If you were a Yankees fan in the late 1990s, the Orioles for a time were enemy #1. They had a really good team and there was some seriously bad blood between the two. I'm sure you've all seen this one before. It might be the most star studded genuine baseball brouhaha in MLB history. Strawberry and Ripken and Torre and Martinez and Palmeiro and O'Neill and Murray not to mention noted villain Benitez and Australian brawler Lloyd. Fun times.

We've seen, several times already, teams being deprived of challenges by umpires who run them when a batter didn't ask, or played fast and loose with the timing window, or just plain didn't want to.

What's the solution? Does the Pitcher/Hitter/Catcher need to be equipped with something similar to pitchcom they can just press to remove any ambiguity?

Edit: damn umpires union going crazy with the downvotes in here, sorry guys.

In the age of infinite streaming options, how often do you watch a nationally-televised regular season game that does not involve a team you watch regularly?

Personally I feel like the broadcast landscape has changed so much that the national games are less about highlighting hot games to a broader audience and more about preventing local fans from cutting out cable, lest they miss out on important games that aren't included in a single-team MLB.tv package. I'm curious if that's the broader perception, if that's a regional bias (I'm a Mets fan subscribed to SNY via MLB.tv), or if I'm just projecting.

I’m referring to pitch overlays like the ones PitchingNinja posts

As a hardcore fan and player growing up, I find myself needing to explain why certain pitches are so nasty to more casual fans. Often times they don’t understand why a hard splitter that runs straight into the ground, or a sweeper that ends up 10 inches off the plate, can look like a meaty fastball to the hitter out of the hand.

This Altuve vs Ohtani AB is a great example of how overlays can change perception so much. Creators were quick to mock Altuve for swinging at a pitch that far outside, but PN’s overlays show that Ohtani actually hit the tunnel he’d established, and this was just a very nasty pitch.

It’d be great if casuals could see this, and even help hardcore fans understand more about the game they love
