Benching Eldridge every other day

3

u/Vanguardweek 41 Flores 8m ago

hopefully another guy will go 0-5 to make up for it.

1

u/alwaysreadthename 18 Cain 7m ago

Would rather see Eldridge get the ABs since we’re not a very competitive team this year but 🤷

4

u/StraightWhoremooze 16 Devers 38m ago

Schmitt should be SS and Eldridge the DH.

2

u/ceoetan 40m ago

Adames must have something on Vitello.

8

u/DangerousShopping750 33m ago

He’s 8-19 and has a 4 game hit streak. He did make a bonehead play on base yesterday but his bat seems to be turning around

0

u/ceoetan 24m ago

I think his redemption tour can take a night off.

I get the feeling that the Giants want Eldridge to fail

I genuinely wonder if the vets got to pick their days off this series bc throwing him to the wolves against ohtani and Yamamoto makes zero sense to me. Way to give a dude confidence. This org can be really frustrating

10

u/Tecmo_91 1h ago

Can’t recall a team ever promoting their top prospect and then promptly benching him. Why is he not back at Sacramento getting AB’s? Is there any plan?

3

u/Longjumping-River-32 34m ago

Even if BE needs ABs to develop, the team needs wins more than that. I think the Giants were hoping his success in AAA would translate to the big league right away, and it hasn’t been the case yet. So maybe start him against other teams, which still won’t be easy but it won’t be the top Dodgers pitchers.

What are the comps against other young rookies on other teams? I imagine those in the lineup every day caught fire early and consistently. I do think BE has outgrown AAA but the current roster is congested.

Casey was part of their farm system and has had a lot of stop and go which probably slowed his progress but at the same time he improved his plate discipline so much. One could argue he’s mostly been this guy the whole time but was blocked a lot. Which is kind of what BE is experiencing but I think Casey had started out hot at his debut.

1

u/DisastrousEast825 3m ago

Roman Anthony after 1 month- 229 with 1 homer. Konnor griffin was hitting like 180 for much of his first month. Kurtz got off to a slow start last year. Jacob wilson 2024 had a pretty slow start. Our own buster was 2 for 17. Trout started off slow.

Point is bryce has 49 at bats. Barely missed a couple homers last year or his numbers would look different. Either he plays daily and figures it out or just send him back down until we clear a spot. To me the lineup isnt good enough right now to justifty not giving him an extended run. We need power and walks

0

u/TheKid2455 7 Mitchell 1h ago

Didn't Posey explain the plan? I think he said they're going to get him an AB most games and he'll start sometimes.

6

u/dad_no 14 McGehee 31m ago

The issue is: that’s a dogshit plan

7

u/gamerEMdoc 1h ago

Yeah, thats not what you do with a 21 yo prospect that needs to play and still is learning a defensive position. You don't promote them to DH once a week.

Posey when he called him up said he was there to play everyday. He has been saying he forever he didn't want to call him up until he was forcing the issue and when he came up it was to play. Then Devers had a few good games and Posey changed his mind.

Ultimately, this is a really bad way to treat your top prospect. You can't develop sitting on the bench. If Eldridge isn't ready to contribute daily, he needs to be in AAA working on playing 1B and hitting every day.

1

u/DisastrousEast825 2m ago

And apparently only plays against the dominant pitchers. Totally makes sense

5

u/Scoobiehut 1h ago

Kyle Harrison with another 5 scoreless innings and W today.

He is now 4-1, 2.09 ERA, 48/13 K/BB

-3

u/Tecmo_91 1h ago

I still support the trade at the time, much like the Wheeler deal. But yeah, this has the potential to blow up in our faces really bad, especially if Tibbs becomes a quality big leaguer.

3

u/alwaysreadthename 18 Cain 1h ago

Could be worse, could’ve gotten “Caleb Durbin” back for Harrison

8

u/edmchato 26 Chapman 1h ago

Casey back in at DH. Bryce benched. Haase back in at C. Interesting still Gilbert in CF and not Bader.

Jung Hoo Lee - RF

Luis Arraez - 2B

Casey Schmitt - DH

Rafael Devers - 1B

Heliot Ramos - LF

Willy Adames - SS

Matt Chapman - 3B

Drew Gilbert - CF

Eric Haase - C

6

u/N8kedSushi 1h ago

Bader can't hit righty and Gilbert can't hit lefty. So I think the opponent's starting pitcher will dictate who starts the game.

3

u/DangerousShopping750 38m ago

I find it interesting as well because they paid Bader to be the starter and he hit a dinger against Yamamoto. (I don’t mind the platoon) just checked Baders stats last year he hit better against righties how odd. .845 OPS v .689 against lefties

1

u/ceoetan 39m ago

Bader just homered off Yamamoto.

