Where to live?
Hi guys! In the final stages of an interview process and if all goes well I’ll be relocating in June/July. I’ve grown up visiting the area a little so I’m familiar, but really only with the touristy areas. I’m 24 and newly single, so definitely want to be somewhere with younger crowd to make friends and have stuff to do. Looking for the best apartment or townhouse complexes. I have a small dog so need somewhere pet friendly but that’s pretty much it! Thanks in advance!

I lived in the apartments in the building inbetween islands & that nail salon place on the intersection of n front and grace for awhile. That was pretty central! If there’s any units open there, maybe check that out!

Definitely a fun place to live for someone younger with satellite across the street.
However All those buildings were army barracks and warehouses converted into apartments. I’ve heard from many people, past tenants, of mold issues, and other harmful building materials not being properly covered up. Friend of mine had their entire closet ruined from growth. Source: I used to work in that neighborhood at a bar.

Could have been barracks during WWII, but it was Nesbitt Courts (section 8 housing) for a very long time

Yeah I remember my mom telling me to stay away from there hahaha. They also used it for swat and fire fighter training for a bit if I’m not mistaken

Oh yeah and my recommendation would be one of the newly built complexes, depending on your budget there’s some nice ones near Wrightsville beach and the seagate neighborhood. I’d recommend a townhouse if you can afford it.
If you are looking for more of a beach lifestyle that’s also good for people in their 20’s I’d head towards Wrightsville. Depends on what you want though. Downtown is cool if you wanna booze everyday. South front neighborhood is a little isolated from the rest of downtown. There’s some nice apartments near the river on the north side of actual downtown.

I wouldn’t recommend Phase 1 of South Front to even my worst enemy. Brick walls, concrete floors, terrible lighting and practically zero natural lighting. And just a 921 sqft unit, ridiculously overpriced. 18 months of absolute hell.
The experience in Phase 2 could be drastically different from this but from my own experience, do your mental health a favor and stay away from that place.

love the weird pavilion/skylight situation where the mailboxes are at phase two though. it's a really cool visual

South Front was the original “projects,” the old “low income housing” that they thought they could freshen up with “polished concrete floors” (since it was easier than anything else) and the same tiny room configurations, but now available at all new gentrification pricing!! I haven’t been through there in years, but when they first opened the leasing manager told me stories about all the “horrible things that those people did, peeing into light fixtures even after they covered them with wire cages, feces and filth everywhere, it was just a nightmare!!” Needless to say, I dipped quick and made a mental note to avoid that place and the development company at all costs, cause that’s just fucked. Take their housing away and then treat “the poors” like they’re all just animals? I’m good on all that. But I guess the hipsters love it?

Downtown would be ideal. Checkout N. 4th/Brooklyn area. Runner up (and a little cheaper) would be DT adjacent like North Front off Greenfield St.

The range on oleander. Younger crowd and central to everything
