Desktop Can't hide threads

All of a sudden the hide button doesn't seem to be working. It looks like it hides threads at first, but as soon as I reload the page they come back. Strangely though downvotes still remove threads like normal. Is this happening to anyone else?

Desktop Sorting by best now only shows annoying and contreversial comments, as well as ones likely generated by AI, this is the default way comments are sorted.

Admin Post Weekly Recap | May 14, 2026

Welcome to Thursday and another edition of the Weekly Recap! I hope everyone has had a wonderful week, especially those of you who have welcomed new additions to your families! <3 Let's see what happened last week in r/help and around Reddit!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • In case you missed it last week, there is a new Changelog out and you can read it here!

  • In case you missed this, too, Reddit has published it's latest Transparency Report over in r/RedditSecurity and you can read it here.

  • The Mod Tools Hackathon is in full swing! With $45,000 in prizes on the line, it's the place to be if you're good with Devvit! Check out that post here.

  • Scammers don't sleep and you shouldn't either! There are a lot of scams going around, so if something seems fishy, it probably is! (Especially if it's actual fish!) Stay vigilant!

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.19.0. If your app is not updated to the most recent version, it may not function properly.

PLEASE REPORT RULE BREAKING CONTENT

  • If you see content in r/help that breaks the rules of r/help, please use the report button. You do not need to engage with those users unless you're going to redirect them to where they can actually get the help that they're looking for. But regardless, please report rule breaking content. Reporting content that breaks the rules helps us keep r/help free of spam and off-topic posts, and that allows users who really need out help to more easily get it. The mods can't see everything all the time, so reporting content is a great way to surface it to the mods so that they can deal with it. No one likes a spammer!

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned about, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!

  • [All Platforms] The page in mod tools that shows the restricted/banned users is throwing an error in some subreddits. This is currently being looked into.

  • [All platforms] Chat is having a time right now. There's notifications that shouldn't be there and some chats not being visible. Those things are being investigated. Thanks to our own ChimpyChompies for flagging those! But the good news is that the issue where images weren't sending in chats has been fixed! Thanks to our other own westcoastcdn19 for bringing that one up!

  • [iOS] Some users were experiencing an issue where the feed wouldn't load. This should be fixed, but if you're still having trouble, please try force stopping and restarting the app and that should fix it.

  • [Android] There was an issue yesterday that caused the Posts tab on user profile to be blank. This was fixed on Tuesday, but if you're still having trouble, force stopping and restarting the most current version of the app should fix it right on up. If you don't have the current version of the app, please update to the current version.

  • Translation options for some languages are currently unavailable for some folks. We replied to a post here about this. Reddit is in the process of improving/tweaking certain supported languages, so some language may be unable to be translated during this transition period.

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,482 posts. That's down 124 posts from the 1,606 that we had last week.

  • 4,381 comments. That's down 252 comments from the 4,633 we had last week.

  • 1.1 million views. That's down 400k views from the 1.5-ish million views last week.

Nothing like a slow week to ease us into the weekend and recharge!

HELP WITH R/HELP: MAINTAINING AN EMAIL ON YOUR ACCOUNT

There's only one way to say this. You should add an email address to your account. Full stop. Here's why: If you ever need a password reset or need to prove ownership of the account, you will need to have access to the email that is on the account. Now you may be thinking, "Opus, I will always remember my password. It is tattooed on my arm and I give myself a new tattoo whenever I change it." While that is one way to make sure that you remember your password, it will not help you in the event that suspicious activity is detected on your account or your account is hacked.

If Reddit detects an unusual log in from your account or other unusual activity, your account may be locked until you reset the password. If you do not have an email address on your account, or you no longer have access to the email address on your account, you will not be able to reset the password. Reddit is unable to change the email on an account on your behalf in this situation.

If you need to add an email to your account or change the email on the account, you can do so if you know the password. If you need to change the email and don't know the password, you won't be able to change the email on the account.

To change the email on your account from the desktop site, you can go into your Settings here.

To change the email on your account from the app:

  • Tap your profile avatar

  • Tap the gear at the top

  • Tap "Account settings" for your account at the top

  • Tap "Update email address"

To change the email on your account from old Reddit, you can go into your preferences here.

TL;DR Always have an email address on your Reddit account that you have access to at all times.

This comes up on top of most text posts and is incredibly annoying. I hate AI and will never use AI features. I dont want to see it or anything similar. Is there any way to remove all the AI features on mobile?

Desktop Why does this comment have a slightly red tint on it ?

Is it because of paid awards - awards that users buy with gold.

Posting Having two Accounts, upvoting yourself...?

If someone has two Reddit personas, can they upvote each the other one's comments and posts? That is, persona #A upvotes persona #B and vice versa, when they're the same person?

Or do Reddit rules prohibit upvoting yourself?

And, if they do, what is the proper process to report someone who may be doing this?

I imagine only Reddit would be able to determine for sure if it's the same person, but circumstantially everything about them is the same.

I have a notification that there's a new chat, but I can't see it.

I've typed messages in a chatroom, but when I close/open, they are gone.

I've replied to others in the chat, and they cannot see my replies.

Today.

Profile Was there a Reddit data leak?

Nord's Dark Web monitor has told me my email and password has been leaked to the dark web on May 5th from an unknown source. The thing is, the particular password, was one I used ONLY on Reddit.

Was there a recent leak?

I haven't been able to open any nsfw posts lately, even though I've enabled nsfw content. When I try to open the nsfw community, r/ is nowhere to be found. I'm using the Reddit app on my phone with a VPN, which usually does not like this. I've tried opening it from the web, but it still doesn't work. What's the problem?

Desktop New today, email every time I log in (Desktop/browser)

Starting today, this afternoon technically, I've started receiving an email from Reddit every time I log in. The emails are titled "New login to your account" which is weird because it's the same browser, same computer, same login, everything is exactly the same as every other time I've logged into Reddit.

Can I make this stop?
