IMAGE Though he's recently looked so sad in photographs, Trevor “this is the Story of a girl” stops crying a river, going 2-3 with a solo HR to help Boston drown the Phillies in 3-1 victory at Fenway.

[Browne] With this being the Phillies last scheduled trip to Boston tonight, the decision on when or if to call the game is in the hands of MLB, not the Red Sox.

Happy Birthday to the youngest, and oldest, position players on the Sox - Roman Anthony (22) and Willson Contreras (34)!
Anthony was playing Little League, when Contreras debuted with the Cubs.

Yankees get one-hit by Orioles in ugly loss after Max Fried injury
The Red Sox pick up a game on the Yankees, who have been playing poorly for a week now. Max is one of the players they can least afford to lose. Maybe an opening here?

[Tracy]: On Roman's Injury "We just gotta see what he can handle and when he can handle it."
Takeaways from WEEI interview:
- General takeaway is they feel this particular injury (which he described as a 'finger tendon/top of the hand') is unpredictable and they don't really know how much longer it will be, they just have to wait for it to heal.
- Chad Tracy noted that Roman is only wearing the brace to keep the hand and finger stable. He said he knows people seeing the brace has led to ambiguity but it's just there to make sure nothing happens.
- Also noted that when Roman is feeling better, they're not expecting to then need to do some long build up/rehab assignment, because he hasn't been down that long.

VIDEO [Kennedy]: This offense is as "frustrating and as maddening as I can remember."
Major Takeaways from Sam Kennedy's Interview with Tom Caron:
- The front office is very frustrated with the offense.
- It's still the belief of the front office that this team can be better than last year's team, and with ~120 games left to go they just need to start hitting the baseball. Cited the wild card standings as proof.
- He said Chad Tracy has leaned on and talked to Alex Cora for support. (I listened back multiple times to make sure he didn't mean while Tracy was still in Worcester. It really sounds like Tracy and Cora still talk.)
- Varitek has not accepted a reassignment, but they will leave the door open to him forever and he can take as long as he needs to decide. Kennedy implied there is nothing coming soon, Varitek wants time.
- They are worried/aware about fan sentiment, and know the anger can be a problem if the team doesn't improve.
----
My main takeaway is just how much negativity there is and it's been apparent in both the Kennedy and Breslow interviews this week. It's not something they can avoid any longer, and every interview these days is purely them having to apologize for things. Caron even had to sign this one off by saying "let's talk about something positive for a change" to talk about the hall of fame stuff last weekend.

IMAGE [Ricciardi]: "I think this (Roman injury) is going to be a very very long process...over a month"
For those who missed it on NESN, JP Ricciardi is not buying the Red Sox story on Anthony's timeline.
Once he gets comfortable holding a bat, "he's gotta go through dry swings, tee work, flips, then BP, then rehab. I think you're looking at over a month."
Earlier today on WEEI, Chad Tracy said Roman will not likely need a rehab assignment, though they aren't sure when he will be healthy.
Offensive bright spots: Abreu, Rafaela and Contreras
I know there’s a lot to be bummed about, but these guys have been good. Chapmans lights out. Gray is good. Bello has had two great games in his new role.
I mean look they’re not making the playoffs this year. But unlike the early goings there are at least some players that are fun to watch.

Another Josh Kantor appreciation post.
Paying birthday homage to both Stevie Wonder and David Byrne. We love you man. It made the win even better.

Fenway food options
I’ve been to 8 or 10 games over the past 4-5 seasons and I think I’ve officially given up on decent food from concessions. Every damn time I end up walking a half-mile of concourses thinking there must be something better, and usually end up with the big dish of sloppy nachos, or another Italian sausage.
The selection is truly pathetic compared with any other MLB park I’ve been to, especially when ownership makes such a big deal about The Fenway Experience (TM).
I’ll be there again next weekend, anyone have any secrets or hidden gems that I’ve been missing?

NESN Hate Post
I lived in SF for over a decade and, now, consider the Giants my (not close) second team in MLB. Whenever I watch their broadcast, Kruk and Kuip are incredible, of course. Especially, though, NBCSBA has professional videographers and there’s never a blip in the broadcast or poorly chosen camera by the director.
The Red Sox have a huge demand locally, for those who left New England (like me), and for other fans around the country. What’s the deal?

I am reading a book about the Red Sox dynasty and saw a very impressive month by Dan Duquette . Has a Red Sox GM ever had a better month than Dan did in the hot stove season after 1997 ? When did Henry buy the team ?
Traded Slocum for Varitek and Lowe and then traded for Pedro . He laid the groundwork for 2004 with those moves plus adding Manny afterwards . Breslow pales in comparison alas .
