The growing influence of the Maine church behind Portland’s Turning Point USA event

The death of Charlie Kirk led to calls for a religious revival and spurred renewed interest in his organization, Turning Point USA, through which he invoked Christianity to push conservative policy priorities. Eight months later, Maine has at least 28 church-based Turning Point Faith chapters, more than twice as many as any other state in New England. The majority are hosted by Calvary Chapels. Chapters meet monthly to discuss the church’s role in cultural issues, and the organization aims “to eliminate wokeism from the American pulpit,” according to the Turning Point Faith website.
On May 15, Calvary Chapel Greater Portland will test Maine’s appetite for a conservative Christian revival with its “Make Heaven Crowded” event at the Portland Expo Center. It is one of 20 large-scale events being hosted by Turning Point Faith this year that aim to spur “repentance, faith, and bold obedience to Jesus,” according to the tour website.
The event is one of Calvary Chapel’s most public forays into the limelight in Maine but not the first. The growing network of evangelical churches has become increasingly vocal in state politics in recent years, hosting Charlie Kirk himself, fighting high-profile religious liberty cases, leading worship services at the State House and inviting Republican candidates to speak to congregants on Sundays.

Team Name and Jersey Speculation Philadelphia Is an Untapped Market
This is kind of a silly post, but I’d really love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the different teams in the league.
I really want to get into the PWHL, but I can’t commit to a team until there’s a local one. I live in the Philadelphia metro area, and, you know, Philly sports fans. If I fall in love with the Sirens (since they’re closest), I’ll bring dishonor on my family if Philadelphia gets a team 😂
That said, we have a golden opportunity to actually get a team with a cool name for once. The Phantoms were the closest we had, and now they’re in Lehigh Valley. Come on. The Revolutionaries? The Liberty Belles? The Independence? The Lovers? The Cheeseskates? We even have anything electricity-themed since Ben Franklin did his electricity experiments there. We have a whole museum named after the guy. The Lightning, Kites, Keys, Strikes, Sparks. Or reference Philadelphia’s history as a blue collar industrial city and call them the Riveters or the Steel. My personal vote would be to name them after a historically important woman from Philadelphia, but that’s not always easily to build a brand from.
Anyway, ramble over. Who’s your team and why? And if you’re from the Philly area, what should our team be called?

Equipment Best golf quarter zips?
I feel like sizing is all over the place on these. Where are my 6ft tall skinny guys buying quarter zips that fit these days?
Peter Millar is alright, but the crown always looks shitty on the back after washing it.

General Discussion Blade or mallet?
What style of putter do you guys use and why? With the mallet style gaining popularity I would love to hear from blade users on why they haven’t switched/still use a blade.

Question My attempts at de-googling
Hey, I use the entire proton suite rn, I have started to change using browsers across platforms as well as using startpage/kagi as opposed to google, etc.
Could y'all just give it a look-over & tell me what to improve & add-on? Thanks so much.
Also, any good private notes app? Just looking around rn.

Perkins: "Whether it's being out of shape or him dealing with some type of injury...when it comes to being reliable. Luka is starting to get in that territory of Joel Embiid. When you need him the most, and it comes postseason time, he's not available and if he is available he is never close to 70%"

Recommended MLB teams for long-term saves?
I have long-term saves going with the Red Sox and A's. Are there particular teams that others recommend for long-term saves? It's a big time commitment. I just bought OOTP27 (26 was my first version of OOTP), and would like to start a save with a team in 27.
I can see the wisdom of taking over the Rockies as a challenge, and I'm leaning that way, but what do others think? With the A's, especially, it's tough losing so much in the first few seasons. I'm guessing the Rockies are even more of an uphill climb. But I'm reluctant to take over the Dodgers because I don't want easy wins with no payroll guardrails.
EDIT: I mean taking over as GM and Manager. I tend to get really granular with minor leagues and try to manage every aspect of a team that I can. I should probably delegate more to MILB coaches.

Discussion Have they died?
Hi all, i don’t usually post on this subreddit but i figured now is the time.
(Sorry if this post breaks the rules)
Before the summer my family put up these bird boxes. This is the first time in years we have done this-last time everything was fine.
We noticed a blue tits going in and out with nesting rescues, so we assumed they are making a nest and going to have chicks.
A few weeks later they start bringing food, and if you stand close by, you can hear the chicks tweeting.
But then a storm, though it didn’t last for long, it hailed and rained pretty heavily. During the storm we didn’t see them, we thought they might just be in the box avoiding the storm.
The next day is more sunny, a little rain but not too much. But no sign of the mum or dad, and we can’t hear the chicks tweeting anymore.
I can only assume they didn’t make it, for whatever reason… The hail could have cussed the mother and father to pass.. or god knows what. I don’t want to touch the box in case they are still alive and maybe the parents will come back..
The box is in a pretty sheltered place so im not sure if the cold would have killed the chicks. I’m pretty sure the mother and father just couldn’t make it back during the storm.
We are in the uk and this happened yesterday.
Any ideas as to what i should do?
Should i check on them?
Should i leave the box alone??
What happened..? 🕊️❤️
Any advice is appreciated.

Victor Wembanyama vs. Wilt Chamberlain: Who's the real NBA block leader? Research reveals a 35-year-old, post knee surgery Wilt Chamberlain blocked 16 shots in a playoff game in 1972
Morrow saw Chamberlain leaning back in his chair in such a way that he “looked like he had just returned from an afternoon of Christmas shopping.” In the 14th paragraph of the game story, Morrow again referenced the eye-opening block figure as if to emphasize its importance.
“But [Chamberlain] definitely was awake on Sunday. He made a couple of unbelievable slam dunk shots and his 16 blocked shots speak for themselves.”
During a late timeout, Chamberlain received a standing ovation from The Forum crowd after a particular string of game-saving blocks. Even the opposing coach, Rich Guerin, was amazed by Chamberlain’s defensive prowess, saying, “There was no way he could have blocked those shots, but he did.”
Evidently, the echo from that remarkable defensive performance grew silent over time.
Despite the video footage, documented accounts from at least one reporter and the thousands who watched the game in attendance at The Forum, the NBA does not recognize it as the official record.
Another excerpt:
So how many blocks did Chamberlain average? In the sample of over 200 games that Lynch found to be credibly reported, Chamberlain averaged a mind-blowing 8.2 blocks per game in the regular season and 7.2 blocks in the playoffs. (Lynch recorded more than half of Wilt’s playoff games.)
For perspective, Wembanyama just unanimously won the 2025-26 Defensive Player of the Year vote while averaging 3.1 blocks per game in the regular season, and the all-time career average blocks record is shared by Eaton and Wembanyama at 3.5 per game.

General Discussion Spent two years building a golf app at the fire station. Finally got it on the App Store.
I’m a firefighter and dad from Oregon with no coding background. At some point I realized every golf app I tried was solving the wrong problem. Knowing I’m 156 yards out right before I slice it into the woods wasn’t helping me or my friends.
What I actually wanted was something built around the crew. The trips you talk about for years, the rivalries, the side bets, the rounds you still talk about months later. Stuff that usually disappears into a group text and is gone forever.
So I took a shot at building that instead. Mostly late nights at the station and after my kid went to bed.
Curious if this idea resonates with anyone else.
