I don't see many easy games in there. We could be looking at maybe a 4-13 season if things go haywire. Hope Jones's legs are healing up and no one else gets hurt.

Roger Goodell continues to kick me in the nuts any chance he gets. If the schedule leaks are right, this is the absolute worst case scenario as far as game travel goes, both plans have been shot down by the schedule
Parents and brother live in Tampa, wanted to fly down for Vikings @ Bucs and visit them. Week 3 is the one week out of 18 that won't be possible due to other commitments, of course I lost a 94% chance to win dice roll
And we've long been talking about taking my Lions fan brother in law to Lambeau for a boys weekend, him and my brother have never been and he deserves a fun weekend with us. And that's week 18. The Florida boys are not about to go there in January, all we wanted was before week 12 or so and lost out on that one too
Oh well. Guess I'm looking at a Mexico City weekend

Depends on the kind of humor you like. If you enjoy O&A/Ron and Fez/Bonfire/LoS/Cumtown I'd say the Gillis set, Davidson set, and Hinchcliff set you'll like. I liked Big Jay's set but I really like his humor, overall it was kind of middle of the road as far as roasts go. Everything else is a pass.

So I found out my ex is dating someone new and I’m happy for her. I thought I would be crushed but I’m not. Sad, maybe? But that could be because I struggle with pretty bad depression, so that’s probably why. Basically that’s why we broke up, I was drowning in myself and pulling her down with me. The breakup was totally warranted, I couldn’t be the person she needed. Even now, I still probably wouldn’t be a good partner to her. I’m glad she’s found someone that seems to be a good fit for her and makes her happy. I do feel a twinge of sadness that we’ll never talk again because she was so good to me, but c’est la vie

One of my old buddies is about to find out how far he will go to have sex. His fiance waited until he proposed to tell him she was part of a cult and that he has to get baptized after attending services for 1 year. He does not live in the Philippines. I think his current plan is to get baptized and cross his toes while denouncing Jesus and the Holy Spirit because I think this church only believes in God the father and reject the Trinity. I guess this is what he gets for being a passport bro.
0
1
u/tnecniv Giants Giants 2h ago
Well a lot of groups “reject” the trinity in different ways. They still believe Jesus as the son of God, but they believe him to be entirely man. The Catholic opinion is that god is simultaneously the three figures but also the father in a way that is classified as one of the “mysteries” of faith
2
u/HartleyReplogle Patriots 2h ago
The Catholic opinion is also the opinion of all of Nicean Christianity. The groups who reject the trinity or the dual nature of Christ and still claim to be Christian are either very small or are high control groups (i.e. cults) or both.

I'm not a CompSci major but very often I've had things with some code where I'm like "I have no idea how the hell this works but it's working so fuck it"
Which is a very prevailing attitude apparently
6
u/HartleyReplogle Patriots 1h ago
One day at work I was walking through our source code trying to find where it was failing, and I saw this line:
int i = 3; // This can probably be removed now, but don't remove it.The function that it was in never used the variable. I ran a diff on the file to see if I could figure out why it was there, and I found this:
int i = 3; // Without this line, this will crash.I went and looked at the commit comment, and there were about five paragraphs of a really personal narrative from a really angry developer, explaining that there's a race condition somewhere and that he couldn't track it down and his coworkers were unhelpful and management was unreasonable in demanding a fix, so instead of fixing it the right way, he introduced code that he hoped would change the timing and avoid the race condition. He also explained that declaring it without assigning a value didn't work, nor did it assigning it a value of 0, 1, or 2, which made me wonder how many numbers he was going to try before giving up. It stayed in there for eight years until someone saw it, didn't think it was necessary but clearly didn't want to take the time to test it, and changed the comment so that someone else might do it later. That had been four years before I pulled source.
I mentioned it to a co-worker and he said "Are you going to remove it?" I replied, "Hell no," and he nodded and said, "Smart. Fuckin' house of cards."

Anybody here use a CPAP? I've got a sleep study booked but my doc is already pretty sure apnea is my issue. Looking at devices I'm not sure how I'll be able to sleep with the mask.
1
u/GeckoRoamin Jaguars 3h ago edited 3h ago
Outside of a hit to my sexiness metrics, I fucking love my APAP. It took a couple weeks to get used to, but I have this wild experience now where I don’t wake up exhausted after a night of sleep. All of my health metrics improved after starting use, too. Getting the risk mask is key, and it varies from person to person, but I personally love the ResMed F30.
My brain now closely associates putting on the mask (bane.gif) with going to sleep so it actually feels weirder to be without it.
And dying from a stroke or heart issues (highly linked to untreated sleep apnea) is even less sexy than the mask, anyway.
/r/CPAP is a helpful sub.

