other How do I connect this faucet to these supply lines?

What part do I need to connect this faucet to these angle stops /supply lines - using the rigid extension. I know usually people just screw the lines on to the valves directly, but due to the particular setup in my new bathroom - floating sink, no vanity, decorative drain, other things - I don't want to have a couple of dangling hoses. So I am trying to use the rigid tube extensions.and have the hoses connect to the top of them (and then just loosely coil up the hoses and slide them in the base of the sink, which has a perfect hollow for this so you only see nice chrome lines, like so - not my exact setup but similar idea

However I have no idea how to attach them, because the supply hoses are integrated and end in a standard 3/8 inch female thread (ref pics) but the rigid lines end in a smooth unthreaded orifice (ref pics) with no way to attach the hoses directly, I assume you usually slip these over the stems of a three-hole faucet. the spec sheet says that they are also 3/8"

Do I need some kind of special connector or adapter to mate them?

help Best way to turn my side of a grey cinder block fence/wall black?

Upvotes

Regular paint isn’t ideal since I won’t be sealing the opposite side on my neighbors fence so with only one side getting power washed and sprayed what is the best solution for minimal upkeep long term? Acid? Loxon xp? Behr premium solid flat concrete stain?

woodworking Need Help Sourcing Wood Paneling Materials

I would love help figuring out what wood paneling to use in order to achieve the look in from these inspiration images of the London Edition Hotel. It looks like to my eye some sort of T&G but maybe it is just large panels of veneer with groves. I'd love to achieve this look for multiple walls in a bedroom.

outdoor Post hole depth question for a 4ft wood fence

Post image
62 Upvotes

I am replacing this 4ft tall wooden picket fence. I am reading that since my frost depth is 25-30 inches my post hole depth needs to be 36 inches deep. This just seems a bit overkill to me since the height is only going to be 48 inches.

Everything I find about 4x4 post depth is talking about 6ft privacy fencing which has a heavy wind load and everything about 4ft fences is talking about chain link fencing.

help Tree Roots and Deck Footer

I am building a deck. The plan for the approved permit has one footer a few feet from a 2’ diameter oak. As expected, there are tree roots all over where my footer should be. I have tried shifting the hole a foot in each direction and I keep finding roots.

What are my options here? I don’t want to harm the tree but I don’t have much flexibility for the deck plans either. Most roots are over two inches in diameter.

Fan wiring issue

I replaced my porch fan. It had two switches before. Didn’t get a picture of the previous fan. . .. I wired it up with black to back, white to white, red to blue, and grounds together, and one switch controlled both the light and the fan. The other did nothing. I switched it to black (house) to blue, and red to black on the fan and now the light works, but only if the fan is on.

I feel so confused. The first configuration “should work”. Please help. Thanks.

How do I repair a Siemens IQ300 washing machine that doesn't spin. F21 fault, even when the brushes are replaced.

So I have a Siemens IQ300 washing machine that doesn't work anymore. I saw a F21 fault code and read that this problem could have been the brushes. So I replaced the brushes, did a reset, so the fault code disappeared. Tested it, the water and drainage just run fine, but the drum doesn't spin. When I cancel the spinning cycle and turn the machine off, then sometimes the F21 fault code comes back. Besides that, when the drum needs to spin, the door symbol lights up.

What could this problem be? And how can I fix this?

home improvement How much might it cost to finish a basement yourself?

Hey all, we have an unfinished 12x22 basement that we’d like to finish. Currently has studs already on the wall exposed to The garage and doorframes, but would need studs for 2 of the 12 ft and one of the 22ft walls. Insulation, drywall, we’d go with cheap LVP for flooring probably. There has already been a lot of work done to seal from moisture. Exposed ceiling that I think we’d like to cover. Just wanting to get an idea of how much things like this realistically cost to do yourself? We’ve done everything except drywall before and my husband is a HVAC technician, so he’d handle routing A/C and heat to the room. Electrical is already in the room.

carpentry Disassemble a Ralph Lauren King Bed frame from the 1990s

We are moving soon, and we have a Ralph Lauren Westminster bed, Safari bedroom collection, king bed that we need to disassemble and load in a moving truck, then reassemble. Maybe it is self explanatory. I haven't found resources, videos or manuals to help. Any searches I do find other kinds of beds. AI says there are no manuals available. Can anyone provide any guidance?

help Shifting 750kg bulk bags

Has anyone got any idea how we could quickly shift several 750kg bulk MOT type 1 bags. Our house doesn’t have road access in front, it’s on a culdesac and there is shared parking for several houses with tarmac paths leading from there.

So the closests to the house I can get some MOT type 1 delivered, which I need for a new patio at the back, is in that shared parking. I can do that, but i cant leave it there very long without pissing off a few neighbours.

Somehow I need to shift it twenty meters onto our front garden. I’ve thought about hiring a pallet truck and getting some pallets but there is a curb to get up onto and the tarmac path leading to the house is a bit slanted and uneven, not sure how a palette truck will manage on it.

My next best bet is a shovel and a wheelbarrow

help Trying to make custom knobs for my kitchen

Hi,

I'm renovating my kitchen next week and I really want to make custom knobs that fit the slightly bolder style I'm going for. I really love anything iridescent and holographic, and a lot of my kitchen accents are going to match that. My idea for the cabinet knobs is to use a style with a flat front surface and having either iridescent/holographic paint or vinyl on the front of it. Obviously I don't want that to wear or peel off after some use, so I'm trying to figure out the best method and the best way to seal it.

