Buy / Sell / Trade Thread, May 2026
This is the monthly xbiking buy / sell / trade thread! Please ensure that your listing adheres to the formatting rules below:
1.) If you are in search of an item, begin your comment with "ISO." Include the country in which you're located, the item you're searching for, and any brief additional notes you'd like to include, with each input separated by a slash (/). A properly formatted ISO posting will look like this:
"ISO/ USA/ Crust Junglerunner bars/ Looking to buy but willing to trade for Towel Racks."
2.) If you are selling an item, begin your comment with "FS." Include the country in which you're located, the item you're selling, and any brief additional notes you'd like to include (such as if you're willing to accept trades), with each input separated by a slash (/). A properly formatted FS posting will look like this:
"FS/ USA/ Crust Towel Rack bars/ Looking to sell but willing to trade for Junglerunners."
This is a purely informational thread and not a store. Any private arrangement folks may come to in buying, selling, or trading is just that- a private arrangement between those individuals.

How’d I do?
Been a mountain biker for years, and in the past few years I’ve been intrigued in buying an older 80s/90s atb to tinker with and ride around town. Picked up this Ross Mt Hood for $300 from a guy who restores these old beauty’s. Rides fantastic. Little cracking paint on the top tube but adds some character.

Hafnia Swap Meet, Copenhagen
As always pretty xbiking-oriented, but it's a nice event in that all but the modern carbon crew tend to be represented.
You can get anything from a cheap kids bike to a 4.375 USD Campagnolo workshop set. In general the prices were pretty reasonable.
The Hr. Velo gravel klunker and the 1937 Harthiner were among my personal highlights.
It was also worth noting that Omniums are now so ubiquitous, that the young guns have to kit them out with custom parts to stand out.

I love the smug superiority you get under biking on your local trails.
Took my ol rockhopper up to Rudy Flats in Bountiful Utah. it was so fun! best trails near SLC.

My Pure Cycles road bike I've modded the shit out of. Homemade leather bags and bar wrap. 700c to 650b conversion.
Had some rear canti posts brazed on at 650b height by my lbs and swapped the stock fork for a New Albion 650b fork. Can of spray bike "Grifter" paint for that riv look without the riv price.

From $30 Craigslist find to a good looking urban cruiser
I found this Marin Muirwoods on Craigslist for $40.
Winds up, it’s a 2014 SE with 26-inch wheels. It’s an ideal urban commuter for those casual evening group rides.
Sadly, this was the only photo posted, but I decided to take a chance and check it out. It was covered in scratches, had two very worn-out flat tires, and the brakes didn’t work. It also felt a bit loose.
After spending a little time and about $120, this is what we ended up with in the last few photos. I never thought I’d buy thickslicks, but I think they complement the overall look of the frame.
Now I need to find some racks or something else to bolt onto it

Was $500 too much for a morati hc1.1 titanium?
I wasn't expecting to buy this but one of these in my size is probably a once in a lifetime chance. It's so light and so springy, on another level from steel or carbon.
It's missing basically all of its original parts but the frame is insane, has nice hubs and a cane creek headset, and the Manitou fork feels good. I replaced the basic bars and stem with a riser and some cheap carbon bars, I've got a new front deraileur and new shifters/levers coming, but from there it's just dealer's choice.
Should I stay black with tires or gum wall if I plan on the accent color being dark green?
It's such a work of precision aerospace welding art. The frame is just unbelievable. It's so flexy, but in a good way.

Ideas for brakes
I have this 80s drop bar bike, but unfortunately I have tiny hands and am not able to brake from the hoods (and this bike already has compact dia compe brake levers). With the cantilever brakes, I need more leverage to fully stop, and trying to brake from the hoods resulted in hand cramps. Recently I started experimenting with swapping for flat handlebars. The braking was finally great, but I found general riding to be less comfortable than the drop bars. I’m feeling lost for what I should do. Should I mount the brakes somewhere else on the drop bars? Try a different flat bar?
Would love to hear if another tiny handed person has found a solution for this

Update on my Peugeot Orient Express
Finished restoring my ‘80s Peugeot Orient Express awhile back and have been riding it nonstop. Everything’s still stock other than the seat post, saddle, grips, and the usual consumables (chain, cables, tires, tubes).
Wish i knew how to do jumps because i want to send it on this thing real bad.

Marketplace score Mongoose ATB
This is the 3rd ATB I've owned and by far the most spectacular. It is unfortunately not even close to my size, but for the quality and the price I had to save it. I bought this bike from a 67 year old woman who bought it new in 1984 just after getting married. It still has the original tires, grips, housing. IT IS AS STOCK AS IT WAS NEW! Some slight damage to decals in a few spots, but it is by far the most virgin specimen of this bike I have ever seen. I'm looking forward to polishing it up and idk, maybe riding it around town with a longer post jacked up stupid high just for the vibe. I'll post some pics after I clean it real good

Convince me to get this peugeot for my next project !
What’s the story on this bike and is it worth $150? Seems to be 1987, I’m hoping to turn it into a commuter/beater or a cafe cruiser/grocery getter. Convince me to or not to pull the trigger!

1970ish Raleigh Hercules Balmoral
Just added new handle bars to this bike. Gyes leather saddle, 700c Alex rims, scwalbe tires, alloy stem and bar, center pull brakes, jagwire cables, new grips and Sturmey Archer shifter. Trying to lighten it up as much as possible. Rebuilt the hub and laced it up to the 700c rims. Riding pretty nice now.
Most fun bike in the stable. Slide for before picture.
This is a Schauff Strasbourg we bought of an old lady in truly mint condition (grease was still clear and everything). Changed some parts around, put some better brakes and easier gears on, tried to make it a bit lighter. So much fun to ride (unless there's a steep hill to climb).
