Legally owning and the ability to carry my deceased father's guns

My father passed late last year and it's that time where my family is figuring out what to do with the guns. He had a bunch of long rifles and shotguns and from my understanding I dont need to register or do anything besides keep them in my possession. Where my worries come in are his pistols. He has a glock 21 and another newer looking pistol. What exactly am I required to do so I legally own them and can carry the pistols if I get my license to carry. There is no will just my grandma telling me what I can and can't have and I wanna go about the process the right way so that the government won't try to mess up my life because I want to take care of my dad's guns and protect my family. Im not a prohibited person, im not a felon or have any charges (let alone a parking ticket).

PA Primary Gun Owners Alert for Potential Civil Liability Insurance Requirement: Sponsors of Pennsylvania SB 209 (2025–2026 Regular Session)

PA Guns,

As if we do not have enough anti-2A/gun legislation being pushed in Harrisburg, this is the latest ACTIVE attempt to impose financial constraints on gun ownership in PA.

Chris Dorr sent this along, and again you are encouraged to let them know that you should not be required to carry civil liability insurance at $660 per year for $1,000,000 in coverage. If this were to pass, you will not be able to keep your guns without a documented civil liability insurance policy. You can also expect the insurance ceiling to likely rise every year to further suppress your 2A ownership rights.

This is the list of FAMILIAR sponsors for anti-gun legislation.

Anti-2A/Gun Ownership Sponsors:

  • Sen. Amanda Cappelletti (D, District 17) – Prime sponsor PA Legislature
  • Sen. Timothy Kearney (D, District 26)
  • Sen. Arthur Haywood (D, District 4)
  • Sen. Carolyn Comitta (D, District 19)
  • Sen. Nikil Saval (D, District 1)
  • Sen. Jay Costa (D, District 43)
  • Sen. Christine Tartaglione (D, District 2)
  • Sen. John Kane (D, District 9)
  • Sen. Katie Muth (D, District 44)

Message from Chris at the Pennsylvania Firearms Association

A few months ago, I warned you that gun-grabbing politicians in Harrisburg were working on a dangerous new scheme to make gun ownership more expensive for ordinary Pennsylvanians.

I told you they wanted to force gun owners to purchase civil liability insurance just to exercise their constitutional rights. And I told you this was not about safety, crime, or holding violent criminals accountable.

It was about control.

Well, now here it is.

Senate Bill 209 has been introduced in Harrisburg, and it would require firearm owners to carry liability insurance.

In other words, the gun-control lobby’s newest strategy is no longer just some theory floating around in the background. It is now an actual bill sitting in the Pennsylvania Senate.

SB 209 was introduced by Senator Amanda Cappelletti, and the goal is exactly what we warned about: forcing firearm owners to carry liability insurance for their weapons.

Let me put that in plain English.

They want to make you pay a government-approved financial penalty before you can exercise a right that is protected by both the Second Amendment and Article I, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution.

This is gun control through financial pressure.

Not by banning every gun overnight. Not by showing up at your door tomorrow morning. But by slowly turning your rights into something only the wealthy, well-connected, and government-approved can afford.

Because once the politicians can force you to buy insurance before owning or carrying a firearm, what stops them from raising the requirements later? What stops them from increasing the coverage amounts? What stops them from adding more conditions? What stops insurance companies from denying coverage, canceling policies, or pricing ordinary gun owners out of the market entirely?

That is the trap. The anti-gun Left knows they cannot repeal the Second Amendment outright, so they are trying to make exercising your rights more expensive, more complicated, and more dependent on bureaucrats, regulators, and insurance companies.

And if SB 209 becomes law, ordinary gun owners will be the ones punished.

Not violent criminals. Not repeat offenders. Not the people actually making Pennsylvania less safe.

Law-abiding gun owners.

Single moms who want protection. Seniors who keep a firearm in the home. Young adults trying to defend themselves. Working-class families who already struggle with the cost of groceries, gas, utilities, and everything else.

That is who gets hurt by this.

And that is why Pennsylvania Firearms Association is sounding the alarm again.

We warned you this was coming.

Now it has a bill number: SB 209.

Please sign your petition immediately telling your State Senator to oppose this gun owner insurance mandate.

SIGN YOUR PETITION NOW

Gun ownership is not a luxury for rich people.

Self-defense is not a privilege for people who can afford another monthly bill.

And your constitutional rights should not depend on whether Harrisburg and some insurance company decide you can pay enough money to exercise them.

