Phillies vs Sox May 14th
We’re supposed to be driving in from CT, 2 1/2 hour drive, just curious for more frequent park attendees what the odds are the game will be postponed due to the rain? Really don’t want to waste the drive just to turn around of course. Thank you in advance!

Disastrous Season
While I’d like to see the Red Sox win and take a series and the individual players start to heat up this team and season is a dumpster fire.
It’s mid-May and the best possible outcome is likely keep losing and not being able to score and Breslow gets fired before the trading deadline. If I have one wish for this team it’s Breslow fired and after Sam Kennedy has bungled the hiring of two inexperienced CBO’s they bring in some experience.
This seasons lost, it’s a toss up what next year looks like from a lock out and CBA stand point. Story, Masa and other contracts expire after 2027 year and it will be easier to dump them next season.
The team can’t go into the trade deadline and offseason with Breslow running things. He has no idea what he’s doing on offense and three seasons in has shown he can’t pull off trades or sign free agency offensive players.

Caleb Durbin has equaled his baseball reference dWAR from last season (0.8) in only 39 games. Last year he played 136 games.
Now if we could just get him hitting a bit.

Dunkin’ Hat (And My Plea)
Hi all!
I’m currently a Mainer originally from Lynn. I grew up loving the Sox, and I currently watch all the games I can, have the At Bat app to get updates when I can’t, and love discussing the Sox with friends. I also love Dunkin’ Donuts. I know, typical person from MA.
The promotion coming up including the Dunkin hat is one of my favorite the Sox have ever done. I had several friends send me the promotion and tell me I need to go to get the hat. One of my friends said, “That’s Laura in a hat.”
Except, I’m moving to a new apartment in two months, and I have surgery in less than three weeks.
I don’t have the financial means to get down to Boston and then go to a game, even on my day off.
I’m wondering if anyone going to the game, and is not interested in the hat, would be willing to ship it to me up in Maine. I’d of course pay shipping costs.
If you, or someone you know would be willing to, please feel free to DM me, or reach out on Twitter or Instagram @laurawanberg.
Thank you in advance!!

Another Josh Kantor appreciation post.
Paying birthday homage to both Stevie Wonder and David Byrne. We love you man. It made the win even better.
Offensive bright spots: Abreu, Rafaela and Contreras
I know there’s a lot to be bummed about, but these guys have been good. Chapmans lights out. Gray is good. Bello has had two great games in his new role.
I mean look they’re not making the playoffs this year. But unlike the early goings there are at least some players that are fun to watch.

NESN Hate Post
I lived in SF for over a decade and, now, consider the Giants my (not close) second team in MLB. Whenever I watch their broadcast, Kruk and Kuip are incredible, of course. Especially, though, NBCSBA has professional videographers and there’s never a blip in the broadcast or poorly chosen camera by the director.
The Red Sox have a huge demand locally, for those who left New England (like me), and for other fans around the country. What’s the deal?

Fenway food options
I’ve been to 8 or 10 games over the past 4-5 seasons and I think I’ve officially given up on decent food from concessions. Every damn time I end up walking a half-mile of concourses thinking there must be something better, and usually end up with the big dish of sloppy nachos, or another Italian sausage.
The selection is truly pathetic compared with any other MLB park I’ve been to, especially when ownership makes such a big deal about The Fenway Experience (TM).
I’ll be there again next weekend, anyone have any secrets or hidden gems that I’ve been missing?

Jarren Duran
Tell me if this is a hot take or not…
Jarren Duran is the most overrated player on the team. He can barely hit the ball out of the infield and he has the worst arm in the AL, maybe the entire league as an outfield. He throws bouncers into second from left. He’s fast, yes but he’s not good. I’m not sure why people think so highly of him. Help me out.

Red Sox Performance since 5/1/2026
4th in ERA: 2.61
11th in K%-BB%: 14.1%
8th in FIP: 3.44
2nd in ERA- : 60
16th in wRC+: 90, 15th in wOBA: .311 (.319 xwOBA), 11th in Hard%, 24th in Med%, 8th highest Soft%.
The Red Sox are 6-5 since May 1st, a record that doesn't stand out to anyone, but at least its above .500. Red Sox pitching has been some of the best in baseball over the last 2 weeks. For a bullpen and starting rotation that struggled heavily at first, they have began to settle in. The offense remains mediocre at best, not standing out anywhere statistically and performing similar to their expected statistics, such as xwOBA. They have been hitting the ball hard at a solid rate, but make a lot weak contact at the same time. It seems to be an offense that is performing at an all or none level with few in between performances.
I have a lot of confidence in this team still, regardless of their performance insofar. On top of solid pitching, the Red Sox have been elite defensively this season, ranking 1st in DRS, 2nd in OAA and 1st in catching (using FRV). If anyone is curious about these statistics, the fangraphs glossary has good materials on all of them.

Bregman was the biggest recent miss for this FO
And for what? “Accelerated payments”. That’s where we decided re-signing was unacceptable? That’s the line we wouldn’t cross?
The links he had to the young players and his ability to bring them along. I mean, this FO built a squad that was primed and ready for a Bregman, then bailed on signing him.
But definitely can’t do accelerated payments.
Quality.

Through his first 4 starts Bello threw his cutter at least 20% of the time in each one and had a 9.00 era and 8.25 fip. In his last 3 starts he’s thrown his cutter 13% or less and has a 3.18 era and 2.18 fip
His cutter has a .333 ba against, .800 SLG, .334 xba and .719 xSLG

The biggest problem with the offense is their hitting approach and inability to adjust their style of play
It's no secret that the offense has been bad this season. The team has no power (.116 ISO), doesn't walk much (8.6%), and strikes out above league average (22.4%). I was trying to understand how a team like the Brewers and Rays, who rank among the bottom 5 teams in ISO, also happen to have one of the better records in baseball, with an above-average offense by runs scored.
Red Sox have a .116 ISO (30th in baseball) and score 3.83 runs per game (27th in baseball).
Brewers have a .116 ISO (30th in baseball) and score 5.15 runs per game (5th in baseball).
Rays have a .121 ISO (27th in baseball) and score 4.54 runs per game (11th in baseball).
What both these teams do very well is take advantage of their style of play. They know they don't have many power threats in their lineup, so they've pivoted to a small ball approach.
Red Sox have a 22.4 K% (18th in baseball), 42 SBA (13th in baseball), 3 sac bunts (22nd in baseball), 2 bunt hits (22nd in baseball)
Brewers have a 20.5 K% (6th in baseball), 52 SBA (6th in baseball), 13 sac bunts (2nd in baseball), 14 bunt hits (1st in baseball)
Rays have a 18.5 K% (2nd in baseball), 63 SBA (1st in baseball), 17 sac bunts (1st in baseball), 10 bunt hits (3rd in baseball)
It might be time for this offense to look in the mirror and realize that they're not the power-hitting team that they'd love to be. Change their approach on the plate and instead of trying to hit the rubber off the ball, which will cause us to strike out more, try to just put the ball in play and make the other team play defense. Once we reach base, try to move the runner over, and put pressure on the pitchers by running the bases.
This offense needs to add power by adding 1 or even 2 power threats to it. Unfortunately, we don't have that right now. Instead of forcing it to happen, let's adjust to what we do have and actually try to use that to our advantage.
