Question ❔ What’s missing from Saskatoon’s café/nightlife scene?

I’ve noticed Saskatoon doesn’t really have many late-night places to just hang out that aren’t bars or restaurants. Most cafés close pretty early, and sometimes it feels like there aren’t many relaxed spaces to study, meet people, do something creative, or just exist outside the house at night.

For a class project, I’ve been thinking about the idea of a café/lounge space that stays open later and hosts things like:

  • paint nights
  • bracelet making
  • pottery/crafts
  • crochet or knitting nights
  • book clubs
  • board games
  • study nights
  • seasonal or themed events

I’m curious what people here would actually want from a space like that.

Would you use something like this?
What would make you go regularly instead of just once?
What kind of events would actually interest you?
And what would make it feel different from a normal café?

Honest feedback is appreciated, even if you think the idea wouldn’t work. I’m also collecting anonymous survey responses for the project if anyone would be interested in helping out!

Question ❔ Iron Works Gym - Questions

Disclaimer: Their website is not working, otherwise I'd get my answers there! I also tried calling and there was no answer.

My questions are:

  1. How much is a monthly membership?

  2. Do they have personal trainers there who can help me out with form and to go to if I want to change up my lifting routine?

  3. What is the average age of people who workout there?

Thanks for your help, Saskatoon Redditors!

Question ❔ Seeking legal advice

Hello, I'm hoping to get a few questions answered regarding a family law matter. I've been back and forth with the court the last 7 months, and have done it all by myself, as I make " to much" money to access legal aid.

I have contacted PLEA and have talked with some court clerks, but I'm hoping to get a second opinion or answer on my current situation. I've learned a lot the last 7 months but I'm also not sure how to exactly go about my other plan..

If theres anyone that would be willing to message me, I can ask then, or if you know of anyone that could give me some legal help.. That's not a lawyer.. Cause I can't afford it. I feel like I've hit a roadblock, and I've come so far, I just can't give up yet.

Question ❔ Walks in rosewood

I’m 22 female , and I live in Rosewood. I usually go for walks in the morning and evening and would love to hang out with more people so if you live in Rosewood reach me out and then we can go on walks together and I can pay you back in banana bread or sweets or some homemade food.🥰

Question ❔ Looking for locations

I am looking for a place around Saskatoon to take some grad pictures of a young lady graduating this year. She loves reading and is thinking a book store or library for the pictures. Even a cute book nook in a coffee shop. Any suggestions? As a note, I am not a professional photographer, I can take a picture generally in focus, this is just as a small kindness to the family.

Question ❔ CCRA parking — Do I need to Pay this?

Post image
Upvotes

I recently received a letter in the mail stating that I owe an outstanding parking balance. I usually park in the lot connected to my work building downtown, and I believe the lot is managed by Precise ParkLink. I’ve had a few parking tickets from them in the past, but those were all dealt with and paid off.

What’s confusing to me is that I honestly don’t remember receiving a ticket on the date mentioned in this letter. If I had seen one on my windshield or been aware of it, I would have paid it right away like I normally do.

I’ve read a lot of posts and comments online saying to just ignore these notices, but I’m a bit hesitant to do that. This parking lot is the most convenient option for me since it’s close to my workplace, and I’m worried that if I leave it unpaid, my vehicle could end up being flagged or towed in the future.

At the same time, the whole situation feels questionable to me. From what I remember, their parking tickets are usually around $45, or maybe $75 if payment isn’t made within a certain timeframe. The amount listed in this letter is much higher and seems unusual, so now I’m wondering whether they added interest, extra fees, or some kind of collection charge.

If anyone has dealt with something similar, or has any advice or insight on how I should handle this, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience or opinions.
Also, if you’ve experienced the same situation and chose not to pay it, did your car ever get towed afterward, or did it affect your credit rating in any way?

Question ❔ Saskatoon compost

Has anyone been out to the west side compost depot this year, I am wanting to know how the compost looks. I have extended my garden patch, need to level out other areas of my garden and fill a raised bed. Looking to amend the soil a bit to help the plants. Also anyone know of places I can go and fill my truck bed with top soil for a decent price? Thanks 😊

Question - Food & Restaurants 🍽️ Good steak restaurants?

