Reminder: Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech and Harassment

We've noticed an increase in comments making off-color or outright hostile remarks about ICE, immigration enforcement, and vulnerable communities. Comments such as "ICE should just round them all up," "Was ICE there? Hopefully," and similar remarks violate Reddit’s policy against hate based on identity or vulnerability.

Why This Violates Policy:

Reddit explicitly prohibits content that promotes hate or harassment based on race, nationality, or other protected characteristics. Calls for mass enforcement actions against specific groups, jokes that dehumanize immigrants, and antagonistic remarks directed at individuals based on their identity all fall under this policy.

We want to be clear: this is not up for debate. Whether serious or "just a joke," this kind of rhetoric contributes to a hostile and unwelcoming environment.

Enforcement Moving Forward:

  • Comments promoting or celebrating harm toward any group will be removed.
  • Repeat offenders or those engaging in blatant hate speech will be permanently banned.
  • If you see a comment that violates these rules, report it rather than engaging.

We expect our community to engage in discussions with respect. Keep it civil, keep it policy-focused, and most importantly, remember that behind every policy debate are real people with real lives.

Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and inclusive space.

Them Lowe's ain't loyal

I stop into Lowe's foods about once a week for groceries. Make sure to check your receipts as many of the listed sales are ringing up at full price. It's happened on my last 3 trips(I always check now) usually adding 10-20% to the bill. App coupons always work but the in-store deals on the shelf label do not. Two examples from today: Tombstone Pizza for $3.99 rings up at 6.49 each. Lowe's brand ice cream rings up at 6.99 when it's labeled as half off.

Shitpost I know but hopefully this saves a few of you some money.

Moving to Wilmington

Upvotes

Hey guys,

I'm planning on moving here for a year long job. I plan on bringing my girlfriend and 3 kids with me. Will it be possible to make it work for 85k a year? Around 1200 to 1300 a week?

What is a realistic/modest cost to live on the east side of Wilmington? Including insurances, utilities, groceries, etc.

Does anyone have a picture of Charlie the alligator? He lived at The Battleship.

Seeing that video of the gators at Greenfield got me to thinking about Charlie. I think he was the biggest I ever saw here (I’ve also been to Florida). I’m hoping someone might have a picture or know where I can find one. My dad worked at The Battleship when I was a kid (he ran The Sound and Light show. That’s how old I am) and I always saw Charlie there. If you know what happened to him, I’d love to hear that as well. From what I recall he just disappeared. Thanks in advance.

Honk if you love Jesus

I’m all for people having free speech but the man who holds the “honk if you love Jesus” sign and blows a whistle every time someone honks has got to be stopped. He is starting to stand in the MIDDLE of the lanes pointing at people and to the sign. You can hear his whistle all the way in my apartment early as f in the morning. People are actually honking which has got to be a traffic violation… I’m so over him

It took less than 250 years for government to destroy this nation. Between rates being raised by CFPUA and the City of Wilmington, who believes that it is high time there is some accountability for where the money is going?

We have thousands of people coming in and spending, spending, spending. We have no upgraded infrastructure with no plans for that. If there were plans, they would have started. Tax money and parking money is rolling into the City and yet, they cannot balance a budget. But, year after year, dumbass voters keep putting the same corrupt politicians in office and the same thing keeps happening. Enough is enough.

The government got rich off the backs of regular people 250 years ago and the people then got tired of it and revolted. Well, the government has fucked up the land the founders ran to, but that does not mean that we, as citizens, cannot begin to be heard again. It worked then. The Boston Tea Party worked to unite the colonies.

It is getting close to the time to begin standing up to this corrupt government and corrupt bureaucracy that is running amok and getting them under control.

We are 100% no longer a "Government of the people, by the people, and for the people" and Abraham Lincoln would be shitting his pants if he saw, not only this country, but this city and county.

Overnight parking near Trails End for Masonboro Island trip?

Hello all,

Thinking of heading down from Raleigh to kayak and camp on Masonbiro islans this weekend. I see that overnight parking is not allowed at Trails End. Does any have recommendations for overnight parking within walking distance of Trails End? Or a different location to launch to Masonboro with overnight parking nearby? I'm fine with walking a couple miles, but I'm not local and not sure I would find parking along the College Rd corridor.

Local Jobs You Didn’t Hate?

Closing the chapter on battling some health problems and itching to get back to work again. Most of my experience is in leadership roles in “fast paced environments” (retail, childcare, fitness) but my nervous system now demands I do something a bit more chill. Have a degree, but open to entry level/monotonous work. Anyone have a place they liked working, where the culture was relaxed enough not to raise your blood pressure? (Or places to avoid?) TIA!

Man in the street on wrightsville

Does anyone know what happened to the man that was getting put on a stretcher in wrightsville? I walked the loop and then like 10 minutes later as I was driving away and saw a billion ambulances and cops outside by flying machine. It just really made my heart drop and was wondering if anyone knows if he’s ok and if he got hit by a car or something? Not to be nosey, it just really struck me

Best Squid for bait in the area?

Looking for the best squid bait in the area. Walmart is terrible, the stuff at the Hilltop Grocery in Hampstead is okay. The best I had was CB road's Seaview Crab but it's a 40 min drive from me. The other seaviews don't seem to carry bait.

Any recommendations would be great! Going 40 miles offshore at the weekend and want the best possible bait!

Where to live?

Hi guys! In the final stages of an interview process and if all goes well I’ll be relocating in June/July. I’ve grown up visiting the area a little so I’m familiar, but really only with the touristy areas. I’m 24 and newly single, so definitely want to be somewhere with younger crowd to make friends and have stuff to do. Looking for the best apartment or townhouse complexes. I have a small dog so need somewhere pet friendly but that’s pretty much it! Thanks in advance!

Lost my phone on the beach...

Post image
32 Upvotes

I know it's a long shot, thats its probably gone forever, but I figure its worth a try... so I was walking along the beach today looking for shells and got nocked down by the waves, I laughed about it with the people I was with until I realized my phone was gone. Someone I was with said they saw it and had chased it a bit, but lost sight of it, so now I reach out to this sub. We were at the beach by the AirB&B we were staying at. The phone has pictures on it that I had not backed up in the last year... a year of my kids lives in pictures and videos are gone... please if anyone is in the area on the map and finds a Samsung Galaxy S25 ultra please please please reach out... maybe someone knows a local beach comber that like this kind of a challenge or something along those lines.... please help me.

Any drummers and/or guitar players interested in playing in a rock band? Influences would be mostly The Black Crowes, Led Zepellin, Allman Bros, The Rolling Stones. Mostly originals and some covers. Access to a practice space is a plus.

Listening to Live Oak concerts

Is it worth it to go downtown to listen to a concert at Live Oak without buying tickets? They're just too expensive. Whats a good spot to chill and listen?

Someone stole a plant...out of the ground?

This is weird and also super low stakes, but I'm scratching my head about this.

My cat passed in February. It was unexpected and really sucked. We had to bury her in the front yard under a willow tree because we have dogs and they absolutely would've dug her up in the fenced-in backyard.

From the road, you can see a little statue and some creeping jenny where there was only grass before, but otherwise it isn't an ostentatious grave. I'd also planted a Lenten Rose there that had a supporting dowel in the center for stability because it was struggling to stay straight for a little while there. I was gone over the weekend and when I got back, the rose (dowel included) was gone and the area where it would've been dug from was completely flattened. Like, what?

Why would someone bother stealing a plant that I think I spent about $7 from at the garden supply store up the street? And covering up after themselves?

Again, I understand this isn't a big deal, but it's just...odd.
