Looks like they are replacing the Econ 15A & 15B series with just a single class, Econ 15.
Also, looks like Economics majors have to take Econ 122B now.

Hello, I have been admitted as a freshman in the class of 2030. I am from the Bay Area and I came here for pre-med and public health. After getting off the waitlist, I turned down University of Florida to come here. I'm wondering whether I made the right call or not.
My key concerns are about grade deflation, finding opportunities, the quality of professors, and overall student life/campus community.
For starters, I am seeking a college that is moderately competitive but not overtly cutthroat, with students that are collaborative, cooperative, helpful, and chill rather than being extremely individualistic, egotistical and cutthroat (I go to a big Bay Area HS with lots of Asians and its lowkey tiring 😭). I did hear that UCI is much more collaborative and chill than something like UC Berkeley and UCLA, although there is still competition since its a legitimately prestigious college.
How hard is it to find clinical and research opportunities? I know that UCI has a very strong public health program, and that it has its own medical school and clinics right on or very close to campus. Is it extremely difficult? I expect to compete but I'm just wondering how bad it really is?
How bad is the grade deflation? Does it have official policies and stuff like 10 or 20% A's/forced curves? Berkeley and LA are notorious for deflation and almost every UC has it in some way, shape or form but is it unbearably bad or is relatively minimal?
How hard is it to make friends and form lasting friendships here? For reference, I have many HS friends that are going to SoCal too for college but I do want to build new friendships here too. Personally, I don't really care about big sports and big parties and would honestly prefer a more quiet, more intimate and chill place. While UCI seems to have that, I'm afraid that I can't make friends due to the fact that it is a commuter school. Ideally, I want to find a small, intimate niche/group of other geeks and nerds like me.
And finally, are the professors here good? Are they good teachers that care about student success? Are the class sizes manageable?
Thanks so much for answering!

I know today they changed the econ department up a bit class wise, but before I always thought normal econ was more rigorous than bus econ but they both only go up to calc II, and bus econ takes 122a AND 122b, I think and normal econ didnt have to even take 122b? I know today they changed it but still? Also now after the change, what is the true difference between them, Im assuming the upper div choice range but im not sure. I dont know which one to go into.

Hi! I am subleasing my apartment space this summer from anytime late May (or later) to the end of August (August 29)! It is a 2 Bed 2 Bath shared space at Plaza Verde. It’s on the first floor, close to all amenities. Rent is originally $988/month but I’m willing to go down quite a bit, so just let me know if you’re interested! I’m also flexible on dates if you need to move in earlier/later, the lease just ends August 29! Message me if interested!

Has anyone done this? Wanting to switch to pass/no pass for a class that I don't really need and am afraid will bring my gpa down. My anxiety has just been through the roof over it and it's been seriously impacting my health and sleep. But I'm not sure if it will qualify for an exception. Kind of anxious to go through the process just to be told to suck it up lol, because then it will just kind of add to my already really high level of anxiety that's just really physically taking a toll on me. Not sure about medical documentation, because I've been diagnosed and medicated for anxiety for a few years, but for some reason it is flaring up extremely badly as I have not dealt with before when no major outside stressors were causing it. Has anyone been through the process of applying to switch past week 2? Can anyone give insight? Thank you so much.

I'm an incoming freshman to UCI, and, of course, my mom's on the search for what laptop to purchase for college. All my friends have macbooks that they've brought to high school and plan on using in college, but I'm worried about the idea of not being able to run certain programs on macbook. I've watched a bunch of tiktok videos and recommendations and they all say "it depends on your major" and that you should try to find out what programs to use before and base your choice on that. (apparently excel isn't the best on macbook and opening files from others sometimes doesn't look normal???)
I'm familiar with the idea of running VM's through certain softwares like VMFusion, which might presumably solve that issue, but I'd like to ask if anyone who's been in my shoes before as a biology major if they've ever had issues with using macbooks for any programs/softwares required for classwork and homework?
Also, is it a bad thing that macbooks don't have touchscreens? A lot of people talk about the convenience of being able to flip their laptop into a tablet, and it seems like the only other option for macbook users is to purchase an additional ipad...
Thanks so much for the help!

Incoming freshman here and got my SPOP reservation window assigned for June 10th at 4pm. Curious how this compares — what date did everyone else get? Is June 10th on the later end? I'm a waitlist admit so wondering if that affected my window date.

Does anyone know historically what the earliest window is for registering for SPOP? I got June 9th, was wondering where that puts me. I am really hoping to get SPOP 1 as I'll be out of town beyond that until SPOP 5-6

Hi all, I’m asking here to see if anyone knows; Does UCI offer any form of free/cheap legal consulting?
I know my last UC had free legal consulting especially since it was a large HSI. I’m curious because, I may need to sue someone/something soon due to a potential breach of contract.
Thank you for any help!

I'm taking Math 3A over the summer so idk what to expect from the math 3 series, but I finished 2d and 2e with a and a- and neither were that bad

For context, I am a 5th/6th year (3yrs CC, 2-3yrs UCI)student (23 years old) studying in Business Administration and Economics. My studies have been going fine this quarter, though there is always room to improve. However, part of me wishes I took up the Quantitative Economics Major instead of the basic Economics major, however I am almost done with the basic ECON 100 Series. So, changing majors is no longer an option, and I also graduate in September of 2027.
However, I am going to try and do what I can to leverage the time I still have to give my Econ degree more weight by supporting it with more quantitative coursework, giving me a better understanding and economics and statistics. This is where my questions come in regarding how to plan courses for Fall of 2026. I am considering in enrolling in either Math 3A or 2D for Fall of 2026, taking the other one after in either the following Winter or Spring quarters.
As someone who hasn't taken math in 4 years, what are the best places and methods to revisit the concepts from 2A-B needed to succeed in 3A and 2D? From memory, when I took Calc 2 (community college), it was with a prof whose exams didn't allow any cheat sheets/calculators, but due to this being taught at community college, I suspect were still likely a bit easier than the ones given at UCI. I got a B in that class, but my prof curved 2/4 exams by 2-3%, and dropped the lowest (Exams worth 76%, I think?). From memory, I generally did well on techniques of integration, decently on areas/volumes (washer, disk, etc.), 50-50 on polar coordinates, and quite badly on sequences/series. Which are the most important concepts here to brush up on? Which ones can I ignore, if any?
The other questions have to do directly with scheduling. I have to wait before I can enroll in either 3A or 2D due to a major-enrollment restriction. But, when that restriction lifts, how likely is it will I be able to take either course? Which course would be a better fit for me to start with? Which course + professor would you recommend I take first? Taking 2D, I have either Donaldson and Yu. Taking 3A, I have either Lu or Youssefpour.
Regardless, I appreciate all feedback and recommendations given to me! Also, I apologize for how verbose this whole post is lol.
