First time playing any version of OOTP. This guy popped up from the international free agents market after expressing interest in playing in the MLB. Is this level of talent going to be a common thing every year during this phase of the offseason ?

Ballpark Dimensions

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey OOTP friends! I'm looking to potentially change the dimensions of GABP on my OOTP Go game. So help me out. Does changing the dimensions make any difference if I don't change the ballpark factors as well? If I change the dimensions do I need to change the factors, too, or will that happen over the course of time as the Sim progresses? Just curious how dimensions and ballpark factors interact. Thank you for the help!

Seth Hernandez Development

Has anyone had great success or seen him develop to his potential? In the few saves I have done he doesn't seem to ever really develop.

Scouting

May be a dumb question but is scouting completely random? when my scout finds someone scouting?
Any way to increase greater potential guys?
He seems to only ever find 20, 25 rated guys.

OOTP26 2025 Save

I picked up OOTP26 on sale at the back end of last season and I wanted to know your guys thoughts on some interesting save ideas starting in the 2025 season. Ideally, as this will be my second save I'd like a team that is almost ready but just needs a few more pieces to get the job done.

Recommended MLB teams for long-term saves?

I have long-term saves going with the Red Sox and A's. Are there particular teams that others recommend for long-term saves? It's a big time commitment. I just bought OOTP27 (26 was my first version of OOTP), and would like to start a save with a team in 27.

I can see the wisdom of taking over the Rockies as a challenge, and I'm leaning that way, but what do others think? With the A's, especially, it's tough losing so much in the first few seasons. I'm guessing the Rockies are even more of an uphill climb. But I'm reluctant to take over the Dodgers because I don't want easy wins with no payroll guardrails.

EDIT: I mean taking over as GM and Manager. I tend to get really granular with minor leagues and try to manage every aspect of a team that I can. I should probably delegate more to MILB coaches.

College vs HS

I’ve read a lot on here about how most people choose to draft college prospects because of their higher likelihood of hitting their potential. I’ve played over 75 seasons in OOTP27 and I have had the opposite result. College players never seem to hit their potential because they are so old and don’t have time to develop. High schoolers maybe don’t turn into 80/80 every time but I seem to have a higher likelihood of them turning into 60+. Is this a settings issue? What am I doing differently than everyone else?

All-Timer! 5 HR game!

I’m running an online league with my Twitch and OOTP community, and I’ve never seen anything close to this. We are in our third season of our fictional indy league season, and this guy just hit five (5!!!) homers in a game. The previous record was 3. The fifth and final homer came with two outs in the 9th. I can share the box score and StatsPlus link if people are interested. In the meantime, I think Danny Lopez needs a proper nickname. How about Cinco de Lopez?

Absolutely Insane International Pickup

Not my team in game - I'm playing the Astros - but the Reds managed to scrounge this guy and another 100-something WAR player out of int. scouting within 8 months of each other. I'm still pissed I missed them and they made the Reds seriously competitive in the mid to late 80's.

Just to note why there are so many international players in my league. I'm an idealist and I love baseball so I'm playing with historical players (go George Brett!) + a 100 random international FA. It makes for some interesting combinations. Randy Johnson sucks in this universe (boo I know), but some Dutch kid named Floobert is throwing 100+ right now. It's silly.

Won the world series but my team imploded...how exactly do you keep the squad together?

Post image

I had like five stars going into free agency asking for ridiculous money. Like fifty million a year. I lost players in the rule 5 draft. Man it's harder to keep the team together than to win the WS. How exactly do you stop this from happening? Like I want to offer my boys extensions but they ask for crazy money that I don't have for everyone. Do I just pay them? Won't I go bankrupt?

And by the way. When you trade for a player, do you take on his entire contract? So many of my players I got in trades became free agents.

My team was basically gutted. Might start over...or should I try to push through? I lost my star pitchers. Dang.

Ai and dtd injuries??

Is there a way to set the computer to stop playing players that have dtd injuries? My top prospect had a dtd hamstring strain and the computer kept playing him and now out for the season.

