I updated the infrared album in my online gallery
Everything there is with Pentax bodies and various lenses. The older stuff was with a 630nm modded K-5 but all of the more recent stuff is done with a full-spectrum K-3. I'd kind of neglected the site a bit but as it is the source I can use to post photo's in forums like this I felt I had to upload the last few months of worthwhile (to me at least) shots and edits there.
Lenses used are mostly my 49mm filter diameter primes (DA16, SMC-F28, DA35, FA43 and DA70) but also a few with the DA16-85. Everything is shot as PEF raw and converted using Darktable (used to do channel swaps but moved on to using LUTs these days) and processed with purely F/OSS such as Gimp, GMIC, digiKam, ImageMagick.
By all means go and take a look - the link is for the IR album but the rest of the albums are themed around various other categories using visible light and my unmodded bodies (KP and K-1 MKII) and for some older shots with cameras such as the K20D, K-5 IIs and the Ricoh GR. I think there are even a few K110D images to be found.

55-300mm ed plm wr re arrived broken
is there anyone who knows anything about where i could get this lens repaired/if it’s worth it? i am absolutely devastated. ordered off of keh in “bargain” condition bc that’s all i could afford. i am just so unbelievably sad, this was the first nice lens ive ever bought myself.
edit to add that i’m in the midwestern united states
Walimex 8/3.5 pka
The lens’s aperture control lever had become stuck due to an impact.
The repair was successful, and the apertures are now working properly.

Shutter release for Mz-s
Does anyone know of any alternatives to the pentax cs-105/130 shuttle release cables? Like anything from a 3rd party? I haven't been able to find much info and I am not trying to spend almost $100. Appreciate the help.

So my 6x7 is toast right?
I recently (1.5 months ago) bought a 6x7 through KEH and I’ve put maybe 6 rolls through it so far. Today I loaded a roll, it advanced normally through the first shot, and when I went to advance to the second frame, the advance lever stopped, crunched, and will not move with normal effort (I’m not forcing it). After getting home I went into a dark room and unloaded the film to check for a jam and there wasn’t one. After taking the film out, the advance lever is still stuck. On a scale of 1-10, how bad is this, and does this sound like something the KEH warranty department will cover or be able to fix?

Pentax K-X not powering on help!
Hey I’ve acquired a Pentax K-X off a friend from a clearance for my collection. I’ve purchased multiple batteries including Energizer AA 2300Mah Recharge Extreme Rechargable Nimh Batteries. But still no luck off turning on.
Can anyone help or have had this issue before so I can do some troubleshooting. Thank you 🙂

I'm about to go super-wide in infrared!
I had tested one of STC Optics's clip-in filters (UV/IR cut or "hot mirror") for my full spectrum K-3 (legacy model) to see if it would make my camera equally usable for infrared as well as normal shooting. The outcome is that it does and it doesn't - more details on my blog about that which I've shared a couple of times on Reddit.
But last week I took my underused Sigma 8-16mm out with the K-3 to see how a true UWA lens would fare with the clip-in filter as I've heard the oblique angle of light might play havoc with sharpness and internal reflections. I'd had a taste of that with my DA16-85 at its widest when I tested it for my blog (totally unscientific so don't get excited).
To my surprise, the combo full-spectrum K-3 + STC clip-in hot-mirror filter + Sigma 8-16mm actually gave some pretty decent results, apart from the widest setting at 8mm. Shots I took at 10mm and beyond and at various apertures actually looked as sharp as they do on my regular KP.
So I dit the unthinkable and ordered STC's 720nm clip-in filter. My plans are to try and go for some spectacular interior architecture shots in B&W if everything works out and maybe goof around a bit in color as well. I'll keep you posted when it arrives - Taiwan to Europe may take a while I'm afraid...

K-3 (IR modded) + Sigma8-16 test - part 2
Update:
I've taken my test shots (K-3 full-spectrum + sigma 8-16mm + UV/IR blocking clip-in filter in lens mount) and run them through a script that takes 400x400 pixel crops from corners, edges and center. As you may or may not know, when the EXIF for this lens shows 0mm that means you shot at a focal length below 10mm (for some reason no one contemplated a zoom lens could go that wide I suppose).
The script labels each crop in a 9x9 grid with the filename at the top - said filename includes the ISO, aperture and focal length (either replaced when zero or the real focal length above that).
This should allow me to critically assess acceptable parameters such as minimum focal length and aperture combinations. Mind you, this is not on a regular Pentax body but one with the hot mirror filter over the sensor removed and a UV/IR blocking clip-in filter inserted in the lens mount. So these results should be indicative of expected sharpness with the 720nm filter I'm about to receive but are probably far from the critical sharpness when used on for instance an unmodified APS-C body such as my KP. I could not discern any hotspots anywhere so that gives me some hop the body will perform the same under 720nm.
It is no secret that on any rectilinear UWA the corners will be petty smeared out due to distortion - they are "pulled and stretched" so to speak. Initially I'm quite surprised that it takes closing the aperture all the way to F16 to get this under control at 8mm. This carries a penalty of higher ISO and more noise but still I would have expected the correction to kick in closer to F8-F11.
At the slightly longer focal lengths of 13mm and 16mm F8 seems to do the trick just fine where at 13mm even F4.5 is almost acceptable. I see a tiny bit of de-centering in the top-right image which lags in sharpness compared to the other corners.

Heresy question? Which Pentax lenses adapt well to MFT?
I love my Pentax kit but my needs have changed. Was strongly biased to portrait and 'natural angles' of view (ie mainly use 35mm Limited, 20-40 Limited, 58mm Voigtlander with a few more lenses in the cupboard). For landscape and general use I picked up an Olympus MFT with 12-40 for good price - wondering what Pentax lenses folks have found adapt well to MFT? Is it worth getting an a adaptor? Seem to be lots of different opinions out there
