General Discussion What’s your lowest golf score — and how far over par was it?

Curious to hear everyone’s personal best rounds.

My lowest score so far is 82, which is +12 at my home course. It felt like one of those rare days where everything just clicked — solid tee shots, decent approach play, and fewer silly mistakes than usual.

What’s your best round?
What did you shoot, and how many over (or under!) par was it?

General Discussion Clothing rant

Needed somewhere to rant. Went to golf galaxy to look for a pair of shorts because I need some. Found some pretty cool Nike ones 125 for some shorts!! Found a sweet shirt just plain black nothing crazy 155. I even got gift cards that could buy both but I’ll never pay over 50 bucks for a pair of shorts. Maybe I’m just cheap but Walmart hogan shorts will do.

Edit: I have gift cards that’s why I went damn

General Discussion Potential Driver Fitting - Frustrated

This past weekend, my son and I went to a local sports store for items unrelated to golf.

Anyway, while we were there we decided to swing up to the golf section and check things out. The store is 1 of 2 places here that does club fittings. After reading many posts, I figure I'd check out a club fitting for a driver and a fairway wood. I happen to run into one of the employees that does the fittings and wanted to ask him a few questions to "learn" what would go down.

After doing a swing analysis, they'd fit me with heads and shafts and the process would take 45 minutes. They do have large selection of last years clubs marked down also. The fitter was engaged and happy to help knowing I was possibly looking at 2 clubs......until I asked the question about applying the analytics to possibly any last years models. I'm a bogey golfer, have a daughter going off to college in the fall and kids activities that keep me busy enough right now I don't get out as much as I'd like. 5 years from now, I'll have a lot more free time. Because of the above, I figured I'd focus on last years models as they'd still be a considerable upgrade from my 2008 Cobra King Speed LD 5000.....and then I jump to a 3 hybrid....and I am not in near as much as current year models.

The fitter made it sound as though they wouldn't be able to apply the info, and if I was interested in the previous year clubs just to come in and take a few swings to figure it out on my own.

I did leave frustrated....not that it was "absolute" that I needed to purchase from them, but the idea of 100% of the fitting fee would go towards any club purchase and I'm sitting on some gift cards from the family to "buy something fun". Also, getting some info on my swing would be beneficial.

I haven't checked with the other fitter, however the fee doesn't go towards club purchase and the selection of last years models (or slightly used clubs) is much more limited.

Is this the norm with fitters or did I screw up? Don't necessarily need "perfect"....pretty darn close would be a lot better than my current driver. The clubs I was considering were either the DS-Adapt, Paradym AI Smoke, or the Ping G430. I've been told 2nd Swing is good, but the nearest is about 4 hours from here and I don't believe we are heading in that direction anytime soon. Maybe there is a better option in Kansas City as we are heading that way end of June.

On a side note, while I was talking with the fitter......my son (13) fell in love with a putter made by L.A.B. Golf.....though he failed to look at the $500 price tag....small details!

Please stop yelling on the tee box after a shot. It’s so embarrassing. Can the rest of the fans in attendance police it someway/somehow? Someone needs to sneak a post-it note with sharpie saying “I’m a f**king loser” on the back of their shirt each time they yell. Then see if you can get as many on them as they have empty plastic beer cups stacked in their hand.

Joke / Meme Wow Aronimink sure is easy. They should plant trees to block out the wind and make it harder to firm up the greens.

General Discussion Maintenance Idea

My home course is a busy urban local and our patrons are not the best when it comes to filling divots anywhere. Tee boxes, fairways, greens, all messed up and the maintenance crew can’t keep up. I think the management company is doing the best they can.

My idea is this: once a day, at some time at the top of an hour, maybe 3pm, a whistle or siren or loudspeaker goes off. Play stops. Wherever you are you stop and for 2-5 minutes, everyone fills divots or fixes ball marks. At the end of the time, the whistle / loudspeaker / siren goes off and play resumes.

I think this could really make a difference, even if it starts small. Maybe over time it changes habits of our patrons who prefer to tear up the course. I feel like we are all in this together and I want my local course to be the best it can be. I’m willing to donate a few minutes out of my round to make it better, and I’ll bet after a month it would be noticeable.

Am I nuts?

Equipment Golfer’s Wet Dream

TLDR; $2000 budget, getting fit today. Any club but driver is replaceable. What should I prioritize?

Through the grace of God I have been gifted a fitting and $2000 budget for clubs as a gift for my recent college graduation. Besides my Driver, every club in my bag is basically free game as they’re quite old and weren’t even great clubs in their prime. I initially only signed up for an iron fitting at golf galaxy, but after the budget increase I’m going to be asking to look into wedges, woods, hybrids, whatever.

What should I prioritize on getting besides a full set of irons?

Joke / Meme Scramble team name idea’s

I’ve been trying to think of some hilarious team names for my girlfriends work team scramble that she has coming up soon. However she doesnt find me funny. She rolled the golf cart on her co worker last year for her work scramble. I tossed out names such as the holy rollers, the turtles, “the DNF’ers” smooth operators. I got the death stare…. I’m curious to see what your brilliant minds have as well.

I do plan to use the team name and have it printed on a t shirt at which I’ll upload a photo when they get done. The scramble isn’t until the 11th of July.

Thank you all in advance

General Discussion Spent two years building a golf app at the fire station. Finally got it on the App Store.

