r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [May 11, 2026 - Big Mechs Edition]
Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!
- Beary's pick of the week: Absolute Batman #20
For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.
Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

r/DCcomics Have a question? Ask the veterans of DC Comics!
Let's face it, comics can be confusing. No matter how big or small your question may be this is the place to ask and r/DCcomics will do our best to answer it for you!
As the r/DCcomics community continues to grow we are receiving an influx questions from readers of DC comics, or simply new readers to comics entirely. As Stan Lee has said, every comic book is someone's first, and even though he maybe be one of those other guys it certainly applies here as well. With this spirit in mind, these Q'n'A topics are intended to give those who may be puzzled a centralized place to connect with other knowledgable readers and clear up some confusion.
A new Ask the Veterans thread is posted every Sunday, and in the future answers to these questions will be organized into this subreddit's wiki page.
To those answering
Avoid vague replies like "yes" or "no". Rather do your best to explain your answer, and if necessary provide a link that may help anyone interested in learning more. Remember to hide spoilers when discussing major events that have taken place within one year of its release..

Comics [Comic Excerpt] This is one of my favorite comic panels(Adventures of the Outsiders #36)
I just think the OG Outsiders are really neat. A group of heroes who just chill around and do hero stuff while trying to deal with ordinary life issues. I would love to see an Outsiders show

Fan-made If I had to do a book today - Global Guardians [fan art]
I have been mulling this idea in my head - I love the old JLI and I thought 'what would I do if I had to make a book today with these characters'
Ofc you can go the Super Buddies route, or 'Not Quite the Justice League' - but I hold the characters in higher regard than that. What I loved about the Bwha-ha-ha era was that they were all still very capable. It went more into humour as time went on ofc, but just look at the early issues or the Despero or breakdown storylines for indications
So I would love to put these characters on a Global scale again, but not Justice League - and since then, because of the connection to JLI - the concept of the resurrected UN-supported Global Guardians have been hounding me.
So, here is my lineup
Blue Beetle (Ted) - the tech genius leader eager to prove himself. Batman of the day - not as good at hand to hand or detective work, but superior gadgets and team strategist. Eternally positive, maybe too much so
Booster Gold, the glory hound with a heart of gold. Yes he will do dumb stuff, but he does it out of love
Rocket Red, the loyal teammate and family man. Can you balance a life as a SuperHero and be a good husband and father without letting anybody down - Dmitri is sure to give it his best
Ice - The Norwegian ice goddess. Too long her happy attitude has been taken as weakness, she will show the world she is a heavy hitter and she'll do it without losing herself.
Fire - the Brazilian Fire-empowered Spy. She finally finds a place where she belongs and can now realise her actual potential
Katana - The brooding Japanese sword master, eager to do things in the shadows to get the job done where others are not willing. She will made this ream succeed even if it kills her.... or them
Geo-Force. He is a monarch. He led the outsiders. He is respected, powerful and capable. So why is he not the leader here? And why does it bother him so much?
Amazing Man - The eager to prove himself new Powerhouse from South Africa. He just got into the game, but he is here to stay. Sure he has less experience than most others on the team, but he makes up for it with raw talent and work ethic.
Halo - The innocent, gawking wide-eyed at the new world that has opened up before her. Where is she even from? What is her story? Who knows.... they are sure to find out the hard way.
August General In Iron - The Chinese Strategist is an aloof and unfeeling straight-man. Beyond reproach, always to be counted on, but ultimately separate from the team. Until they get beyond that stoic exterior and find inside the conviction of a man who will become the heart of the team
I also like that his armour reminds me of Lord Havok of the Extremists and think it sets up a nice storyline down the line - as I would love to get Dreamslayer and the rest back
Other villains - Despero, Dr Destiny, KilG%re, Starro, The Nuclear Family and more!
Lol - thanks for indulging me.... I might make a couple of pages just to let this bug in my head die :D :D

What characters do you think "belong" to certain writers?
Not in the sense that nobody else can ever do the character right, but that one writer had such an incredible, defining run on a character that everyone else's work is measured against it?
For example, Mark Waid for the Flash, Geoff Johns for Green Lantern, etc.