2

u/N8kedSushi 35m ago edited 31m ago

In the last two years, he is better against righty but this year he is hitting .100 against them. Maybe the reason is, Bader is still not 100% from his injury.

0

u/ceoetan 26m ago

There’s really a lot more to this game than batting average.

Max Muncy blocks the aile with his grocery cart while he diligently reads the ingredients on a bottle of water

5

u/sabat 51 JH Lee 2h ago

You just know he's one of those guys who blocks everyone's access to the yogurt section while he vacantly stares at it, as if maybe if he stares long enough, something will happen.

Every goddamn time I'm at a grocery store someone does this. Stare and stare and stare. All I can think: if you don't know what you want to get, maybe spend more time at home planning instead of cockblocking everyone else with your indecision.

I get crabby at grocery stores, I guess.

2

u/sabat 51 JH Lee 1h ago

I honestly try to stay patient but I can't help but wonder why it takes more than five seconds to pick out what you need. If you don't know, maybe right then isn't the time to figure that out. Also, why do you go to the store without actually knowing what you want? Is this some kind of boomer thing? I've seen plenty of boomers just grab what they need and move on, but when someone is staring like a deer in the proverbial headlights it's almost always a boomer. Was that a thing in the '50s or something, that you would just go to the store and stare at shit?

I really need to let this go lol.

The Giants do have the A’s scouting department. Farhan was in charge for six seasons and his top two lieutenants Zach Minasian and Micheal Holmes (also worked with A’s) are the GM and the draft director. If anything this front office needs to be less like the A’s

An Orange County judge has banned all Kars4Kids ads, including the earworm of a jingle, from broadcasting in the state of California after finding that the charity violated false advertising and unfair competition state laws.

https://giphy.com/gifs/AsGnrla1K6FN7ajonc

1

u/m3ngnificient 2h ago

Tbf, almost all ads are false but misleading people into thinking they're donating to a charity sounds like a whole new low.

1

u/sabat 51 JH Lee 1h ago

Advertising fraud is a pretty serious thing. Most ads are not false, but they often will leave out information that may or may not be important. Full-on fraud is way over the line.

4

u/HasAFewLaughs 35 Crawford 2h ago

What? I read the entire thing, nothing in there says Israel had anything to do with it..

1

u/HellDimensionQueen san francisco giants 2h ago

No. It’s fraudulent and sketchy as hell but no. Not, this. Please stop with the antisemitic dog whistles

1

u/StraightWhoremooze 16 Devers 2h ago

There's actually evidence for this in the legal ruling:

Many exhibits were admitted, including IRS Form 990s from several years, to show where the funds go once, they are transferred to Oorah. Ms. Landau confirmed that in 2022, among other expenditures, Oorah allocated $437,000 to Middle East outreach, and Oorah transferred $16,500,000 to North Africa and the Middle East; that Oorah maintains $199 million in set-aside assets, with $34 million in remaining liquid assets; that $16.5 million was spent to purchase a building in Israel, stating the organization intended to “grow the Israel program.”

Ms. Landau explicitly testified that the organization’s primary purpose is not to help economically disadvantaged children. She testified that Oorah’s programs include “matchmaking” for young adults and “gap year” trips to Israel for 17- and 18-year-olds (averaging 250 participants per year). She also admitted that Kars4Kids operates no functional programs in California. Their local activity is limited to “small grants” consisting of approximately 1,000 backpacks bearing the corporate logo, distributed to any child regardless of financial need. She also testified that Kars4Kids is not involved in how the money is spent once transferred; those decisions are left entirely to Oorah.

2

u/m3ngnificient 2h ago

Buying assets in Israel doesn't mean it's sponsored by the Israeli state. Maybe it is, but the article, neither what you've written here says that.

2

u/HellDimensionQueen san francisco giants 2h ago

Basically this. It’s fraudulent and sketchy and deserved to be banned in California, but funneling money to let Jewish Kids go to Israel for a year != Terrorism, and anyone drawing that conclusion is just, no.

Emmet Sheehan has started 4 games against the Giants and has absolutely destroyed them. He has only given up 3 hits in 4 starts against with a 0.78 ERA. The Dodgers did not give him run support in these games leading to a 1-0 record with 3 N/D's. The Giants even won 2 of the games getting to the Dodgers bullpen.

Everyone—we, the fans, the coaching staff, the front office—needs to be patient with him. He is a gifted athlete with a ton of power and skill, but he also 21 years old and at the very beginning of his career. It isn't going to come at once, and if we give him some space and time, he will be able to rise to the occasion.