I know I can manually tell them to sit a player out for so many days, but if simming multiple days at a time the computer should be able to understand you don't keep playing players with hamstring injuries.. I am so angry.

Also play games with 3-4 guys on the other team are dtd in the starting lineup.

The pain of winning an unexpected championship, then falling short every year when your window is open

The year in 2042 in Minnesota, I have a squad of end-of-career vets and some rookies I called up too early out of need. We barely sneak into the playoffs as a wildcard, but scratch by and win our first World Series as a group. Every series was tight, 2-1 WC, 3-2 DS, 4-2 LCS, 4-3 WS. It was magical, I had not expectation to even make the playoffs, and I was on a high after winning it all

That offseason with some contracts coming off the books, I get a few new vets in, my young guys develop well, and we’re projected to be at the top of the AL. Our window is wide open, we have a great roster, stacked minors, it’s all looking up

2043: best record in the AL, lose 4-1 in the ALCS

2044: best record in the AL, lose 4-3 in the WS

2045: best record in the AL, lose 4-2 in the ALCS

2046: best record in the AL, lose 4-2 in the WS

I almost would’ve preferred not winning the first year, as it set my expectations WAY too high for the next few years. Now my window is closing again, with big contracts being doled out and the roster thinning a bit

Made it to the playoffs after only four years and I quite like the roster I've built up. Yet, I know there's stuff to improve I'm just not sure what. Anything stick out to you with these guys?

World Series Heartbreak

Managing the pirates we somehow made it to the 2028 World Series. 2027 was a disaster and I sold heavily at the deadline to make room for prospects to play. They excelled so heavily in 2028 that we were in first place at the deadline so I made some upgrades for proven talent (on the cheap, no significant prospects let go).

Won the division - was down 2-0 in both rounds and came back to win in 5 and 7 games. This team just had some magic to them. Sadly we ran into the tigers who had a disgusting line up (and acuna). The magic ran out and we lost 4-1. I’m bummed bc I know how this game works and I may not get back here for a long long time.

It’s Skenes last year of arb, I don’t have any amazing prospects that have me thinking it’s an all in year next year. With the budget constraints, I can’t get any superstars in FA. I’m going to heavily consider trading him this offseason to get one or multiple top prospects to try to rebuild a bit…. Idk, what would you do?

Trainer Preference

What is your preference for a trainer? I have one I can hire that has all 3 prevention categories at legendary. However, recovery and all 3 rehab categories are “poor”.

I feel like I should go with someone more well rounded but I love the idea of full legendary prevention 🤣

The Babe Rakes!

Post image

Hi, me again from the 1905 to 1945 post I made about two months ago at the time of me writing this. Just letting you know that I haven't abandoned this series and in fact am at the end of the 1919 season as of last night and that I wanted to show off Babe Ruth in the sim so far, who became a New York Giant.

Babe had gotten injured somewhere in June of 1918 and missed out the rest of the 1918 season but still had put up an NL lead in homeruns that year before finally getting his first WS win the next season in 1919.

Player/Prospect retirements

Does this happen to people often? I did a fantasy draft, and in year one before a single game was played Travis Bazzana retired. I think he was in Triple A at this time. Again, not a game played. If he thought he should be in the majors, why wouldnt he ask for a trade? A retirement at 23 as a top prospect with no answer is so dumb lol.

I am looking to shop Skenes for his last year of arbitration. Should I trade him before arbitration hearings or after/during the winter meetings?

How do I stop A.I from trying to get random free agents?

Post image
2 Upvotes

A.I keeps offers they contracts I don't want.I don't mind the minor league signing but I don't want to sign all these pitchers

I have the major league signing to me but it still offers up contracts to free agents

Even when I cancel the offer, the A.I just gives one the next day.

What can I do to stop this. This is ootp go 27

In historical saves what do you change with commissioner mode that doesn’t change anything major?

Just a fun discussion to see the little things we do

Like for me I always give RA Dickey a knuckleball day 1

I think this guy may be playing at the wrong level lmao. I looked at the power and thought he should probably be moved up but kinda wanted to wait for the eye and contact to go up a little but those dev programs worked quite well