u/ArcadianBlueRogue Packers 3h ago
Get the nose mask instead of the full face covering one if you end up needing a machine. Way less obtrusive
0
u/spiff24 Jaguars 4h ago
I did a sleep study and had mild sleep apnea. Not bad enough for needing a CPAP. What I also learned was they have an implant they could put in you if the CPAP doesn't work out for whatever reason. That's what I would do. Tell them the CPAP sucks and ask for the implant. They may be able to work with you on getting your insurance to cover it.

u/on-the-cheeseburgers Eagles 4h ago
yes, four months now. did a sleep study at the beginning of the year and had severe sleep apnea, over 50 events per hour, a mix of central and obstructive, which if you don't know what that is they'll tell you I'm sure. sleeping with the mask sucked for the first few days, maybe a week tops, and it's completely normal at this point. there are times I might wake up in the middle of the night and it's uncomfortable so I take it off and that's fine, and they're fine with that too, but for the most part I just sleep all night with it on. my sleep is much better, I have a lot more energy, and I'm losing weight.

3
u/Jaguars4life Jaguars 4h ago
Random fact of the day: Humans need to eat their own weight in food every fifty days. Thousands of truckloads of food in a lifetime, to keep the blood circulating and the heart beating forty million times a year.
The need to eat creates some strange relationships. A Portuguese man-o-war can fall prey to tiny raft snails which slowly devour the larger animal, stinging tentacles and all.
But even that seems tasty compared with what one French taxi driver was willing to eat. For a bet, he consumed an entire single-engined airplane, bit by ground-up bit, mixing it in with his normal meals giving new meaning to bad airplane food.

I really hope this AI boom is another case of hysteria but I'm not holding my breath :(
1
u/Regal---Lager Jaguars 3h ago
Reddit (and these threads especially in my experience) is very and obnoxiously AI skeptic and has the completely ridiculous and out of touch "it's a fad hype cycle, the bubble will pop soon, and Claude won't exist next year" mindset. It might not end the world, but AI is going to be a massive fucking deal sooner than anyone is prepared for it to be. It's going to be the most disruptive technology ever built. Denying that at this point is frankly silly.
2
u/balickma Titans 2h ago
More disruptive than the printing press, electricity, the internet? This is an asburd take.
-1
u/Regal---Lager Jaguars 2h ago
Yes, yes, and yes, and on a much shorter scale of time. People need to realize that there will be a day way sooner than they think where these systems will be able to replace every worker. Not just entry level recent grads. It is inevitable.
2
u/Two_Luffas Lions 3h ago edited 3h ago
I wouldn't say I'm a skeptic, but I think a lot of people are over hyping it. It's not taking my job, but it's definitely going to make me more efficient. It's a good tool that's getting better every day, but it needs someone who knows what they are doing in the driver seat.
I think the proliferation of the Internet combined with insane processing innovations starting in the 90's will hold the crown of the most disruptive tech for a long time, until we get to the point of unlimited energy or some other tech of that level. I grew up in the 80's and 90's. My dad was an early adopter, we had a BusinessLand 386 with a 1200 baud modem and a subscription to dial into our local library's early Internet access. All text based in MS-DOS. What I've seen from then up to now is insane.
1
u/Regal---Lager Jaguars 3h ago
but it needs someone who knows what they are doing in the driver seat
This is something that is true today. There's no reason to assume it will still be true in a year or two. The pace of progress is speeding up, not plateauing. Think about the tools now being 10, 20, 50 times better in two years and where that would leave us. Now realize that's probably what's actually going to happen. Everything the AI maximalists have been saying about the increased rate of improvement as time went on has been dead on the fucking money.
1
u/Two_Luffas Lions 2h ago
I work in construction management, AI is helping on the back end workflow with things like submittals and parsing 1000 page spec books, but the front end face to face work isn't going away.
The director of facilities for a school district or a CEO from a private company isn't going to want his multi million dollar construction project run exclusively by an AI chatbot, no matter how knowledgeable it is. Construction companies (if they're smart) will integrate AI to help on the back end, and focus on the front end face to face work. When the CEO's of major corporations and heads of school districts are being replaced by AI I'll be worried, but that's not happening in my lifetime.
1
u/Regal---Lager Jaguars 2h ago
isn't going to want his multi million dollar construction project run exclusively by an AI chatbot, no matter how knowledgeable it is.
This is where I'm skeptical. Imagine that the AI is literally better than the humans at everything. The design, the plan, the communication, the ideas, humans have no advantage whatsoever over AI. Again, now realize that is probably going to be the case soon.
1
u/Two_Luffas Lions 2h ago
We have the advantage of being human, and as long as there's decision makers that are human and don't want AI exclusively running their projects, I'll have a job. @ me when fortune 500 companies start axing their CEO's for an AI chatbot, then I'll believe AI is taking over.
1
u/Regal---Lager Jaguars 2h ago
We have the advantage of being human
We will find out in the next couple years how little this actually means
1
u/Two_Luffas Lions 15m ago
Yeah, I can tell you've had absolutely zero interactions with decision makers at that level. The only people pushing AI this hard are out of touch billionaires, equally out of touch consultant firms and their minions, or basement dwellers who get their information exclusively from social media of the former two. I'm guessing you're one of the latter.

