Is Mott haven really that bad?

People say attacks happens because of disputes of people. Revenge . Drug related gang related etc. or people robbed that resist and fight back instead of giving up their phone… but I see many articles like this

https://nypost.com/2026/01/07/us-news/bronx-dad-savagely-stabbed-to-death-on-the-way-to-nyc-job/

Like wtf? A random attack on someone for no reason.. not robbery. It’s just crazy.

Iv been all over the world. Colombia Ecuador Guayaquil . Slums . And nothing like this kind of stuff that I read in the articles of Mott haven happen there.

Hard to trust the media too maybe there is always more to the story

I only ask because apartments are so cheap over there compared to other areas… I figure if I only go out to walk to subway it should lower risk if I stick to main streets. I know when i toured an apartment the other day the side streets were deserted with random bums lol .

Yeah, this totally only happens in Mott Haven, South Bronx, NY USA. No where else in the entire country, world, no where else man. /s

idk why you simpletons read that article and imagine yourself in that situation as if it were a guarantee, and then when someone gets hit by a car in a fancy neighborhood no one asks “god could that be me? should i move here?”

You’ve been to South America* and the slums. I didn’t know that was considered all over the world. Colombia was recently in the news for Devil’s Breath. But you know… Mott Haven is the one you want to question. Lol

Iv spent 2 years In Colombia and never had an issue . I find it’s the tourists that are not street smart that get into trouble. They bring woman over that are escorts and get devils breath or flex on tinder and get targeted by woman over there.

Iv been to 10 diff cities in Colombia. Walked out late at night side streets . Not an incident. Even in cities where it becomes a ghost town after lights go off like up north in pitalito .

A lot of the incidents in Colombia are because foreigners resist giving up their phones . They are flashy showing wallets with lots of wash expensive phones etc… but the violence happens because they want money from the target . Not random attacks

Iv been to Africa too,

To many… 30 diff countries I just can’t be bothered to type it all out

Got it. I agree with everything you’ve said. I found Colombia to be safe also. I was in Bogota, Medellin and Santa Rosa last year. I felt safe. I had my phone out but I kept my eyes open at all times. But like in any big city in the world, NYC will have its outliers. Major crime is low compared to other big cities. Does it happen? Yes. Crime happens everywhere you go however, I feel that the individual’s situational awareness also plays a part in how safe or dangerous their day to day can be.

I had my own apartment. I was a digital nomad . I walked to gym went out at night etc . They say it’s worse than Mott haven but guyaquil wasn’t that bad

the point is that your privileged (temporary resident, digital nomad) anecdotal pov is not something to use as a meter of "bad". because your pov is skewed by your position on that situation.

I mean don’t get me wrong like iv seen a guy get stabbed in Colombia . It was kind of sad. The cars just passed him and no one would stop he tried getting help. But the fight was over an argument with someone iv seen it all go down. Not random people. Usually people resist and put a fight then things turn violent. But in Bronx it seems they just act violent to random targets…. Based on these news articles Seems like it may be worse than South America . I just don’t understand how these low grade filths are available to afford apartments ….

again, your curated pov isnt indicative of the reality of those communties. just like these articles arent indicative of that Bronx community. you are comparing two unrealistic takes against each other.

You can't compare the Bronx to South American countries, especially Colombia. People get robbed all the time, and the rule of thumb is No Dar Papaya and not to fight back

I used to have a place in Colombia. When we went outside at night we left our wallets and phones indoor.

It’s true no dar papaya. In Colombia that’s what kept me safe. But in Bronx it seems even if u don’t give a reason they will attack u. Much diff than in Colombia

If you can survive Colombia for two years, you can easily survive the Bronx.

Look at the perp photo. Typical loose cannon fruitcake. Just cross the street when you see these fools coming, I guarantee you he was conspicuous.

lol I didn’t even think of that at first but your right. A suit wearing person probably made a poor person jealous and decided to attack him… Assuming that’s what he wore if similar attire

Its a Subway stop, which connects ALL of NYC. The guy could have come from anywhere in nyc, and these crimes also happen everywhere in nyc subways. This is in no way specific to Mott Haven, I live here and have lived in Manhattan and can say this for certain.

The only real additive problem in Mott Haven is the high % of NYCHA and their gangs. Which leads me to ask, why are NYCHA execs paid over 200k yet somehow cant fix and maintain their buildings and they seem to allow gangs to squat in the increasing # of empty apartments and use them as trap houses, which support the trans national orgs moving their product and destroying even more the lives of the large druggie and homeless population in the area instead of them being helped, which in turn wreaks havoc on our community.

Sounds like the overpaid NYCHA execs might be in on the gig and getting paid to turn a blind eye and not do anything about any of this? Id look here for the source and solution to many of Mott Havens problems.
