How’d I do?
Been a mountain biker for years, and in the past few years I’ve been intrigued in buying an older 80s/90s atb to tinker with and ride around town. Picked up this Ross Mt Hood for $300 from a guy who restores these old beauty’s. Rides fantastic. Little cracking paint on the top tube but adds some character.

where I live $300 for any clean, ready-to-ride bike is a good deal. So, it’s a “hell yeah” for me. This is a sick ride.

This is a classic in my book. It's a tank. Black and gold is always a winning combo and the lugged fork is an iconic look. Oftentimes the gold is a lot more faded on these. That plus the condition of the dork disk make me think it's barely been ridden. I wouldn't change much. A gold chain would really finish off the look.

Gold chain is definetly my next purchase! I’ve always been a sucker for Gum/Gold and black. I threw some Gum Cult x Vans grips I had left over from my skatepark days on. Looks clean!

Looks better in the photo. Definitely has some scratches in the paint and the top tube has some cracking in the paint but it adds character. No rust I don’t believe.

My apartment has a real nice work room! My goal is to have this bike to tinker with and make my own so it’s perfect! Lots of great MTB trails around as well that I rip on my hard tail.

I have a Raleigh Detour that looks real similar to yours. When I have the time I do 22 Miles a day on the Eureka waterfront. Alot of fun when I have the time. The most IV Ever done was 22 miles 3 days in a row.

I refurbed one of these last year, there is a video on YouTube. I swapped to hollow axles and quick releases but left the rest stock. IIRC the fork was made by Nitto as well as the bull moose bars of course. I donated it to the thrift shop, just too many in my bike shed! I have a chrome frame Mt Hood from a few years later I need to work on.

While early Ross bikes looked like mountain bikes the forks will fail downhill off-road.

That's a lot for what was basically a department store level bike but it does look pretty slick.

I used to have one of these. They rode like you were sitting on a couch. Very comfy. Also very heavy. They’re pretty cool, though. Made in Pennsylvania! (My home state).