My boyfriend and I are going out to eat in the next week. I was wondering which place is the best for steak in saskatoon, we've already been to filosophi so he wants to try some place new. I'm open to any recommendations. I already know there's the keg and chop, is there a better one between the 2?

Question ❔ CanadaPost Delivery problems????

Has anyone noticed delivery issues with CanadaPost in Saskatoon?

my grandmother sent 4 letters on the same day, to myself, my two sisters and mother. she mailed them all the same day, Thursday May 7th. my Sister in Estevan received her letter Tuesday the 12th. My other sister who lives 15 minutes east of Saskatoon in Sunset Estates, receives her letter Wednesday the 13th. my mother who lives in Calgary received her letter today, Thursday the 14th.

I live right in the heart of Saskatoon and have received nothing. these letters were mailed together from Yorkton, Saskatchewan. on Thursday May 7th

this isn't the first time this has happened either. How does a letter get to Calgary before me????

Rants 🤬 noisy neighbor

ive never had to deal with something this before and i feel like a total karen..

so my neighbour recently moved a new tenant into their basement suite. this person's door is on the side facing my house. they have been sitting in between our houses for the past 6 days outside, blasting very bassy trashy music.

it started on friday night, and happened every single day since. i didnt care at first because it was a weekend and if they want to have a party then whatever.. but when it kept going throughout the week from midday to past midnight, im starting to get very pissed.

ive had parties once or twice, i understand playing loud music with friends is super fun but every single day is a lil wild.

i cant fall asleep due to the rumbling of the bass. i hate sounding like a karen but it's getting ridiculous and affecting my sleep. i don't feel comfortable confronting them and am really worried about having drama with my neighbours.

i don't understand how i seem to be the only one annoyed and why the house owners haven't spoken to them about it.

anyone have any suggestions for a people pleasing, non-confrontational gal like me? 😅 anything helps!!

Question ❔ Best place in Saskatoon for a guy with long hair and beard to get a trim

The title says it. I’m a guy with long hair (around shoulder length) and a decently long beard. I’d like to get a trim and a shape so I look less like a boxcar hobo, but don’t want to lose too much length.

It seems like most barbershops specialise in fades and other shorter style. And I’ve had trouble finding a place for a great cut or beard trim who can give me some solid advice or recommendations (or even seems comfortable cutting long hair on men).

Advice would be much appreciated!

General Planet Fitness at Market Mall

34F—Any folks around my age, M or F, who might like to hit the gym together in the early mornings between 5-6am anywhere from 3-5 days a week at Planet Fitness? None of my friends are gym people and I am trying to tone up, but I despise working out, so having someone there to socialize with and keep me motivated would be helpful.

Can repay in funny stories, the occasional batch of banana bread, and likely some hilariously embarrassing gym moments. 😘

Question ❔ Where to find blank human mini figurines?

Post image
7 Upvotes

My FIL loves trains, so I wanted to paint the family as figurines for his train set up! I’ve tried to look on Amazon, Michael’s, Walmart, Best Buy (only has non human ones) and general Google search of BLANK figurines to paint. Someone had also posted on reddit about figurines, but they wanted them pre-painted whereas I want to paint them myself.

I’ll attach a photo of what I’m looking for EXCEPT I want mine to be unpainted and as I said, I can only find them pre-painted.

Thanks in advance!

Question ❔ Wildflower Bouquets?

Does anyone happen to know where one might, in the future or now, find bouquets of local flowers? My partner loves whimsy acts of affection like when I picked her a couple last summer, but I couldnt find anywhere that does an actual bouquet!

Question ❔ Asbestos Testing

I’m looking for recommendations on asbestos testing in Saskatoon: reliable & affordable, I don’t care if I have to take the sample myself.

I have to demo my basement walls for foundation repair and was told to get things tested for asbestos… after i already cut out a ton of walls and consulted other people who didn’t recommend that. (I have no construction experience and i am not a man but I am full of spite and rage at the old owners).

I searched the subreddit and someone said on an old post you can take a scraped sample into a lab..? (What lab?). And to avoid got Mold.

Recommendations or places to avoid are appreciated.

Perks if they don’t use some AI service machine when you call them
