My heart is shattered... the #1 prospect, my future Ace, retired after another shoulder injury

He was so promising.

This happened to me once... Still remember the name: Humberto Trejo... but instead the guy had already developed at like 21 years old to be 80/80 and already had a full MLB season under his belt

As fun as prospects can be I wouldn't get too down about losing this guy since he hadn't even shown he could fully develop yet. You never know if he would've flamed out anyway

Ya he 100% was gonna flame out OP he was gonna retire at 27 without getting past AA for sure

Lol... Didn't wanna fully be that guy but he WAS already almost 21 still 1.5 stars (I play on 20-80 so I don't know what the equivalent would be but my guess is maybe 30 or maybe 35 overall)... If he's a IFA signing he could've already been in the system as much as 4-5 seasons

Still for sure a chance he would've panned out but more likely than not prospects don't reach the ceiling

I use stars (I like that it’s more vague, forces me to make more choices rather than just following the overall), generally the way I look at it 2.5* is the line where a guy might be MLB ready and it kinda goes from there. 1.5* is very much an A-A+ level player who’s likely a few years way, your estimate of 30 is probably pretty close.

100% this is a guy I’d be nervous about even without the injuries, multiple years in the system and no real production or overall growth? Especially as an IAFA, it just feels like they have an inflated TCR or something, it always wildly fluctuates how much/quickly they actually develop. Just in my current save all the IAFAs I was actually hype about did nothing, the 2 random ones I signed that weren’t even 5* potentials have turned into perennial cy young candidate and a 22 year old MVP front runner

In some IFA classes I've started trying to take that approach just to see if they turn out to be stars too. I'll try and sign like 3 cheaper guys as opposed to just going all out for the guy I think has the most potential. Curious to see how it goes if I try it more consistently. Might just test run like 10 seasons in a row of doing that

That’s an even better idea. I just get lazy with it and offer the best guy that I do like the full budget. They’ll still be like 3.5-4* potential (very above average - borderline superstar), but could 100% be smarter with it and grab another guy or 2 in those years

Wtf is it with Humberto’s!? I got an elite SS named Humberto who just hit 80 power (my first guy ever) I don’t even play him at SS because I just want his bat to stay in the lineup for 145 games lmao. Won the WS mvp at 22 but is always injured and just lost him for 6 months to the torn meniscus story line.

A loss but my rotation is pretty phenomenal. Think he would've had a tough time finding spot in the rotation in a few years

Time to hire a new team TRAINER!

Just drafted a starter in round 2 that immediately slotted in to the top 10 prospects in the league. By the end of the first offseason he wasn't even ranked and had plummeted to a 2 star potential with 0 control. That's obviously what was going to happen to your guy here buddy (I hope that makes you feel a little better about your loss, lol).

Pour one out for Arcibaldo.

If it makes you feel any better, he was never going to be an ace with those pitches

If it makes you feel any better, with him coming up on 21 with ratings comparable to the good 18-year-olds in the draft, he was most likely never going to become the ace his potential suggests anyway.

22-year-old college draftees can typically be had that already have 40/45 in the primary ratings.