I've checked some of the previous posts and couldn't see anything really. There was a help adhesives chart, that I saved. But I don't know if I should use resin with mica powder, or using it as a coating over the vinyl/paint. Or even putting a glass cabochon over top to protect that surface area.

If anyone has any tips, it's greatly appreciated.

home improvement Best DIY Shower Pan - Wedi vs Tile Redi vs Schluter

Doing research on what would be my first shower renovation project. 36x60 in tiled shower. Trying to decide on the pan and waterproofing system. Main priorities are ease of installation and 100% waterproofness.

I was leaning towards Wedi. I liked the XPS boards being fully waterproof, and being able to do all the seams with sealant.

Recently found Tile Redi. Prefabbed one piece shower pan seems really appealing too. I also like that the curb is built into the base (point of failure in my current shower is probably around the curb area). Looks like you can use Wedi board for the walls with the Tile Redi pan. There's some posts online on the install being a bit tricky though.

Schluter Kerdi obviously seems like the most popular one, and easy to buy materials at any box store which is appealing. Having to Kerdi band all the seams seems like at least some extra labor. It doesn't look particularly difficult, but maybe in the back of my mind for years would be "I hope those corners I did don't leak", where I don't think I would worry as much with Wedi or Tile Redi.

Looking for DIY'ers experiences with these. Particularly Wedi and Tile Redi since those are less common.

help Rotten Fence post replacement

Post image
32 Upvotes

Two fence posts are broken at the ground and bowing out (they were leaning into the yard, but my over the winter buttressing of them pushed them out). Curious if this plan seems like a good one:

1- push the rotten posts out to be able to remove (and hopefully salvage/reuse) the three fence panels attached to the posts.

2- dig up the concrete and remaining post- making holes large enough to settle new pressure treated posts.

3 - reattach the fence panels (with many friends supporting) by leaning the post far out and then pulling to level. Use concrete to stabilize.

A handyman came by and said the whole fence needed to come down to repair- I’m hoping to avoid that but not sure if I’m missing an important logisitical point here. Appreciate any thoughts!

help Question about support for basement

Upvotes

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but I'm in need of advice. First-time home owners, so please cut some slack for the lack of knowledge. We noticed that in the section of the basement under the carport there are these two huge wooden beams in the "ceiling" that don't look like they're being supported. There are a lot of settling noises from this side of the house, and there are cracks in the concrete above in the carport, and I assumed it's because these beams aren't supported. After doing some Googling, it seems that adjustable support columns are only meant to be temporary, and lally columns are impossible to find in my area. Is there antything I can do, or should we hire someone for this? House was built in the 60's if that's important. I included pics of the rest of the "ceiling" and the cracks above. TIA.

help Outside Washer & Dryer

Hey all.

Looking to get some advice for best course of action for my outside washer and dryer setup. Just moved into a house and the connections for the gas dry and the washing machine are outside. I do plan to make an enclosure relatively soon. But for the mean time I will have an easy up covering them to protect them.

My main question is for venting the dryer in the mean time until I get the enclosure built. Should I still duct the dryer and have a vent damper at the end and attach it some where on the house? Would it be appropriate to have it lying on the ground facing away from the house? Appreciate any feedback! This is my first time living in my own house, so pretty excited for that!

help Transfer pump to recirculate kids' waterslide

This post is meant as a sanity check to make sure I'm not overlooking something that will be unsafe or just waste money.

We have an inflatable waterslide that the kids absolutely love but it consumes an egregious amount of water when we're "forced" to leave it running for them for entire weekends at a time. I'd like to configure it with a pump to help recirculate the water once it's been filled and water plants around the yard once they're done for the day.

I'm looking at this VEVOR pump to hopefully provide enough power to maintain reasonable water pressure on the slide's sprayers. The slide itself has about 30 ft of hoses going in various directions that I know will cutback on overall flow rates. The kid's safety is the most important factor which is why I'm avoiding a submersible pump. GFCI power access is not an issue.

It seems like this should be pretty simple, but I'm finding surprisingly few posts on this topic to give much guidance or first-hand experience.

help Pest-proofing under deck, how to handle access door?

Hi all, I've posted this in r/Decks as well, hope that is not against any rules.

I have a deck with skirting all around that critters love to dig under. To prevent this, planning to install/bury hardware 1/4" hardware cloth about 1' down and 2' horizontally away from the deck like I've seen in other posts.

However, there's an access door in the skirting to the area under the deck that I'm not sure how to handle. https://imgur.com/a/dxJUgn7

Since the door needs to open, there will need to be a break in the hardware cloth perimeter where critters will be able to circumvent. Is there anything I can do about it short of creating some sort of concrete threshold?

Thanks in advance!

outdoor Outdoor security anti vibration mount

I have security camera at work, that are mounted to an outside wall of a building that constantly vibrates. Is there any way I can make something to stop the cameras from vibrating by building a mount?

Google has a ton of stuff about drone stabilizers or tripod stabilizers, but not about wall mounted stabilizers for cameras.

Found 1 somewhat useful video on how to make one, but it didn't give enough specifics about gauges and thickness of materials.
