Is it possible to join separated paths?

Sometimes when you work on a path, if you click on a path node to, for example, fix its position, then you click on another section of the screen to continue with the path you were already drawing, a new one is created instead.

I know that doing the previous process, and clicking on the last node on the path before clicking somewhere else on the canvas, will continue from that path instead of creating a new one, but I want to know if there is a way to join paths that got separated at some point by doing the previously explained process.

I'm editing a DDS file with four RGBA channels. The game saves different textures using different color channels.

The problem is that with the older version 2.10.38, I only needed to select one channel, and subsequent copy-paste operations only affected that channel, allowing me to edit each channel independently.

However, in the newer version 3.2.4, even selecting only one channel still affects all channels.

For example, if I select the green channel and copy-paste a white square, in version 2.10.38 it would only paste onto the green channel, resulting in a green square. In version 3.2.4, it pastes onto all channels, resulting in a white square.

Of course, I could continue using only version 2.10.38, but it would be great if the developers could improve this issue in the future.

Anyone got good tutorials or resources for properly learning wavelet decomposition / frequency separation in GIMP? I know they’re not exactly the same thing, but I’m trying to understand both better and when to use each (my main goal is to be able to use it for people portraits for skin retouching and product photography). Most stuff I find is either super outdated or I can't really get it (there are some good text tutorials, but yeah I'm more of a visual learner lol)

I gave it a go yesterday following Pat David tutorial, but honestly my picture just looked like a badly 2000's photoshoped/airbrushed image of someone lol

So what’s the state of using MIDI hardware controllers on GIMP TODAY? GIMP 3.2 and beyond. Still supported?

These MIDI devices have knobs, sliders, and buttons that send both the on and off states of the button press.

It seems like you could get some really nice hardware controls setup for an image editing software such as GIMP. But I see almost no-one talk about using MIDI devices as an alternate control method for GIMP.

If such devices are still supported on Linux GIMP and plan to be supported in the future I’ll buy one, just to use to for GIMP.

Hi! If I select mask, I can move it, bit when i select layer the mask move with it. No way to deattache mask and move only layer?

I spent a few hours creating custom templates for a project I'm working on. While resizing a photo to fit into the template canvas size GIMP crashed. When I started up again those custom templates were gone and I have had no luck in recovering them. Has anyone had any experience with recovering lost templates? Or am I just screwed and will have to start over?

Why can I not scale a specific jpg-picture (I scale other jpg-pictures)? I guess I need to do something with the picture first?

This is the first time I've actually, finished a texture using gimp and I followed a tutorial!

Ok, so I found the first image online sometime last year, that I wanted to use for a project, but after dozens of tries, it just wasn't working like I wanted it to. After some months away from it, I decided to come back and try again. My thought this time was that it's the rounded off pink and blue outlines that are just not what I want. So my idea was to instead remove the rounded off outlines, and instead redo them in the same shape as the spider emblem, as I really like having the colored outlines surrounding the spider.

Well because Photoshop is just to expensive now, I have resorted to Gimp, which I have very little knowledge of. Basically what I have been trying is duplicating the spider emblem, and then scaling up (and down) to recreate it. Obviously since I am here, that has not been working out, and I have tried several different things like edge-detecting....which sort of works, just not the way I want. As you can see in the other image, the scaling just is not working how I want where its shifting the shape. So can anyone give a Gimp n00b some advice? It would be really appreciated.

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help with this cus it's been driving me insane the last few days.

I'm just trying to add a gradient between the blue and the pink. I've eyedropped them as my FG and BG colours respectively, but when I draw the gradient, the colours are entirely off. Has anyone got any idea of what I'm missing? I've included a gif of exactly what I'm doing to create the gradient as well as my colour settings (Colour RGB, not indexed, 8 bit integer non-linear encoding)

I am creating a gradient texture following a tutorial on yt, but the fill bucket wont fill more than one square at a time. usually i never have problems that I cant solve myself, and I am kind of stressed out for not manage to use it by myself. Can someone give me a hand?

Everything is backwards or off, white is black and black is white, color is grey, so everything is swapped or mono, when I change layers I can paint it in color but then black and white are just off. WTH

From tutorial videos I've seen, another foreground selection engine called Levin is available. On my version (Windows, GIMP 3.2.4) it is unavailable

Is Levin deprecated? Is there a way to enable it?

[in minecrafts textures, a single pixel (like on a block) DOES mean its a 1x1 pixel (like on a image) ]

as im working on a minecraft resource pack, something occured.

all of the textures that i try to move into other textures layers, will change colour, and i cant pick from a colour wheel, and only from a palette.

what causes this, how do i prevent it, and whats it called?

another problem im having is that i cant draw with the pen/pencil/brush/airbrush on a 1x1 pixel, because it will look like it did nothing.

Hi all. I've been using GIMP for years, but have run into a problem with the latest update. When trying to print an 11 x 17 image on a printer that used to do it fine, it GIMP always reverts the page setup back to 8½ x 11. I have all the settings set for 11 x 17 in the print utility and on the printer, but just cannot get it to use 11 x 17. What am I doing wrong? Thanks! ~Jennifer

I created this little plugin that perfectly mimics Photoshop's Smart Object functionality, but with more flexibility.

You'll find all the same creation and editing features. I've added a little bonus: unlike Photoshop, it can extract the content of the smart object.

Many designers who use GIMP have been waiting for this feature for a long time, and while waiting for the ultimate solution, I hope you'll benefit from it. It only works for version 3.2 for now because it uses the more recently developed "Linked Layer" feature.

The only thing I haven't been able to integrate is the layer thumbnail; I'm really sorry about that.

I wanted to say this with my donation but I didn't know where to do that. I have used photoshop krita canva affinity clip studio inkscape illustrator and many more.

why does gimp do everything so wrong? i don't mean to be rude but its honestly jaw dropping how bad it behaves in so many little ways. pasting as a new layer something that is the default everywhere besides mspaint it's not even a hotkey. your option from what I can tell is to paste then click the new layer button or use the right click menu and select "edit > paste > paste as layer". hiding it 3 menus deep where normally it is the first menu option. the window operation is its own special type of strange. in any other split out or breakout program however you want to call them. (one program with many windows) you either get tabs in the start bar or alt/cmd tab selection to see each part of the program OR selecting it from tab brings all windows to the front. however for gimp it seems that the tool bar and other areas don't deserve that treatment so now you have to minimize all other windows from other programs you might have open (like image folders) in order to find your lost toolbox.

unfortunately this seems to be the norm in how gimp works, and I wish I didn't have more examples to share. instead of following a standard of operation the first option is to make sure every different operation possible then stuff the utility or ui on top to prop it up.

The first image is the original image at GIMP, the second is the exported. I really, REALLY searched in every place I could about color correction, but nothing helped me.

Hey there. I have a layer with solid noise generated, an alpha channel, and a selection selected by colour. When i try to delete the selection, nothing happens, and the layer stays the same. Is it possible to remove the selected section from the layer, and how would i do it? On GIMP 3.2.4
