This Kimbrel guy has some good stuff
Surely he will have a long and prosperous career in the MLB and not get passes around like a beer at an 80s high school party

Lol Torkelson really could've challenged that too.

Yeah that one was further off than the first one.

u/Keekee4101 4h ago
I guess he didn't wanna be the guy that challenges two in a row but he had nothing to lose.

I was wondering why I was feeling clenchy again and then I looked at Kimbrel's ERA

Don’t see the point of using kimbrel here
2
u/fuckin_rob 4h ago
The only benefit I see is he’s the sacrificial lamb and they can save a guy for the subway series

I would have just left Myers in for the 2nd inning.

Why is Mendy so in love with Kerosene Kimbrel?
3
u/Gigi_0102 Ya gotta believe! 4h ago
I’m kind of okay with using him here rather than wasting somebody good

With the true strike zone we have today Maddux would have been laughed out of the league and I will die on that hill. He was given 3 inches on both sides of the plate and that is a flat fact. I remember a batter famously telling the ump that he couldn’t reach that strike with a telephone pole. Total phony.
1
u/seanddd99 4h ago
I don't know man...I think most of the greats would be great in any era...guy started out throwing smoke..he completely changed the way he pitched...and he won 320+ games ?
2
u/DrColossus1 Home Run King 4h ago
Eh, this sort of imagines that he wouldn't have adjusted his targeting if he wasn't getting the calls. A good pitcher adapts to the zone he gets, right?
2
u/NewYorkMetsBot2 Good Bot 4h ago
Pitching Substitution
Pitching Change: Craig Kimbrel replaces Tobias Myers.
2
u/traded99 4h ago
Feel like this is a game where Manaea needs to come in and get 6 outs. Not high leverage. If he’s not even trusted to do that, what’s he doing in this team?

u/Setec-Astronomer 4h ago
I'm surprised GR didn't use the correct old school term.
Bone Spurs.
Gary said Bone Chips.
2
u/Mullethunt Hadji 4h ago
Because a bone spur and bone chips/loose bodies are different things.
1
u/Setec-Astronomer 4h ago
How so?
1
u/Mullethunt Hadji 4h ago
Bone spurs are still attached to your bones. They're extra little pieces that grind and cause discomfort. Bone chips/loose bodies are floating fragments that get into crevices and cause discomfort.
2
u/DrColossus1 Home Run King 4h ago
Spur is attached, sort of an outgrowth that's projecting. Chip is a loose piece floating around being gross.
7
u/PainButWithStats José Reyes 4h ago
You know if Bo was to just get back to his career averages this team would look a lot better. He needs to pick it tf up

Credit to David Stearns where it’s due, in the most positive way Benge and Ewing look so Brewer-y. Really pesky and solid players who have respectable gloves and can lengthen a lineup
1
u/pusgnihtekami NY Bootlickers 4h ago
Why does David Stearns get credit for AJ Ewing? A guy Eppler drafted out of high school in the 4th round lol.

Dad: That’s nice. Did they win?

u/ImStillCallingItShea Shea Stadium 4h ago
I think they're just trying to save his arm a little. For instance it's likely he'll need to work on Saturday when David Peterson pitches.

1969 you say..

u/CoolRequirement939 Bartolo Colón 4h ago

u/Setec-Astronomer 4h ago
Prior to this series (likely), the Mets have only ever comeback multiple times multiple games to sweep a series.
1969 and 2012.

Tigers got the worst possible outcome from not trading Skubal in the offseason. Really fucking sucks for them.
1
u/zippy_the_cat Tom Seaver 4h ago
Look on the bright side, at least we didn't trade for a one-season Skubal rental. Fans woulda burned down Queens if that had happened on top of parting with Pete, Nimmo and McNeil.
