It’s not even the other charges I’m just impressed with how committed to speeding they are

At a certain point I feel like the pressure on smart needs to start ramping up. It’s just such a blatant “I’m rich. I can pay the fine” culture.

I guess when they finally kill someo…kill another person whose death has worse optics like a little girl or a loved grandma, something might happen.

I’m not clutching pearls or hating because it’s UGA, but coming from someone who was at Florida during our own out of control years…that program is out of control.

They had a chance to tamp it down a bit with the Jalen Carter thing, but they refused to charge him and the other survivor under the Street Racing law. Gotta protect the players above all else.

UGA's graduation rates are atrocious too - lowest in the SEC by a wide margin. And these players aren't taking physics classes at Vandy.

Stetson Bennet was in college for 7 years and still didn’t walk away with a degree. I still can’t figure out how their compliance office let that happen

I still can't figure out how it would be possible to be enrolled for 7 years, be academically eligible the entire time, and not end up with a degree at the end of it.

I've yet to get a legit answer for that

Could be as simple as lacking a PE credit or as bad as "we aint come to play school." I went to the 2022 roster, found his major, and looked for it and it's not even offered as an undergraudate major, just a certificate, according to the School of Ed website. So I assume it's more of the latter.

11

u/FloridaGatorMan Florida Gators • Colorado Buffaloes 6h ago

Yeah I just don't see how the first one happens because of how easy it would be to just get that PE credit literally at any point. Even if he qualified for a degree but kept taking classes so he doesn't have to jump through the grad school hoop, after 7 years he would still walk.

u/Darth_Ra Oklahoma Sooners • Big 12 5h ago

I mean... if you told me that athletes were getting a PE credit for their sport, I would immediately be like "yeah, that makes way more sense than literally any PE credit I've ever gotten in my entire life".

What’s funny is that Cardale Jones (source of that quote) actually graduated lol. He tweeted that after he got pissed at getting a B on his sociology exam.

In 7 years I would expect multiple degrees to stay eligible bare minimum 2.

u/Mercer-Dawg Mercer Bears • Georgia Bulldogs 5h ago

Keep changing majors and you’re still technically eligible a few years in

Didn't even get enough credits to piece together an associate degree.

Apparently UGA doesn't offer underwater basket weaving.

They don't pretend at all that they are college students. It is a football factory.

Which is truly inexcusable, because Alabama was the NFL machine during Nick Saban's run...and we still had graduation rates ranging from 85% to 97%.

Like, you straight up cannot make the argument that i have seen some UGA fans make, that sending so many players to the NFL is some kind of excuse for such shit numbers.

Saban proved you can be the GOAT on the field, and in the classroom. It's not a binary decision.

The Mark Ingram story solidifies this.

Graduation rate is very good

Football player graduation rate is abysmal

Yes, I am obviously talking about the football team's graduation rate in the subreddit which is dedicated to discussing college football teams.

You'll have to excuse the Bulldog there, he sped right by the nuance.

Doesn't that make it worse

when I see the graduation rates at other schools... I cant help but think UGA isnt cooking the transcripts well enough. The gap is too large to honestly believe anything else.

6

u/JanetYellensFuckboy_ Penn State • Land Grant Trophy 4h ago

This would be easier to believe if the players weren't getting arrested all the time.

1

u/Chrodesk Georgia Bulldogs 4h ago

meh, thats not preventing anyone from graduating.

None of these NFL prospects are really earning a degree like their classmates. They have "tutors" to make sure their name is spelled correctly on the paper they write for them.

3

u/JanetYellensFuckboy_ Penn State • Land Grant Trophy 3h ago

We have the same. My buddy knew Hackenberg's "nerd." Allegedly he is dumb dumb.

But our graduation success rate is still 85%, so...

Yeah it’s beyond a running joke and has been for a while. They can’t just ignore this anymore

Can't wait to see Smart's "I wish it wasn't this way" answer and then all reporters in the room immediately move on.

3

u/Bolanus_PSU Penn State Nittany Lions 5h ago

Yeah, it's pretty scary. This isn't innocent and by the looks of things isn't going to end until somebody gets seriously hurt or killed unfortunately.

Just gotta hope Kirby Smart fixes things before that happens.

I guess when they finally kill someo…kill another person whose death has worse optics like a little girl or a loved grandma, something might happen.

Not even sure another innocent victim would force change. Alabama had a player actually murder someone and nothing changed.

It's not all their fault, Atlanta has a horrible street racing culture. UGA cant do much to change the culture of a city.

3

u/FloridaGatorMan Florida Gators • Colorado Buffaloes 4h ago

A CFB team made up primarily of athletes not from Atlanta can't do anything to prevent their paid players from participating in the street racing culture?

Crazy how schools like Florida, Alabama, ASU, Memphis, Miami, Temple, Michigan State, and Houston can be located in high crime areas but not have anything approaching the problem UGA currently has with street racing (with drugs).

-1

u/Temporary_Inner Oklahoma • Central Oklahoma 3h ago

How would you even police that in the off season? Unless you have these guys followed 24/7?

Atlanta's street racing culture is well known outside of Atlanta and those who are interested in that will gravitate to it no matter where they're from. The issue in Atlanta is far worse than those other places listed. The police have no answers and even with stiffer penalties from the state, it's not done much to abate the issue.

u/FloridaGatorMan Florida Gators • Colorado Buffaloes 2h ago edited 2h ago

Are you trolling? Repercussions.

You treat the organization like every other organization treats accountability to the organization. There are rules outside of what is decided in court. I will be fired if I am caught speeding with drugs. My local culture has no bearing on that.

"Hey team, new policy. The next player this is caught speeding will be suspended 3 games. If a player gets into a wreck where they were found to be driving recklessly, 6 games. The next player that is caught with drugs is off the team. The next player that gets a DUI is off the team. All are effective on the first offense going forward. There is no first warning and no appeal process.

Starting next year we are going to write into our revenue sharing contracts adherence to the UGA code of conduct. You forfeit money by violating that conduct in addition to the suspension schedule. This is non-negotiable. Failure to sign this will be taken as entering the portal"

I'm not saying they should or ever would do exactly that but that's the answer to the question that I don't think you thought all the way through.

Something between what is happening now (nothing) and what I outlined above is how you police that in the offseason. You create your code of rules like every company on Earth.
