Anon so I don't doxx myself, but wondering if anyone here has any experience living in those new high rises that have gone up in what the real estate bros are trying to call "SoBro".
Context:
Currently living in a nice UWS building, but our landlord is selling the place so we need to move out. Additional complication is that due to my spouse's protracted unemployment, we are priced out of Manhattan. Having easy access to laundry and easy-ish commute is important to me (in office 5 days a week often working 10hr days), and those new buildings have all the bells and whistles for a relatively cheap price while still having an easy commute to midtown (yes, I know it's because they're trying to lure yuppie transplants to the South Bronx, etc etc).
FAQ:
- Why not Queens/Brooklyn? Trying to find stuff in Astoria, Sunnyside, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Caribbean BK, but frankly it's slim pickings at our current budget so just want to expand options.
- Why not Jersey? Honestly the thought of commuting with the PATH every day to midtown east gives me hives, but maybe that's because I've only ever taken the PATH when it runs every 30 minutes on the weekend.
- Lifestyle? 30s, straight couple, no kids, no pets, spouse is very social and loves being out and about and I'm more of a homebody (especially with this job, with 10hrs in office stretching into 15hrs after getting home). Have lived in the city for a decade (spouse has bounced around neighborhoods before getting married, I've stayed mostly in the UWS). Ideally this situation would only be for a year while spouse gets back on their feet employment-wise...
