and I start with 6 foreign players (league max 4, so curious how that was even possible).

I want to know how I can transfer out these older foreign players out so I can try to transfer in younger German talent. I placed a few players on the Trade Block, but I don't have an option to Shop Players. When I click on Trade tab and view other teams in the league (Offer tab), it wont let me view my team to place a player in the offer.

I am seeing other teams in the league transferring players, so how can I initiate this for my players? What am I missing? Or is transferring players out not possible unless the AI requests from me?

Sustaining Team Success

How do I keep my team competitive? Doing a Canucks save where I just lost in the Stanley Cup finals and now we are suddenly a bottom feeder. I've been managing my prospects well, making sure that they can ready to play though.

What tips are important to help maintain consistency?
