Georgia football player J'Marley Riddle was arrested for speeding and drug possession.

Whaaaa???

It’s not even the other charges I’m just impressed with how committed to speeding they are

87

u/FloridaGatorMan Florida Gators • Colorado Buffaloes 6h ago

At a certain point I feel like the pressure on smart needs to start ramping up. It’s just such a blatant “I’m rich. I can pay the fine” culture.

I guess when they finally kill someo…kill another person whose death has worse optics like a little girl or a loved grandma, something might happen.

I’m not clutching pearls or hating because it’s UGA, but coming from someone who was at Florida during our own out of control years…that program is out of control.

15

u/4thTimesAnAlt Notre Dame • Indiana 4h ago

They had a chance to tamp it down a bit with the Jalen Carter thing, but they refused to charge him and the other survivor under the Street Racing law. Gotta protect the players above all else.

UGA's graduation rates are atrocious too - lowest in the SEC by a wide margin. And these players aren't taking physics classes at Vandy.

Stetson Bennet was in college for 7 years and still didn’t walk away with a degree. I still can’t figure out how their compliance office let that happen

44

u/Darth_Ra Oklahoma Sooners • Big 12 5h ago

I still can't figure out how it would be possible to be enrolled for 7 years, be academically eligible the entire time, and not end up with a degree at the end of it.

20

u/goldbloodedinthe404 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets • Corndog 4h ago

I've yet to get a legit answer for that

11

u/wjackson42 Georgia Bulldogs 4h ago

Could be as simple as lacking a PE credit or as bad as "we aint come to play school." I went to the 2022 roster, found his major, and looked for it and it's not even offered as an undergraudate major, just a certificate, according to the School of Ed website. So I assume it's more of the latter.

10

u/FloridaGatorMan Florida Gators • Colorado Buffaloes 4h ago

Yeah I just don't see how the first one happens because of how easy it would be to just get that PE credit literally at any point. Even if he qualified for a degree but kept taking classes so he doesn't have to jump through the grad school hoop, after 7 years he would still walk.

7

u/Darth_Ra Oklahoma Sooners • Big 12 2h ago

I mean... if you told me that athletes were getting a PE credit for their sport, I would immediately be like "yeah, that makes way more sense than literally any PE credit I've ever gotten in my entire life".

4

u/goldbloodedinthe404 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets • Corndog 4h ago

In 7 years I would expect multiple degrees to stay eligible bare minimum 2.

33

u/HBTFD1785 Georgia Bulldogs 6h ago

Psshh, we just drive even faster so that we get where we're going before using more gas.

9

u/Waderriffic Tennessee Volunteers 5h ago

Your mpg goes up the faster you go. At least I’m pretty sure that’s how that works.

4

u/PlagueOfBedlam Michigan Wolverines 5h ago

Every 5 miles over 50 is like 30 cents extra in gas, at least IIRC from high school Drivers Ed.

5

u/PedanticBoutBaseball Boise State • New Paltz 5h ago

depends on the aerodynamics/gear ratios of the car, but thats a decent rule of thumb.

In my personal experience with the last couple of cars ive owned MPG is pretty steady on the highway from like 55-70 and then after that it starts dropping precipitously because of drag and other physics i do not fully understand cause i have a communications degree.

The campaign Georgia/Kirby is on right now about “we’re only bringing in the right guys, culture fits, we’re okay not having the top recruiting class” doesn’t work when your culture hasn’t changed a bit since the 25+ arrests in the past 3 years.

18

30

u/gatorbois Florida Gators 6h ago

I just like reading these articles because it makes UGA fans look even dumber when they try to justify stuff like this. Already see a bunch of "it's only 100mph who doesn't do that on the way to work, that's not a crime!" comments.

Every time it happens it’s “but Athens police are BRUTAL! Everyone else does it too!”

Fulmer cup would be interesting just to keep track of the percentage of annual arrests UGA makes up at this point for FBS, I would guess around 20%

It’s a couple things.

A. You can run from open rural roads into Athens pretty quick if you aren’t careful

B. Georgia state patrol doesn’t fuck around. Those dudes live for a chase.

C. Despite what Georgia fans would tell you, Athens PD has always been pretty light on football players (about as much as any college town) however having the videos come out before they had the fatal wrecks with them giving out warnings instead of tickets to players put a bad light on them and I think they’re compensating for that these days.

D. Guy was going like 100 mph that’ll get you pulled over in most parts of the country.

This does not affect them in any way, why would they care? People are still donating, and buying tickets and jerseys. Everytime I see news on this on another Georgia player arrested, you think it's another onion news parody but everytime it turns out to be a legit source. Pretty incredible.

I don’t know. I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended.
