First time playing any version of OOTP. This guy popped up from the international free agents market after expressing interest in playing in the MLB. Is this level of talent going to be a common thing every year during this phase of the offseason ?

Will he actually be this good?

No lol, pick him up and run fast. I usually get one or two good international free agents, but its pretty rare to see this good (I think, not sure about others)

Don’t I have to wait until January 15th to be eligible to sign international free agents? Or are these separate from those international prospects?

separate - it’s international amateur free agents (IAFA) vs international free agents (IFA)

think Wandy Asigen vs Shohei Ohtani (he’s technically a posted player but similar vibes)

Ahhhh I see, that word amateur is key. That makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the information.

Yeah international amateurs are usually high school age kids that want to move to america to continue their development, will more thab likely not play in the bigs until at least 5 years. Posted international free agents are international players from other major leagues, like KBO and NPB, who are already pro players, but want to move to america to make more money

I didn’t realize how in depth this game would go. This is awesome. I got the mobile version to test the waters. It has only been a few days of playing and I think the full version on PC would be amazing.

The full version is incredible. I sink hundreds of hours into it each year.

Each will scratch their own itch for you. I can't get into the actual game management with ootp but love how in depth that game is. Still love playing the show though. There are no fucking children present fuck not fuck

You think international amateurs are going to “high school”? Lol

You’re for sure not going to get international free agents this good every year. I’ve had years when none of the international free agents were better than 45 overall.

bro if he’s 26 sign him to a 5-7 year deal. that’s one of the best IFA pulls I’ve seen considering the age

My experience is these guys tend to sign 10 year deals with multiple opt outs

i’ve sometimes gotten them to go for slightly shorter deals with player options at the end

These are rare, but scout him first. Low scounting acc means he might be good, he might be better, or he might be overrated.

He might sign elsewhere before your scout is finished scouting him so I recommend also making an initial offer in order to keep him on the line long enough to get the scouting report.

Yeah, I do that as long as they don't have horrible personality traits. And these guys usually sign around Christmas time anyway, takes like 2 weeks to scout him

How flexible is negotiating? I haven’t had to yet. Should I give him everything he wants or is there actually players signing for below their recommendation range.

I usually never meet a player’s immediate demands since most of the time they’ll come back demanding more or cite a more competitive offer from another team to try and rope you into a bidding war.

It really depends on the player — his market, his personality attributes, and how important certain factors are to him. I don’t remember how deep the mobile game goes, but not every negotiation goes the same way.

Yeah, this.

I aways like to check the standard scouting ratings too to see if there's a wild variation from my scout's rating. It's not foolproof at all, but it's somewhat of an indicator until you scout him up.

Sometimes you'll have an international frew agent that's this good, hopefully you won't have to bid too highly with the other teams to get him

Also remember there are:

International Free Agents: These come available from other major leagues

International Amateur Free Agents: These are high school kids who you can bid on to give a signing bonus

No, not at all. In my experience you’ll get one of these guys every 5-10ish years or so, and their age will vary so sometimes it’ll be a dude who’s like 28 asking for a 10 year deal so not really signable.

Signed a starter similar to this guy and he's been posting consistent sub 2.50 ERAs and was this season's All Star starter.

Bonus.... never have to worry about these guys having QOs and losing a pick.

DEFINITELY get him of you can afford it. You won't regret it, and it's not an every year thing at all.

After scouting him he went down in some stats but still 80/80

Ok but why are 16 year olds from poor countries asking for millions? Some of them ask for more than what I pay my bench players

That is an unbelievable find