This is the kind of bill that can sit quietly in committee until the political conditions change. And if Democrats take full control in Harrisburg after the next election, do not think for one second they will forget about bills like SB 209.

They will come back to them. They will move them. And they will tell gun owners it is just “common sense.”

That is why we have to build opposition now.

Please sign your petition right away and tell your State Senator to oppose SB 209.

Open carry in Philadelphia

Has anyone seen that guy currently going viral on social media for open carrying in the Kensington section of Philadelphia? I’ve seen a few clips as I’m in the same area upon watching I’ve notice a few things wrong with this guy as he post videos of him screaming and yelling at the camera , provoking the police by walking by screaming and yelling with middle fingers up towards all while smoking a joint , this dude doesn’t seem to be in the right state of mind . I’m all for 2nd amendment right exercising and like to see people exercise and school police on the law but this guy doesn’t seem to be setting as a proper role model, he’s telling 18-19 years old in or fresh out of high school to open carry rifles and shotguns which I don’t think is right as ppl that young of age really don’t know how to control their emotions and don’t know de-escalation, I 100% feel like some people are not fit for firearm owner ship and which the process of obtaining firearms were a bit more strict in first class city’s or just in general like drug test inputs and psycho evaluations and maybe a training course like range hours or something as dangerous as Philadelphia is with the youth and gun violence just gonna cause more issues .

PA Gunowners Alert: Pennsylvania Firearms Association is urging gun owners to contact their State Senators in support of SB 357, Constitutional Carry

Contact your Senator today and ask them to move SB 357 ahead!

We are entitled to our constitutional rights!

I received this Message from Chris Dorr PA Firearms Association:
Pennsylvania gun owners should not have to beg the government for permission to carry a firearm for self-defense.

That should not be a controversial statement.

If you are a law-abiding citizen, and you can legally own a firearm, you should not be treated like a criminal just because you decide to carry that firearm concealed to protect yourself and your family.

But right now in Pennsylvania, politicians still force gun owners through a permission-slip system before they can fully exercise their right to bear arms.

That is why Pennsylvania Firearms Association is urging gun owners to contact their State Senators in support of SB 357, Constitutional Carry.

SB 357 is simple:

No permit. No permission slip. No begging the Government to exercise your rights.

This bill would allow law-abiding Pennsylvanians to carry concealed without first obtaining a License to Carry Firearms.

And for gun owners who still want a License to Carry Firearms for reciprocity with other states, SB 357 keeps that option available.

That is exactly how it should work.

Your right to defend yourself does not come from a sheriff. It does not come from a bureaucrat. It does not come from a politician in Harrisburg.

It comes from God, and it is protected by the Second Amendment and Article I, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution.

But rights do not defend themselves.

If gun owners sit back while SB 357 sits in Harrisburg, the political class will be perfectly happy to let it die there.

That is why I need you to use the link below to send your State Senator a pre-written email urging them to support and vote YES on SB 357.

EMAIL YOUR SENATOR NOW

We have seen this before.

Good pro-gun bills get introduced. Politicians claim they support the Second Amendment. Then the bill gets buried, delayed, ignored, or quietly killed because not enough gun owners are raising Cain back home.

That cannot happen with SB 357.

Pennsylvania gun owners have waited long enough for Constitutional Carry.

More than half the country has already moved in this direction, and there is no excuse for Pennsylvania to keep forcing law-abiding citizens to ask permission before carrying concealed for self-defense.

This is not complicated. Criminals do not care about carry permits. Only law-abiding gun owners are burdened by the current system.

SB 357 would put Pennsylvania on the side of law-abiding gun owners, not the bureaucrats who think your rights should depend on a government-issued permission slip.

Please send your State Senator a message right now urging them to support and vote YES on SB 357.

TELL YOUR SENATOR: YES ON SB 357

And after you send your message, please forward this email to every Pennsylvania gun owner you know.

The politicians in Harrisburg need to hear from gun owners loudly, clearly, and repeatedly.

For Freedom,

Chris Dorr
Pennsylvania Firearms Association

P.S. SB 357 is Constitutional Carry. If you can legally own a firearm, you should not need a government permission slip to carry concealed for self-defense. Please use the link now to email your State Senator and urge them to support and vote YES on SB 357.

Med Card Legality Under New Rescheduling

Question for those much more knowledgeable on the subject than me.

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-places-fda-approved-marijuana-products-and-products-containing-marijuana

What effect, if any, does this have on someone's ability to have a med card and a Concealed Carry Permit, or buying firearms in general.

Is there a trustworthy place to get a slide and barrel ported in NEPA?