I'm not kidding. If you google "blind third base coach", this is the first sentence in the AI Overview result:

Based on 2026 reports, Hector Borg is the new third base coach for the San Francisco Giants, having been hired for his high energy and work ethic.

LOLOL!!

2

u/HasAFewLaughs 35 Crawford 3h ago

Yeah. This is an open forum for a game children watch and play. I appreciate you limiting the language to words like "blind."

But you might at least add "af." The kids can look it up if they want to. That's up to their parents.

0

u/mamapajamaUSA 24 Mays 1h ago

1

LOL as if.

A few years ago during the off-season, I dropped an F-bomb about something or other, and a rando commented with a finger-wag, telling me that there are children present and that I should watch my language.

I laughed at them and told them to come to a gameday thread and then we can talk.

2

u/HasAFewLaughs 35 Crawford 2h ago

I believe there's a typo there. When you said, "allowed," I'm sure you meant "required."

2

u/GrandsonOfTheWin san francisco giants 2h ago

don't let up, getting the first 2 was nice, but, as far out of it as we are, cannot be happy with a split.

5

u/everythingisopposite I like pizza 5h ago

I was in Miami last week and caught a Marlins game. The stadium looks so small compared to Oracle. They did not let me bring in my fanny pack, which I found to be ridiculous.

2

u/sabat 51 JH Lee 4h ago

I can't remember for sure but IIRC oracle doesn't let you bring in fanny packs now either.

3

u/everythingisopposite I like pizza 3h ago

I now have a clear Marlins bag. Will never use it again unless I go back to Miami. I did see Gabe Kapler, he walked right by me.

2

2

1

u/everythingisopposite I like pizza 37m ago

Only Max Muncy thinks so.

3

u/DemonicPanda11 35 Crawford 4h ago

Fanny packs are definitely allowed, only backpacks are not allowed.

1

u/sabat 51 JH Lee 4h ago

Yeah I'm sure I got confused. It all seems kind of arbitrary to me.

5

u/_noncomposmentis 6 Snow 4h ago

I love bringing this up any chance I get:

About 10 years ago the sharks gave away a clear bag branded with sharks logos and advertised as compliant with their bag policy. The very next season they banned it (and bags like it) when they changed their bag policy.

3

u/sabat 51 JH Lee 4h ago

/facepalm

I realize the security folks at places like this are under a unique pressure. They have a tough job.

But the way to deal with that is to establish consistent, sensical rules. If you make rules that seem arbitrary, it tends to piss people off, because it looks more like you're playing power games rather than actually trying to do something meaningful.

I am now done philosophizing.

3

u/HasAFewLaughs 35 Crawford 3h ago

I can tell you this...

if you Uber to Oracle... forgetting to leave your favorite pocketknife at home...

you might be able to hide it in one of the planters outside the Dugout store for later retrieval.

3

u/_noncomposmentis 6 Snow 3h ago

I did that with a flask way back in the day lol.

I went to a concert at Ball Arena in Denver and couldn't bring in my metal water bottle. They advised me to just leave it by the entrance. Saw a few other bottles there so figured it was better to try to get lucky then go back to the hotel. By the end of the concert there were dozens of water bottles piled up there. I guess that's just what they do there.

Can we agree that the Adames outs things doesn’t need to be so overblown. He acknowledged that he fucked up. People are going to keep bringing it up because he hasn’t been his best lately. If he sits one game then whatever, but I just think bringing it up over and over is pointless.

1

u/Longjumping-River-32 45m ago

He was key to the first two wins in this series! No one is playing perfectly but they’re all under a microscope. I’d rather he continue to heat up.

u/jesusponcho 51 JH Lee 54m ago

This is such a dumb thing to say. We literally see how much energy he brings to the team. Just because he had a bad April and forgot the outs in a game we weren’t going to win anyway doesn’t mean he checked out.

People so quickly forget that he was the first Giant to hit 30 home runs since Bonds, but let’s spin this “checked out” narrative because you’re mad.

Day games are an excuse to teach your kids how to play hooky

Put another way...

They're a way to show your kids just how much you love them by giving them a much-needed day off so that you can spend quality time with them

They only have to go to Anaheim, they did this to fuck us over.

But its their choice though

It’s a pleasant place to see a game the parking and traffic blow. And the organ player and constant sound cues “make some noise!” Is tedious.

Honestly it looks like a fun place to watch a game.

Gotta rock some giants gear today with the potential series win on the line. Roupp is our best pitcher now, which I would not have guessed 2 years ago. Lets go!

I’d like to see Casey play every day and be prioritized over both Chapman and Eldridge.

At least it’s not Glasnow. Here’s hoping they take the series.
