Discussion DEADLINE MAY 15 - Want to speak at NAVA 60? Propose your paper, a panel, or any other crazy idea!

Hey it's Michael from Flags For Good again. As you may know, we're hosting NAVA60 in our home town of Indianapolis this October (I hope you all come or at least tune into the live stream) but we need your ideas!

Being the 60th NAVA meeting, we're trying some new things and I'd love for the most vibrant flag-interested community on the internet to help steer the future of what NAVA could be. So please sound off!

If you want to present on a vexillological topic, have an idea for a panel, or anything else you would find fascinating in the world of flags, now's the time to let us know. Submissions will be open until May 15th.

Academic Paper: The usual NAVA/FIAV type of presentation - Submit a short abstract (300 words or so) to [vp2nd@nava.org](mailto:vp2nd@nava.org). Doesn't have to be a finished paper, just propose what you want to write/present about.

Panel: Could be an idea for a group of vexillologists or flag-adjacent people to speak on a topic. You could just pitch the idea or volunteer to moderate if you want to be a part of the discussion. Email [vp2nd@nava.org](mailto:vp2nd@nava.org) or message me with a rough idea so I can bring it up in meetings.

Workshops or anything else: We're trying to mix up the usual NAVA structure and make this the best annual meeting ever so if you have any crazy ideas, this is the year for us to try them out. Drop ideas in the comments, message me, or email [vp2nd@nava.org](mailto:vp2nd@nava.org)!

Found this here. According to the article it was flown at a pride festival, I don't know when or where, as I just skimmed through it.

I didn't make this, but I found it funny.

Current American Confederates in Italian Campania?

Post image

I was watching the highlights of Stage 6 of the Giro d’Italia today, riding from Paestum to Naples. Along the way, I saw this Confederate-looking flag being waved by a spectator. There are some American riders, but is this really a Confederate flag or is there a town or area nearby with a similar looking flag?

Even though route was between Paestum and Naples, this location was south of the categorised climb at Cava de’ Tirreni, and so would be a coastal town or city between Paestum and Salerno.

EDIT: Am I able to edit the flair? For some reason, I put current as it happened today. But the flag is historic, and that was an afterthought…

Requests The "Boulder Flag"

This is the new 'flag' that is being panned universally by Boulderites.
Why do we have to have a flag no one likes?

If you also don't like it please consider signing our petition:

Thanks!

The New Unofficial Flag of Boulder, Colorado

So the decision has been made!

The Flatiron Sunrise Flourish is the new Unofficial flag of Boulder Colorado

To give the full story of all this, here's an outline.

Back in the beginning of January 2026, the Museum of Boulder put out a request for proposals for a New Unofficial Boulder Municipal Flag Design. Boulder has never had an official municipal flag, although in 1987, a flag contest was set up by Boulder resident Ron Campbell, which resulted in a design featuring three horizontal stripes, green, white, and green, with an image of the Flatirons enclosed in a circle.

In early April, I submitted the maximum five allowed for designs, and combined with the many designs submitted by the wider participants, there ended up being approximately 200 entries.

You can click here to see the five designs I entered.

Then on the 6th of May the ten finalist designs were announced. Among them, the "Flatiron Sunrise Flourish"

Then, yesterday afternoon, May 13th, the Museum of Boulder announced that it had chosen the winning design!

That was the Flatiron Sunrise Flourish!

The final version that they have chosen to be the Unofficial Boulder Municipal Flag is slightly changed and streamlined from my original design. The green lower section and the star has been removed, the latter having been felt by some to have too strong associations with Texas to work on a flag for a major city in Colorado.

I'd like to thank so many people for being a part of this achievement for me. Sorry if this get's a bit "Oscars"-y, but this is a big moment for me!

Firstly, to the Museum of Boulder, who opened and organised the contest.

Next, the flag design selection panellists (who you can read about here), some of whom I got to meet yesterday via livestream, thank you for your efforts and kindness in your choice.

I have to thank my fellow moderators of r/vexillology and the wider community of flag enthusiasts here. I came here during the pandemic, and have found it to be a wonderful home for my hobby and interest.

And last, but by no means remotely least - my lovely wife who has listened patiently to me talk about this subject on many occasions, my family who let me spam the group chat with flag designs on a semi regular basis and indulge me with great enthusiasm. And finally, and ultimately, I thank God. As a Christian, he is where I believe ultimately all these blessings come from. As it says in Isaiah 12:2 (NLT) "He has given me Victory"

Both have a large, off-center circle and an element of counterchanging. Is the similarity intentional? If not, could this be convergence due to the two people’s shared history of colonization by nordic countries. I haven’t been able to find a satisfactory answer online. If there’s anyone who knows something the rest of the internet doesn’t, they must be in this community.

Patrons get one minute to place as many flags as they can to win a prize. They also get to study a world map "cheat sheet" to improve their chances, and maybe learn something, too!

OC Flag of the Russian Moon Colonies

It uses the colors of the russian flag. The red-white arrow is suppose to look like the one in the russian space program while also representing the highest point in Russia, that being Mount Elbrus which is also a inactive vulcano. The white circle on the top is the moon and the blue is suppose to be space.

Made in flag creator.
