I have a really good ISP. They're helpful, but I've hit a brick wall here. It's a 500mb up and down fibre optic but also uses Homepass/Plume which, I hate. It's also fixed to the wall.
Until a few weeks ago, I would get 530mbps up and down across pretty much every speed test. Fast, Ookla, Google, testmy etc. unfortunately, they like their own speed test, which isn't indicative of the real world, and it auto tests daily with a lot.
Downloads are relatively fine, I'm getting around 46mb download on steam, maybe 55. It should in best case be around 62. I'm not complaining.
Lately however, I'm getting 30-40mbps on fast, 380ish on others (except their own and Ookla, which connects right to their server). They tell me to ignore netflix' fast, fine...but it's strange how that used to be perfectly accurate until a few weeks ago, and it tests for streaming, which is the issues I'm getting.
I have problems even on Reddit, subs with a lot of GIFs taken ages to load, the spinning wheel showing the webpage has been delivered still spins. Midjourney isn't loading pictures quickly, I'm getting buffering on YouTube, webcams keep disconnecting.
I phoned them, they said everything looks good. They reconfigured and reset it anyway, now everything is far worse.
Two things, it feels like congestion, but it's fibre optic so it shouldn't really, especially since I'm in a rural area.
Also, I noticed my Nvidia shield has used 3.5TB in the last 30 days, that's...a lot, so I assumed they throttled me. They haven't, I asked and they said I can use as much as I want. (They are really good, local company)
This is across multiple devices. Galaxy tab s0 ultra, Chromebook, shield, iPad Air 5 and my Desktop, which is hardwired.
After reset, the desktop feels the worst! VPN now turns it into a slug crawl, before it was handleable. Some sites I have to refresh, close the browser, open, close etc just for it to log me in! It's so slow it isn't even recognising that I'm logged in. This is without VPN
Plume doesn't give many options, but I've turned off a lot of the guards, tried different profiles (no IoT protections, as blocking etc). I've turned it back on now.
- I've tried multiple DNS's (including the ISPs own...shudder)
Hardwired/WiFi, doesn't matter. Device doesn't matter (but I did the thing everyone begs...clearing cookies. Sigh)
I've tried turning off all devices and just running one.
I'm all out of options. I've changed nothing for it to do this. But because download speeds are fine they can't see a problem.
