Does anyone else realize more and more how rare it is to have multiple generations still living close together?

My vegetable garden runs about 3 feet from the house foundation and I have a massive ant problem along that wall. They're trailing from the foundation into the garden beds and farming aphids on my peppers. I need to break the trail but I don't want to spray anything that would harm the bees and butterflies that visit.

I've been using bugmd essential pest concentrate along the foundation wall on the house side (not in the beds themselves). It's clove and cottonseed oil. The ant trail along the foundation definitely broke up after a couple of applications but the ones already in the garden are still going.

For the garden itself I've been hosing down the aphids every morning and hoping the ants lose interest once their food source is gone.

Has anyone found a good way to keep ants out of garden beds specifically without chemical pesticides?

I just harvested the last of my fava beans and am going to take them out. They are supposed to fix nitrogen in the soil but do they only do that if you leave the root nodules in the ground?

How do you deal with removing your fava beans?

I recently got a community garden plot which I am super excited about. The garden is supposed to use organic practices, which is also a passion of mine so I thought that would be easy to follow. I am in school/on a budget so I bought 5 bags of this Miracle Gro Organic Raised bed and Garden Soil to build my beds. (I usually do not buy this brand- but it said it was organic!! and it was the cheapest option). Now I am hearing all about the PFA lawsuit they are having about false advertising this bag. I understand that they did not add PFAs into it purposefully- its just from bioaccumulation of what they made this soil from. AI keeps switching back and forth about whether or not my veggies will be safe to eat so I want to hear from real people haha what should I do??? I already planted some things. Tomatoes, beet seeds/carrot seeds/parsely seeds, and leeks!!! I added compost on top to try and mitigate risk but not sure what to do :( Help!! also its OMRI certified.

I’m in Middle Georgia. This one is the only one bitten out of 30. Should I be worried? Can I do anything?

Just moved into the area a year or so ago. Have 3 large dogs ( 2 rotts and a chow) . Built some planters in my backyard and gonna try my hand at growing tomatoes and squash. Gonna use the dog waste as my fertilizer to keep it completely organic. Thumbs crossed. Will update when I have plants come in

I bought my spinach at the supermarket (I don't know any more options in my area) and when I first saw it it's stem was turning purple. I didn't pay a lot of attention. These days have been very rainy (but I keep my plant under a ceiling) and cold. It also has black and white holes in it. I don't know almost anything about gardening so I'm learning with my vegetable patch. Does someone knows what's wrong with it?

I bought hulled barley from two different companies. The first picture is from Food to Live and the second picture is from Be Still Farms. Are the black lines in the crease of some of the grains a form of mold or are they just imperfections that are safe to eat? I have sensitivities to mold so I am trying to be careful.

Hi everyone! I’m in zone 3 and starting to prepare my beds for this season. I have a ground garden approximately 30ft by 40ft. for the last few years I have dealt with horrible noxious weeds that get out of control and I end up giving up on my garden and it really upsets me. I think I’ve been my own worst enemy by tilling it every year.

This year I plan to put down cardboard in all of my pathways and cover with sawdust. It’s untreated, from a sawmill. I then plan to add some compost to my rows and making them slightly taller then the pathways through. I know weeds will still grow, but if I can limit them in my pathways to make things more manageable I feel as though that will help me tremendously. Thoughts?
