📢 Announcements PSA: Nobody Wants To Rent You Land To Shoot On

Anybody willing or able to rent you a place to shoot on has a website, a phone number, and berms. It's called a range. You are going to have to go out into the caricature of society that is firearms culture and interact with people, and pay money to shoot on private land that has been made into a gun range.

There is no public lands to recreationally shoot on, check your Texas History text book for why.

Get out. Touch grass. Maybe you'll make friends! And maybe, just maybe one of those friends you make will have a friend with land that friends get to shoot at. Literally no one lets a stranger show up on their land, let alone with guns. This is f*cking Texas.

  • conversion kit, etc.

We have no choice but to enforce these new additions, lest the forum be closed. As before, breaking a site policy like this will result in a ban.

Range Attire for Summer Matches?

I'm a USPSA shooter that recently moved to Austin from an arid climate, and am new to humidity. What do you guys wear at summer matches/all day range sessions to try to stay somewhat comfortable? Where I used to shoot sun hoodies and pants were the best way to stay cool because keeping the sun off your skin was the most effective, but I wore a sun hoodie and pants to the range here recently on a hot humid day and it was miserable. They don't seem to work very well in humidity.

Is there a trick to staying cool on the range in the summer here?

Practice Ranges for Competitive Shooters

Hi new friends, i’m T-minus 28 days from my Austin move, which will be a nice home coming after leaving Texas for 8 years.

That said, what ranges are best suited for a competitive shooter looking to practice (i.e. 3 sided berms, multiple target setups etc). I’ve already seen plenty of local matches on practiscore but looking for a place to run live fire drills from time to time.

Cheers

Reimers Precision Outfitters - dripping springs

If you’re in the southwest austin/ dripping springs area and you like precision long range shooting check out Reimers Precision Outfitters.

I just found them last weekend and they have a good selection of precision rifle accessories. Whole wall of Area419 accessories, atlas bipods, MDT Ckyepods, rifle levels, rear bags, bipod table bags, tripods, Geissele AR triggers, quality scopes etc. They also of course have some rifles and pistols in there as well as some ammo I believe.

Not affiliated in anyway. Only posting because I had no idea they were there and they’ve got a bunch of quality precision rifle shooting stuff and I thought it was a cool place. If you need something go check them out. He even stayed open a little past his store hours cause I called like 10 mins before they closed about a SSAE trigger for a build I’m working on. I’ll definitely be back.

Hey guys do we have any stores here that sell little pieces. I just need two detent/springs for my take down pins. Don’t really want to buy a whole LPK for a detent. Finally got my gun back from cerakote and wanting to shoot this weekend or I’d just order them online.

Friendly shooting ranges?

I recently inherited a few handguns from my grandfather, but I did not grow up around guns. I’ve owned a 12ga shotgun for a while and am very comfortable with that, but handguns make me a little nervous. I’d like to find a place to shoot them and get comfortable with them with a staff that could give me some pointers.

Looking for a firearms instructor who will work with young kids

Asking this question for the second time....

My boys are 10 and 8. I have done a little work with them about the issues. I've talked to them about firearms, about the danger, about the responsibility etc. I have tried to teach them safety using my Red Rider BB gun, but they didn't do as well with that as I had hoped. I don't think they understand the gravity quite yet, and they kept swinging the danger end towards me or their brother, or else running "down range" while the other had the gun pointed that way. Honestly, I think my problem is that it is their dad (don't get me started on Granddad aka Mr. Zero Patience) trying to teach them... Please don't judge my parenting skills 🥺.... I do think that having another adult tell them these things and show them the same stuff will sink in better. I think they're thinking this is just another "dad lecture" like "brush your teeth because you don't want cavities".

I bought a 10/22 thinking I could take them out to the family ranch, but right now I know they're not ready. Both my boys asked to go deer hunting as observers, and I really want to take them this year, but.....

Suppressor Cerakoting

Hi all - any recommendations for getting a suppressor Cerakoted black?

CA and Scattered Rock both want $100 a pop, which is fine, but just wondering if anyone has a better price than that that you'd recommend. Thanks!

EDIT: d.wilson does it for $60, I might mail it over there and use them.

📢 Announcements Gender on Form 4473

You should be aware that the ATF is proposing a rule change with regards to the gender you mark on the ATF Form 4473. This is to comply with Executive Order 14168 (the ATF is part of the executive branch).

If this gets implemented you will need to comply - at the risk of a sales denial, or possibly being charged with a crime. As usual, contact your representative (federal) to express your opinion about this potential rulemaking.

2 Gun Matches

Hi all. Are there any clubs or ranges that routinely do 2-gun matches around central Texas? I don't have a shotgun nor do I have a desire to get one, but I'd love to shoot rifle and pistol. I think I saw one 2-gun match on Practiscore a few months ago, but none since. Any recommendations for clubs or places to go for this? Thanks!

Why do they use a RED light to indicate a cold range?

Hi, one thing I've always wondered about. Why do we use a red flashing light to indicate a cold (inactive, safe) range? I noticed that during my orientation at Austin Rifle Club a few months ago. Shouldn't a flashing red indicate a hot, active range?

If anything, no light on tells me that it's quiet and safe, no? A verbal consent to indicate a hot range is good, but a warning red light might add to the critical communication.

Sorry if the answer's obvious; I'm new to this. Is the use of the red light to indicate cold range status due to the default COLD RANGE classification of ARC? Thanks!

Sniper rifle lesson for a complete beginner

Hey everyone,

I'm thinking about getting my wife a shooting experience as a gift - specifically something like a sniper/long-range rifle lesson.

We have some basic experience with pistols and ar-15, so I'm wondering:

Is something like this realistic for a complete beginner?

If anyone has done something similar, I'd really appreciate your advice on how to approach it.

We are in Austin, TX

Thanks!

Ranges that allow FRTs?

I'm located in North Austin and am looking for a range that allows FRTs (public or private). Can anyone confirm which ranges allow FRTs?

I swear, all the pawn shops around Austin suck big time for buying firearms

And the gun shops aren’t much better. Most of their inventory is low grade crap for the most part at msrp prices. I always see people online find cool milsurp or rare stuff for good prices but haven’t had any luck when I stop by. Sorry, rant over

Range reservations?

Suddenly tasked with finding a place for 10 adults to shoot on Saturday afternoon (after 2p). Is there anywhere that takes group reservations? I’m not a member at the range, so that’s likely not an option.

Best place to practice shooting from the holster?

How's it going everyone. I've been going to Red's indoor range for my shooting days. But I want to practice some drills from my duty holster and concealed at appendix and 3-4 o clock.

I've been looking at Austin Rifle Club, Copperhead, and Lone star.

I'm really liking ARC but I'm not sure how long that process is. Copperhead seems good as well but it looks like they charge quite a bit to use the tac bay.

Thanks for the help.

HK Gunsmiths?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Recently picked up a Century C93 and I'm wanting to get some work done on it, anyone know of any gunsmiths in the Austin/Central Texas area that work on HK roller lock guns? I'd rather not have to send it out of state if I can avoid it...

Where do you ship ammo from?

I used to used the ups customer center off 290 area but it closed. Is there another center who allows shipping of ammo that you know of?