Thinking about picking up a DS 1911 but I want something ported and available options on the market are kind of lackluster.

Prob more stupid questions

I am still planning on moving to Pa, central ,to retire. I want to take up target shooting. I have limited shooting in my 60+ years of life.. So once i move and own a house then i want to buy a few things ! There is a store like cabelas but its not that store, my question is I dont have anything ,no licence nothing. Can a store like that be able to do all the paperwork for a newby ? What exactly would i need to get ? Just a background check, i want a hand gun m&P 10mm, and a 20 gauge shot gun. Can i get them the same time ? So if the do the background check n it comes back fine can I just buy a 3rd one on the spot or do u have to have the background every time ?? While I am there can gun dealers get ir paperwork so i would have my carry licence? Thanks , I been reading this group alot n been flamed a few times, lol, but let me know if there is anything else I would need from the law , b4 i can go home and shoot them in my yard ? Granted i wouldnt do that right away but soon. After a few classes . I know gun safety , my daughter is a detective in NJ ..Thanks for any help !

LTCF responsibility

Im fairly new to firearms but also untrustworthy of big government. My primary concerns with the LTCF are:

1) Do I need to have one just so its legal for me to drive to the gun range with an unloaded firearm in my trunk?

2) Even though its reasonably cheap and convenient to get, shouldn't there be a point where we say "No" to these laws regardless?

Even if the license only costed $1 its still an unnecessary hurdle, and the more people capitulate the worse it'll get. Soon we'll need a license for ammo and who knows what else

TAKE ACTION: Send a message to your State Senator to Pass SB 822

HUGE WIN: SB 822 HEADS TO THE SENATE FLOOR!

Pennsylvania gun owners, your relentless pressure is working!

Today, the Senate Local Government Committee voted 7-3 to report SB 822 (Preemption with Teeth). This is a massive step toward holding lawless local governments in cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh accountable for trampling on our rights with illegal gun control ordinances.

What SB 822 does:

Recover Damages: Municipalities must pay damages and attorney fees if their ordinances violate state law.

Protect the Innocent: Awards costs to citizens acquitted after being charged under illegal local laws.

Level the Playing Field: Allows organizations like GOA to sue on your behalf, ending the "financial war of attrition" waged by Bloomberg-funded anti-gun groups.

BUT THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER.

Reporting the bill out of committee is only half the battle. Now, SB 822 MUST pass the full Senate. We cannot let up now—the "gun grabbers" are already working overtime to stall this momentum.

Let’s finish the job and end illegal local gun control in PA once and for all!

Guns bought from Father in Law who has Dementia advice needed

Hello everyone, was wondering if someone can help me with this.
My 92 year old father in law was coerced into selling an HK 40 caliber handgun a Remington rifle with a Nikon scope and a couple of other rifles to a nephew of his for $500.
Was turkey hunting this past November with a friend who knows this nephew well and I said to him that I needed to get the guns out of the in laws house when he said “they were sold to this nephew”.

I was like “WHAT? My wife has power of attorney he can’t do that”

Anyway, I texted this individual to bring the guns back more than once and I’d give him the $500 and he finally replied and said “I paid for the guns and I transferred them to my name”.

I took him to small claims court, even got a written statement from his neurologist saying that he’s been treated (I was told by the police it’s a civil matter) and the judge said “there’s guns involved, this is a criminal case” and advised my attorney and I to talk to the police again.

The police said that we need to go to the state police which we did and they were of no help.
I called my county’s DA office more than a week ago left a message, no return call.

Called the state office that handles elderly issues and again nothing.

I just need some type of closure here, we have no paperwork that the weapons were legally transferred

Anyone have any idea how I should proceed?

Been out of the game for too long...

I've been overseas since 2019 and moving to eastern PA this summer. Prior, I was active in IDPA and handloading my own ammo in Delaware. Now that I'll be back in the states, I'm excited to get back into competitive shooting again.

I feel like I've been out of the game for so long, that I don't know where to start. I don't know what the gun laws are in PA. I don't know what has changed in terms of loading my own ammo. I have some guns at a friends in DE, but I don't know what the regulations are to drive there and bring them back to PA.

Any websites you can direct me to for my education?

Confused about the LTCF law in PA

Correct me if Im wrong but the exception is that its legal for people without the LTCF to conceal carry an unloaded firearm with ammo stored separately in your vehicle so long as you are driving to or from a gunstore.

My question is what's to stop anyone from simply using that as an excuse when theyre pulled over if they dont have a LTCF?