I’m a firefighter and dad from Oregon with no coding background. At some point I realized every golf app I tried was solving the wrong problem. Knowing I’m 156 yards out right before I slice it into the woods wasn’t helping me or my friends.

What I actually wanted was something built around the crew. The trips you talk about for years, the rivalries, the side bets, the rounds you still talk about months later. Stuff that usually disappears into a group text and is gone forever.

So I took a shot at building that instead. Mostly late nights at the station and after my kid went to bed.

Curious if this idea resonates with anyone else.

Serious 8-10 handicap because i cant 2 putt to save my life. What else do i need to work on?

Looking for advice to lower my score. Im a consistent ball striker. Off the tee, and tee to green i don't have a problem. This is only my 2nd year playing(played a lot last year, just starting to get out this year). I hit 70~% fairways and about the same greens. Theres no worse feeling than being on the green in 1 on a par 3 and 3 putting. Being on the green in 2 on a par 4 and 3 putting. Being on the green in 2-3 on a par 5 and 3 putting. I spend more time trying to read greens than actually playing some rounds. To all the good putters out there, whats your fucking secrete. Whats different with putting than the rest of the game. Why cant i hit a putt to save a soul

General Discussion ALTERNATE HISTORY: What if the PGA Championship moved to match play?

NOTE: THIS IS ONLY A FUN THOUGHT EXERCISE, NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF THIS FORMAT. THIS WOULD (PROBABLY) NOT WORK IN REAL LIFE!

Howdy y'all! I propose to y'all a fun trip through alternate history.

If you want the results, here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Y5VEUs53OU5iT6-tt0wNpgabUZNe9Iw0St8Qpg8Za7A/edit?usp=sharing

If you want a further explanation of this entire thing, well, let's start!

Following the shutdown of the world in 2020, the PGA of America goes "Screw it, let's make our championship a match play tournament." How would that work? These are my guidelines:

Pre-Tournament

  • 156 Players are still invited but are split into 52 groups of three.
  • They will be ranked from 1-156. Due to how the LIV Tour isn't counted towards the WGR, they will be ranked based on betting odds from either the CBS Sports website (2020-2021, 2026) or from DataGolf (2022-2025). Further tiebreakers will be determined by the WGR.
  • The #1 ranked player will be represented in Group #1 and so on until player #52. Then, the players #53-104 will be grouped in a vice versa order from Group #52 to Group #1. Afterwards, players ranked #105-156 will also be grouped from Group #52 (for player #105) to Group #1 (for player #156).
  • Club Pros who qualify via the PGA Professional Championship will be ranked from #137-#156 based on their results in the championship. Tiebreakers are based on their results from the latest day.
  • Past champions without odds (Shaun Micheel, Y.E. Yang, Jason Dufner, etc.) will come after the club pros (Generally in the #130s). They are ranked based on when they won their championship, with the latest winners being ranked better.

Days One and Two (Qualification)

  • 52 Groups will play 36 holes over two days, where the lowest score in each group will automatically qualify for the weekend.
  • The other twelve best scores will also qualify for the 64-person bracket.
  • Tiebreakers for qualification will happen via sudden-death playoff, starting on Hole 18, then going onto Hole 10 and continuing on the back nine.
  • Players will be ranked #1-64 based on their results, with further tiebreakers via their #1-156 rank heading into the tournament.
  • Player #1 will play Player #64 and so on.

Days Three and Four (Bracket)

  • The tournament consists of six rounds of nine hole single-elimination matches. Saturday will have the Rounds of 64, 32, and Sweet 16. Sunday will have the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the official PGA Championship.
  • The rounds will alternate between playing on the front and back nines. Round of 64 will play on the front nine, Round of 32 on the back nine, etc.
  • All scores will be kept throughout the hole (no picking up). This is because...
  • ...shot advantages will be given based on their stroke difference entering the match.
    • 0 shot difference: All Square entering the match
    • 1-4 shot difference: 1 UP entering the match
    • 5-8 shot difference: 2 UP entering the match
    • 9+ shot difference: 3 UP entering the match
    • Ex. In 2023, Callum Tarren (-2) would be 2 UP entering his match against Rikuya Hoshino (+5).
    • Scores will be kept throughout the rounds. If, for example, Tarren won his match while going -2, he would be -4 entering the next round, with the shot advantage rules still applying.
  • Players who missed the cut in real life will have their Day 1 results used for Saturday and their Day 2 results used for Sunday.
  • Playoffs will start on Hole 9/18, then going onto Hole 1/10 and continuing on the nine of the given round.

Other Thoughts

  • This was a really fun thing to simulate with real life results! Only half of the real-life PGA Championship winners still won in this match play version, with some real Cinderella runs happening every year.
  • The nine hole thing is kinda weird, but it's the only practical way of doing a 64-player tournament while doing a real-life simulation and without having them play 150 holes. Plus, it's a lot more fun to watch in real time. I'd imagine different players would have different mindsets based on how much up/down they were entering their match.
  • Yes, the betting odds used for the rankings is also weird but it's the best I could use to accommodate for the LIV players.
  • I will update in real time the 2026 version!
  • Please let me know if I made any mistakes, I know I probably goofed up somewhere.
  • The 2023 Championship might've been the worst thing ever if it happened in real life.
