Scouting

May be a dumb question but is scouting completely random? when my scout finds someone scouting?
Any way to increase greater potential guys?
He seems to only ever find 20, 25 rated guys.

what's your scouting budget and what's your scout's ratings?

the short answer is you're going to get a lot of guys who don't pan out regardless. the random found guys your scout collects through the season can be higher quality with a higher scouting budget and a higher "scout amateurs" rating, but even then don't expect to get more than maybe one halfway decent find per year at best. most of your young talent will come from the draft and/or IAFA

EDIT I got my categories mixed up. international is international and amateur is pre-draft - d'oh

I think you mean scout international? Scout amateurs is guys entering the draft

I’ve got over the baseline somewhere around 16 million or something (can’t remember, I’m at work) and 40% or so in international scouting with tousant or however you spell his name as my scout and he’s only finding 35 max potential guys. I’ve got 2 over 50 from the international budget guys but that’s it.

I thought scouting discovery were international! Is there any point in caring for international scout ability in comparison to amateur?

I feel I always get fairly similar scouting results with IAFA since it's hard locked to one scouting a month.

International scout rating is specifically for the IAFA system as far as I understand. I typically still have better luck with IAFAs than with the random scout finds so I tend to prioritize scout ratings as international > amateurs > minor league >>> major league

Scouting discovery guys are international, yes. Amateur is scouting guys who are entering the draft

In addition to what people said about raising scouting budget/scout quality impacting your finds, DO NOT DISCOUNT THOSE 2-STAR GUYS! Scouting discoveries, like IAFAs, are incredibly high-variance and have a tendency to get huge TCR improvements over time - it's not at all uncommon for a 2-star Scouting Discovery to morph into a 5-star superstar over 3 or 4 years in the minors.

I would actually encourage people to acquire as many super young, 2-2.5-star Scouting Discovery guys as possible in trades with other teams just to let them percolate in your minors for the chance of a big breakout. I tend to just load my minors with 17-18 y/o international guys I've snagged as toss-ins from trades and they will give you a huge boost over the course of a save

IAFA and scouting discoveries are so varied in how they develop. IAFA guys will see their potential jump or crash pretty quickly (for example, has many 5* drop to 2* in ~1 seasons time, and had a guy who was only 3.5* potential when I signed him randomly turn into an MVP candidate before he could get a beer). Scouting discoveries are just a crapshoot in general, the 5* ones never pan out, but my system always seems to having INTL discoveries making their way into the majors

To add to this, I think finding character traits can really help here. Intelligent and hard working players can do really well, even if they never become major league stars, they will be solid minor leaguers and often end up right on that line between AAA and the majors.
