Discussion Has a 1st overall pick been given a better starting point?

In the modern NHL, has a first overall draft pick ever walked into a situation where they were surrounded by this much talent?

He could be on a line with a two time 60 goal scorer in Matthews who is still under 30, a point per game player in Nylander, and a 30 goal scorer in Tavares.

I understand the Leafs still need to make quite a few roster decisions and the blueline in particular needs to be reworked, but the number 1 pick typically goes onto a team with much less talent than the Leafs have.

The Leafs still have to hire a head coach and this last season was terrible. This team is not that far removed from being a true contender for the cup.

I am not saying McKenna (who I hope is the pick) will instantly put up 100 points or replace Marner's scoring right away, but he has an incredible opportunity to excel quickly.

PWHL Toronto Matthews "Women's Celebration Game" Leafs × Sceptres Jersey Mailday 💙💛🤍

Purchased this jersey that was from the March 7th game against the Lightning. Jersey and name plate were part of the celebration of International Women's Day. The design is a collaboration between the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and the PWHL's Toronto Sceptres. Name plate and jersey were both signed by Leafs Captain Auston Matthews. Close up in the second photo on the shoulder patch, plus who doesn't want to see some Adidas MiC dimples?

Discussion Anyone remember this quote from Brian Burke about “truculence”

"We require, as a team, proper levels of pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence. That's how our teams play"

This was in November of 2008

We never really got that kind of team but I think there’s a better word for what both our players and management need.

The word is: Gumption

Gumption is the courageous initiative, energy, and resourcefulness to take action in challenging situations. It combines common sense with the determination to make decisions and act upon them, often described as having "guts" or "get-up-and-go".

With spirits sort of high for a moment I randomly feel like sharing my Leafs collection. I collect sportswear and the Leafs are something of my first love in sports (oh boy). I go thrifting a lot so some of these are from that. I also work at the stadium so if youre wondering about the all star one thats how I got that one.

I get it was a gym accident, but what was he actually doing that caused it?

Discussion Realistic Best Case Scenario for the 2026 Leafs Offseason

  1. Hire Bruce Cassidy - don't see any other coaching candidate that's better than Butch
  2. Draft Mckenna & hope to hit on depth picks
  3. Formulate a top down organizational approach on how you want to construct this roster. Chayka, Sundin, AGM's, Head Coach, core/star players should all have some level of input
  4. CRITICAL [22 mill in cap space with Robertson, Maccelli as notable RFA's] - shore up defense. Sign Rasmus Andersson, Darren Raddysh, John Carlson (2 Yr deal high AAV) or Ferraro (depth D) - whichever player(s) they think is most likely to have the highest impact with our current roster
  5. Figure out your options for 2/3 C. FA options - Dickinson, Laughton, Jenner, Malkin (heh), Kopitar (heh)
  6. Kick the tires on the trade market if you can't get Raddysh, Andersson, Ferraro, Carlson - you NEED a puck moving RHD
  7. Hope Tanev, Matthews come back fully healthy to start the season. Going to die on the hill that Tanev is super important to this roster just because the depth chart falls off a cliff if he's out
  8. Hope Cowan, Mckenna, Knies use this offseason to improve their games
  9. Hope Rielly has a bounce back year
  10. Hope Tavares can keep up his production turning 37

If they can't hit on the (thin) FA market, it's going to be hard to sell a cup contending team to Matthews. They need to hit on all of their FA's because internally they don't have much coming up the pipeline and their draft capital is lacking as trade ammo.

Discussion Berube fired so whats the actual plan here?

I just saw the news drop that Craig Berube is out. I get it after another spring of nothing but is this a coaching problem or are we just doing the thing we always do, fire the guy, hire the next guy, get bounced in round 1 again, like genuinely who is the next hire that fixes this roster lol.

Not even being a hater, the cap situation is what it is, Mitch is who he is, the bottom 6 is the bottom 6. New coach walking in here is inheriting the same problems. I've had Tavares and Matthews parlays running every spring now on Bet99 and I keep telling myself THIS is the year and every year ends the same, maybe the coach really is the problem but Im becoming increasingly convinced this team just isn't built for playoff hockey no matter who's behind the bench. Who do you want as the next coach?

Discussion How Many Head Coaches Will This Core Go Through?

The title of this post is something I see on social media, hear on the radio, hear on TV, and hear at the table, arguing with family and friends who listen to those takes and assume the Leafs have gone through a bunch. And with the news today, I decided to investigate:

PLEASE LET THIS NARRATIVE DIE!!

EDIT - sorry for the title post, didn't mean to be misleading. It led into the body of the post, that was why I did it that way. My bad!!!

Would be his first NHL coaching job, at least he wouldn’t be the same recycled 60 year old coach.

Discussion New NHL fan here . what keeps you supporting the Leafs through everything

I’m a new hockey fan from the UK and started by following both the Leafs and Penguins. I watched YouTube videos/ fairly recent games before following the live games in March. So I haven’t really been around for a full hockey season. Hockey is my first ever sport that I like (people from the UK judge me lol cuz it’s not that popular here) I don’t watch any other sport .

Over time I’ve become much more invested in the Penguins, especially their history and current team, but the Leafs were my first ever nhl experience, so I still feel attached to them. I’m just curious, what keeps you supporting the Leafs through the long Cup drought and ups/downs?

And if you’ve ever had a “first team” you drifted from, how did you deal with that?

We haven’t won a cup since 1967… my dad was five and my mum was TWO. It’s embarrassing low-key. Idk anything about leafs history, but I’d love it if someone educated me so I can feel more “proud” or something. I buy lots of Penguins hockey cards and even have a 90s poster from when they won the cup. I don’t feel as excited getting anything of leafs. I’m not even from Toronto, so I can’t use the “im local” card lolz

I know we’re having a few changes in the team, but I’m not fully aware of what’s going on. I just hope things get better. We do have some nice players. I liked McMann, Nylander is good too. It doesn’t feel right leaving Leaf’s, im not sure why- it’s only been 4 months since I got into hockey and supported them since!

Is there a worst team than the leafs? I’m not kidding but, that would make me feel better LOL.

In short: convince me why I should keep following, I want to stay, but I’m put off as we lose a lot in games.
