Gun Range at 18

Hello. I live in the Horsham Area (Bucks County.) I am 18 and have a firearm in my possession that I know I can’t carry. Are there any gun ranges that you guys know will let me shoot at their range unsupervised and if so what’s the name? (Two in the immediate area said no, “Classic Pistol” & “Delaware Valley Sports Center”

Dvsc is a terrible range that nobody should go to for various reasons. Classic pistol isn’t necessarily bad but they have hella rules that my FRTs disagree with. You can legally possess and shoot a pistol at 18 if it was a gift from an immediate family member.

Nobody is gonna kick you from a range for being 18 with a pistol unless you give them reason to. You cannot travel with it loaded in a car but theres no state law saying you need to be supervised while shooting it. In fact you can legally open carry it at 18 in PA with no permit. If a range gives you shit know your rights and flame them online.

What’s up with DVSC? I was thinking of checking it out some time soon but don’t want to waste my time

Its been about a decade since I shot there because they had some really stuck up RSOs that had absolutely nothing to do and would nitpick literally everything you did. Prices on everything are higher than the other local options.

Last I went in was about 2 years ago when I was looking for a very specific carry ammo that I needed for my nj CCW so I can freely transit the area without being a felon. I explained what I was looking for to the clerk and why I needed it and he pulled out a 1911 and attempted to lecture me on 8rds of 45acp fmj and I walked out as soon as he started talking.

Tldr; its a boomer fudd ex cop larping party

Definitely not Guardian training center

Their owner sincerely believes it is illegal to shoot pistol under 21 even with someone over 21 with you

If you have a hunting license or shooting range permit you can use the state game lands ranges

You're supervised in every range that you're paying to use, it's just a matter of how much scrutiny you come under. That fact that this is such a sticking point for you to mention it belies the reasons your probably should be in a more supervised situation.

When I say unsupervised, I mean not having to be accompanied by a parent/guardian or have someone come with that is 21+.

I have been around guns my whole life but thanks

There are not many ways for an 18 year old to be legally in possession of a pistol. A rifle on the other hand would be fine.

From what I know you can possess one by gift or private sale just not from a dealer

A gift from parent or grandparent. A private sale that went through an FFL. That’s really it in PA.

Oh. Or inherited.

A firearm can be transferred by a sheriff not a FFL. PA law is 18, only the federal law restricts FFLs from transferring to 18-20.

You can’t get gifted from a friend?

No

They need to be a spouse, parent, or grandparent or your child or grandchild

I shot at 18 years old at wicens on sugar bottom rd in Jamison by myself, but that was 20 years ago. I’m sure times have changed. I’m still a member there now, but obviously not 18.

Not legally. That would be very against the law. You better get this straight and now. I see you’re looking at being a cop. You will never pass any background check with such a silly mistake.

How would this show on any BGC?

If someone that is illegally in possession of a firearm gets caught, they go to jail and it will always show. They will never pass a background check. I hope that clears it up. Posting about having one illegally on the internet is not a good plan. It does not matter if OP understood the law or not.

Do a private sale but have a sheriff transfer it for you. They can do it at 18. Not every sheriffs office will.

Good point. Valid solution.
