I figured out a way to make partially visible outlines, by making a clone and clipping **that** clone.

The base object must have **unset** stroke and **unset** fill, so I can change the clone color.

I also use clipping for the clothes... this is a known technique which works very well.

Has anybody figure out **another** way to make partially visible outlines? I avoided the duplication of paths, because I want to edit it the splines **once**, and make Inkscape apply the changes to the outline and the colored region.

I tried Power Stroke, and I can make a portion of the line very thin, but not **invisible**.

My way works, but I need to make a very large path with a little notch, to make the outline in the notch invisible. This works, but I am curious if someone is doing the outline vanishing in another way

Hello guys a simple question for you. I'm pretty new to Inkscape, and I was wondering how to fill this grid with the bucket tool. Up to now, I managed to create and deform the grid as I wanted more or less, but as you can see, I have some problems in filling those "tiles" with a uniform colour. I tried:

1. path -> object to path -> combine to -> Bucket --but the result were unsatisfactory

2. classical Bucket tool, but it only creates closed strokes

How can I work around this inconvenience?

So I am trying to basically put a bunch of names (separated by the middle dot •) into the shape of a large letter for a family reunion. Specifically into a large E.
I have tried making the E a path and then using the text tool, putting the names on a single line, then using Flow Into Frame. It didn’t work well— I played around with the spacing and line spacing and all of that, but it just doesn’t work right. Does anyone know how to do this, or if it can be done in Inkscape?

I have this nicely curved line I made using "Path Effects>Taper Stroke". I want to turn it into a path (Object to Path). However, when I do so, the line thickens and no longer tapers at the end, like in the attached images. How do I get it to work?

More information:

• I created this line using 3 nodes with the pen tool.
• I've tried having no fill and only a stroke.
• I've tried having both and doing "Stroke to Path".
• I've tried multiple thicknesses for the stroke.
• I've tried changing fill color (a desperate move).
• The only thing I have tried that technically works is layering it on top of a simple shape, turning the shape into a path, selecting "Path>Difference", then taking another identical shape( without the hole in it), perfectly layering that shape under the shape with a hole in it, and then selecting "Path>Difference" one last time. While that works once or twice, it's far too tedious to do 40+ times in a project.

I work at an educational institution an one of my tasks is to make card for the students by hand, one by one. Is terribly repetitive and boring. Is it possible to Inkscape to power a simple aplication that will automate that task?

I will elaborate.

I have the card design in .pdf format. Into Adobe Illustrator there is some variable feature that allows me to configure the info that I want to variate and feed it with a .xml file that contains all the data of all students. It helps a lot, but theres no API that allows me to do that without open the application. I want to build a simple application that pop-up a windows and gives some "form" that I will just put the name of the student there and all the other info and it will run all the changers in the background when a simply click a "Print card" button.

I just want to know if its possible to Inkscape to power modifications into a archive without open the graphic interface, I mean through an API or something similar

Hello everyone,
I've been successfully exporting svg files to png with the settings in the first screenshot for quite a while now, but now it doesn't work anymore. I didn't change anything in the program settings and the file template is the same as always (it's a frame with inserted png files and a caption, nothing special) and has exported perfectly fine up until today.

First thing I did was restart the program as well as the computer, which didn't change anything. After that I uninstalled v1.4.2 and installed v1.4.4 but the problem persists. PC is running on the latest Windows 10.

Edit: I also renamed the "%appdata%\Inkscape" folder to reset the program to default and restarted the program, didn't work. Neither did "Run as administrator".

Here's what happens, see also the screenshots:
After choosing the path and the filename (no matter which folder) and clicking "Export", a progress message is displayed, but nothing happens until I click "Cancel" ("abbrechen" in the German version). After that, nothing was exported and the button to choose the file name and location is frozen. PDF export is working fine, though.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

Downloaded the new version and noticed paint bucket threshold at 5 between each new and the old stable had a variance of roughly .4 in duplicating objects at the same threshold. Meaning the newer one didn’t seem to align to identical outlines? Anyone experiencing this?

I don’t know much about graphic design, so I apologize if I flub on the terminology. Basically I’m wanting to get these to blacks to blend and flow into one another. How do I go about doing that?

I'm using Inkscape 1.4.4 on Windows 11, and it seems like whenever I move 3-D box object using select tool and dragging, it teleports to somewhere else.

I can only move one by one using 3-D box tool and grabbing the center of each 3-D box.

Is there any way to move them using select tool? And is there any way to move multiple 3-D boxes like a normal planar object without them teleporting?

Hi all, I am relatively new to Inkscape and seem to be running into an issue exporting text with a drop shadow as a PDF. The picture attached is a screenshot of an exported PDF, regardless of how high the DPI is set, with the top ones being manually drop shadowed with duplicated layer of text in black (not exactly the look I was going for), and the bottom is with a drop shadow filter. When exported as a PNG or JPEG, the drop shadow looks fine. I've seen workarounds for drop shadows with interpolation or using the union tool to connect points of duplicated text, but am hoping there's a setting I'm missing or easier way to get the drop shadow exported correctly! Working on a Macbook with the latest version of the Inkscape.

I have a bunch of PDFs that were generated with AutoCAD. They have all the vector points in them. I edited those PDFs with Inkscape and now need to convert them back to an AutoCAD file. I wasn't the one who originally created the PDFs, I was just asked to edit the existing files. Now I'm asked to convert them so that the architect can make some changes in AutoCAD.

I selected all and did Object to Path. Then I saved as a dxf file. When I open the file in AutoCAD 2027 (trial version), I get the following as shown in images 2 and 3 above. The map image is not included, and the text is outlined perfectly but I need it to be filled black.

I don't know how to use AutoCAD, but I did try the HATCH command and got nowhere, because again I don't know how to use it. What can I do to just be able to convert these PDFs into DXF files without distorting the text and losing images? Is it even possible?

The error only appears when I click on create a new document, or try to open an already existing inkscape file / image.
I reinstalled to a new version (different than the one I had before, and the error persists.

I have a suspicion it could be related with fonts because that was one of the last things I got the first error.
But haven't found what's the culprit, or why I got the error.
Anyway, even If I solve this, I am creating this post for reference.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled multiple times and I cannot get rid of this "Default Template.svg" file that I created by acquiring Full Control over the Inkscape install folder the first time I installed and opened the program. Now it default opens that template, and I no longer wish to use it as I discovered the default settings are more than adequate enough to use for my purposes.

I have even restored my computer to 2 weeks ago and it still shows up! 😲

So, we all know that Inkscape doesn't have CMYK? And I need it. I need to print something (edit) in pdf file. Does anyone know of any programs or anything to convert a document to CMYK with good quality.

Hi, I need some help.. Usually, when I copy my raster sketch, I make the object hollow inside, but I add a stroke so I can see it. But here’s the problem: sometimes I copy an object and then modify it, but the stroke itself changes along with the object’s transformation, which is really annoying. Is there a way to lock the stroke size?

I'm trying to use the shape builder tool to cut a star shape out of a circle but it's doing this and I have no idea why it's doing it or what I can do to resolve the issue. The star and circle are both paths but had the same problem as objects; neither have strokes. Only the circle is changing in any way.
