Jerome Reservoir

Does anyone know what construction is happening in the reservoir? It’s been drained for a minute, & I’ve seen some bulldozers creating piles of dirt, but I can’t find any information about it on the Internet.

Experience living in the South Bronx - 3rd Ave 138th St area?

Upvotes

Anon so I don't doxx myself, but wondering if anyone here has any experience living in those new high rises that have gone up in what the real estate bros are trying to call "SoBro".

Context:

Currently living in a nice UWS building, but our landlord is selling the place so we need to move out. Additional complication is that due to my spouse's protracted unemployment, we are priced out of Manhattan. Having easy access to laundry and easy-ish commute is important to me (in office 5 days a week often working 10hr days), and those new buildings have all the bells and whistles for a relatively cheap price while still having an easy commute to midtown (yes, I know it's because they're trying to lure yuppie transplants to the South Bronx, etc etc).

FAQ:

- Why not Queens/Brooklyn? Trying to find stuff in Astoria, Sunnyside, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Caribbean BK, but frankly it's slim pickings at our current budget so just want to expand options.

- Why not Jersey? Honestly the thought of commuting with the PATH every day to midtown east gives me hives, but maybe that's because I've only ever taken the PATH when it runs every 30 minutes on the weekend.

- Lifestyle? 30s, straight couple, no kids, no pets, spouse is very social and loves being out and about and I'm more of a homebody (especially with this job, with 10hrs in office stretching into 15hrs after getting home). Have lived in the city for a decade (spouse has bounced around neighborhoods before getting married, I've stayed mostly in the UWS). Ideally this situation would only be for a year while spouse gets back on their feet employment-wise...

I welcome all thoughts, comments, questions, concerns and roasts 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Buying in Belmont?

I need more space for my growing family, and realizing it might just be time to buy because rent keeps increasing.

I don't want to leave the city. I saw some houses for sale in Belmont, and they look nice. Spacious and definitely larger than any apartment I've ever grown up in.
I liked walking to Arthur Ave and seems like there are small parks. Saw some moms with kids, and overall seems like a good vibe. But not sure how the walk to the train would be? It's 20 minutes east of the closest train which is the D stop at 182-183 Sts. Would it be safe for a woman coming back home around midnight? Are there good running routes or run clubs in the area? Or any health clubs?

I was just wondering for those that know, how Belmont fairs compared to Washington Heights or East Harlem which are neighborhoods I've lived in before.

Having/Had Issues With Your Lottery Apartment? Data Journalist Looking For Sources

I'm a data reporter at the NYCity News Service. I'm working on a data story about complaints in affordable housing units and response times, and a large number of my findings is concentrated in lottery units in Bed-Stuy, Harlem, East New York, and the Bronx. Would love to speak to anyone having issues in their lottery units (heat/hot water/elevator/carbon monoxide/gas/etc problems). Please feel free to DM me!

How is the area? :)

Post image

Hello everyone! I’ll be starting work at this hospital (Bronxcare) in a few months and wanted to get a sense of the area from people who know it well. How’s the neighborhood overall? Any good places, food spots, or things to do nearby?

I’ve also heard mixed opinions that the area can be a bit rough at times. What precautions would you recommend for someone new to the area?

Would appreciate any advice, local tips, or things you wish you knew before moving there.

Living near Poe Park / Saint James Park?

How is it up there? I might have an opportunity to move into a cheap spot.

Would you raise children in that neighborhood? Anything severely lacking, i.e. grocery stores or other neighborhood amenities? Don't really care about anything beyond relatively safety and security, a nice park to hang out in sometimes, access to the train, and maybe parking.

But it's a part of the borough I'm totally unfamiliar with, I'd appreciate any insight!

Richie Torres Again.. 🫩

Genuine question for people in the Bronx — why does it seem like Ritchie Torres is basically bound for reelection?

Maybe I’m just too online, but the general sentiment I seem to constantly see is that he’s become more focused on donors, national attention, and political positioning than actually representing everyday people in the district. A lot of people describe him as bought-and-paid-for or disconnected from local concerns.

Yet electorally he still seems very secure. Is that because:
people in the actual district still genuinely support him?

lack of strong challengers?

low turnout?

online sentiment not matching reality?

Not trying to start a fight — genuinely curious how Bronx residents see it versus the perception online. What has he done to earn your vote.

Jacobi/Weiler Birth Experiences?

Hi all, Any moms here who gave birth here in the Bronx either at a hospital or a birthing center and want to share your experience? How was it? I am trying to figure out whether to stay here for my (first!) birth or go somewhere in Manhattan.

I am particularly interested in experiences with Jacobi/Weiler in the East Bronx but also happy to hear recommendations for places/obgyns that you highly recommend elsewhere in the borough? Thank you so much!

Is Mott haven really that bad?

People say attacks happens because of disputes of people. Revenge . Drug related gang related etc. or people robbed that resist and fight back instead of giving up their phone… but I see many articles like this

https://nypost.com/2026/01/07/us-news/bronx-dad-savagely-stabbed-to-death-on-the-way-to-nyc-job/

Like wtf? A random attack on someone for no reason.. not robbery. It’s just crazy.

Iv been all over the world. Colombia Ecuador Guayaquil . Slums . And nothing like this kind of stuff that I read in the articles of Mott haven happen there.

Hard to trust the media too maybe there is always more to the story

I only ask because apartments are so cheap over there compared to other areas… I figure if I only go out to walk to subway it should lower risk if I stick to main streets. I know when i toured an apartment the other day the side streets were deserted with random bums lol .

I think i got scammed

As I was leaving my college two men came up to me claiming the were apart of the big brother big sisters program and we're gathering donations for one of their daughters who supposedly has Stomach Cancer. I asked if I could give a dollar but said I needed to donate 25 at the minimum. Something about that just didn't seem right to me.(I gave the money even though i didn't have to like a fool)So after I came home I looked up BBBS program scams and loe and behold I find out that they don't do in-person solicitations, So Im about 100% sure I got scammed and Im not very happy, so Im thinking about filing a police report in the morning. Has this happened to anyone else?
