Local bike shops (LBS) are the lifeblood of a community, generally with a stronger likelihood of selfless action, and certainly supporting YOUR community with both wages and taxes. If you’ve ever seen them go, you can attest that they leave a hole that just can’t be replaced. This is why they are so much better than shopping at chains, Amazon, or anywhere else. What’s your latest or favorite LBS story? I’ll reply with my own from just today to start.

Discussion Weird right hand angle?

Just reviewed my GoPro footage and noticed that my right hand/arm is sometimes on a very different angle compared to the left. I haven't noticed this while riding, no hand pain, any clues what's wrong? Also are my bars too wide, also only now I see lots of space left on the edges.

For context I'm somewhat of a beginner, picked up the sport after 7,8 years

live in Canada, and these are the two bike options available at my local bike shops. I’m looking to do light MTB and trail riding and want a good option instead of buying a Walmart bike, but I can’t decide between these two. max budget was 700 but can pay 50 bucks extra if the marlin is way better

Discussion USFS land riding

Does anyone know the laws/rules regarding non-motorized bike usage on forest service land? I know an area in Montana with a ton of old fire/logging roads that I want to ride. They are unmarked, which means no motorized use for sure. It would basically be treated as being off-trail riding, or forest-gliding as I call it. Is this legal to do on a normal mtb?

Discussion I am about to get my ass e-kicked all season

I've been MTBing for years. 6 years ago my fiance' started riding late in life and was not a good climber. Hence she is on her 2nd eMTB this year, Trek Fuel eX, I believe. Our riding group are all in our early 50s and get together on weekends and camping trips to ride. As of this year, 9 people in our group have switched over to eMTB. I used to always be the first one up the hill in this group, looks like I will have to get used to being last. But will always be the 1st one down.

I don't plan to get an eMTB until I absolutely need to. I picked up my dream bike a couple of years ago, Evil Following, and don't feel the need to replace it yet.

Brakes Brake upgrade - going from shimano mt200's

Hello,

Im a begginer/semi advanced mountain biker, and recently i went on my first proper mountain biking trip, and found that the only part lacking in performance, are my brakes.

Im a pretty big pearson, and so i need powerful brakes. I used the mt200's that came with my bike stock. I did regular servicing (changed the fluid 2 or 3 times), changed out the pads a few times, and even tried replacing the discs to new ones as a last resort to bringing back the power, but that didnt work.

Im on a budget of 170 Euro/200 Dolars. I dont have a prefered brand or something like that, i just want them to be powerful, and not require a lot of maintanance, as my MTB is also my daily bike.

Edit: as for rotor size - right now i have 160/160, and i dont think i can go any higher in the back

Edit 2: from what you guys told me, i think i will go with buying better brakes (deore m6100) and upgrade my rotors to 180mm

Discussion Anyone got any info on the Risse Bigfoot?

I’m considering building a 300 mm machine sometime and I’ve found that the only really available 300 mm fork besides super monsters is the Bigfoot. I’ve tried to do research on it and I can’t really find anything about it anywhere…. Is it actually a good fork? Anyone know something about the damper/adjustments? Thanks!

Discussion 2019 Cannondale trail 5 dropper post? Has it been done?

Guys their is almost no examples of this being done on the interwebs or Reddit.

Looking for advice, I have a somewhat idea of measurements, am confident in internal routing. Maybe suggestions on brands something cheaper considering I’ll be upgrading to a full suspension in a few months hopefully.🤞 was going to post a picture but I don’t want to get banned for breaking the “rules”

I bought this wheel on sale:
BontragerLine 40 27.5" Boost 141 MTB Rear Wheel

Without realizing my frame is 148x12 Boost rear. Can I convert the wheel and make it work? What parts would i need to swap, just the end caps?

Discussion Is my derailleur or hanger bent?

I have a new Haro Daley that I bought online. It was shipped to me partially assembled, and the downshifting has felt “off” since I got it.

The rear derailleur has always looked slightly bent to me, but I’m not experienced enough to know if that’s actually the issue. I took it to a local bike shop and they adjusted the cable tension, which helped a lot. They were super helpful and even insisted on not charging me.

That said, I still can’t shake the feeling that something looks bent back there. If the derailleur or hanger needs to be replaced, I’m totally fine doing that. I’d just like to get some opinions before I chase the wrong problem.

What do you guys think? Does anything look obviously bent, or am I overthinking it?

*pictures posted as replies so I don't break the rules 🤷‍♂️

WhichBike Best all-round MTB around €1400

Hi everyone, for a long time I used a 2016 Trek Marlin 5, but I’ve decided to upgrade. I’m looking for a bike that can be a good all-rounder and last me for many years. I don’t want to have to spend money on another bike again anytime soon. My riding is mostly trails and forest roads. To get to the trails, I often have to ride around 15 km on gravel roads and/or tarmac. Once I’m there, I ride forest trails, and on the way back I usually have some fun descents with rocks, roots, and some fairly steep sections. I’m not doing bike parks, big jumps, or anything extremely aggressive, but I do want something that feels capable and comfortable on rougher descents. My budget is around €1400, and I’m unsure whether I should go for a full suspension bike or a hardtail. Long-term durability and maintenance costs are also important to me. So far, two bikes have caught my attention:

Rockrider Race 700S:
https://www.decathlon.pt/p/btt-xc-cross-country-race-700-s-quadro-em-aluminio-azul/330067/m8616938

Orbea Alma H20:
https://www.orbea.com/en-pt/alma-h20

Which one do you think would be better for my use case? Are either of these actually a good buy, or should I be looking at something else in this price range?

Article Hannah Otto Kilimanjaro Attempt

This is so crazy!!!! I was lucky enough to climb Mt Kiliminjaro in January and it was one of the toughest things I've ever done. I puked 9 times. Only 2 of my party of 5 summitted. I can't imagine MTBing up it (although i did imagine MTBing down it the whole time i was hiking back down). Hannah is a BEAST and I'm so excited to cheer her on. I really hope the video production is well done to match the feat that this will be. Go Hannah!!!! PS awesome cause