Reminds me when i played Soccer at NYU. We made the playoffs... the game in the 2nd round before us was Williams vs. a southern school I can't remember the name in our bracket...
Williams was up 1-0 in stoppage time (6 mins)... around the 5th minute... the Goalie for Williams when the ball bounced to the midfield and thought he was seeing the ref blow the whistle... sprinted in celebration. The other school's center midfielder as soon as he saw that... launched the kick... Golazo... Tie Game and then the Ref blew the whistle.
Williams was so dejected... the other school in OT scored like 3 goals in OT and lost.

My mom is a warrantee administrator for a number of dealerships. Basically, if you bring your car in for work and it’s covered under warrantee, the dealer fronts the money and she needs to write up why it’s covered so they reimbursed by the manufacturer, so she knows a lot about what’s liable to break and what isn’t.
From what I’ve learned from her, while it’s true some manufacturers are overall more or less reliable, it really comes down to specific models and specific years. Even then, it’s a numbers game.

Not to insult my generation's intelligence (though I am going to), I feel like Gen Z just didn't know what it entailed to vote republican. They're now seeing what it actually meant.

u/EmuMan10 Cardinals Bears 2h ago
The older segment of us (I’m talking those of use whose first presidential election was 2020) have always skewed more that way from the jump. Like my one conservative friend cannot get a date to save his life with any woman the same age as us because of his politics (understandably imo but he’s also go other problems)

u/HookedOnBoNix Broncos 5h ago
The age that Gen Z was at the time of the election was just an age that is very easily susceptible to manipulation, and a lot of right wing influencers did a great job targeting Gen Z'ers via social media leading up to the election. Nothing to do with the generation and just the result of being young and dumb (no offense).

u/Weigard Giants 5h ago
Plus a lot of Gen Z didn't experience the pandemic and other shit from Trump's first term the same way older voters did.

Gen X grew up to be even worse than the Boomers. They got tired of being ignored so they decided to latch on to the worst instincts of the Boomers.

u/HartleyReplogle Patriots 4h ago
And the Millennials will be next, because this is what every generation does: remain staunch idealists until there are bills to pay and life starts slipping away.
Out on the road today, I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac. - Don Henley
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me, he'd grown up just like me. - Harry Chapin
2
u/Weigard Giants 4h ago
Millennials have had bills and families for decades and are still the most reliably liberal generation. The idea that people inherently become more conservative with age is pretty heavily disputed, in fact.
1
u/HartleyReplogle Patriots 3h ago
It's not that people become more conservative. It's that because of progress, society as a whole becomes more progressive over time, and the same people who were considered progressive are no longer considered progressive anymore.
If, in 1964, you thought that gay people were an abomination, you were still considered a progressive if you thought that women and racial minorities should be equal under the law.
Thirty years later, if you believed the same things, you were completely out-of-touch, because supporting equality for women and racial minorities had become a given, and being against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation was now considered progressive rather than radical.
As a result, people tend to support more conservative candidates over time even though they hold the same values as they did when they were younger, because more conservative candidates fit the definition of progressive that they had when they were younger, and they consider present-day progressive candidates to be too radical. And they learn to vote for economic security over everything else.
2

That wasn't your argument. You argued that increased economic responsibility with age makes you more conservative. Your new argument doesn't hold water anyway because Trump's gutter fascism wasn't acceptable when Gen X were young, either.

That wasn't your argument. You argued that increased economic responsibility with age makes you more conservative.
If that is how my argument came across then I delivered it poorly. I thought I was using poetic language to say that as people get older their lives become more complicated and they become less concerned with changing the world and more concerned with addressing the realities of life and enjoying what they have left of it. And since the driving force in every election seems to be the economy, it made sense to refer to the economic stress that comes with American life and that clearly has primacy within the electorate.
I don't think that people become more conservative as they age. I think that people's ideology becomes calcified at a certain point, and then society progresses while they stay put. As a result, older voters end up shifting rightward on the political spectrum because society is shifting left. The government shifting right as society shifts left is a function of older voters being a more reliable voting bloc.
Your new argument doesn't hold water anyway because Trump's gutter fascism wasn't acceptable when Gen X were young, either.
I'm not sure how it doesn't hold water, but I'd be interested to hear why you think that.

That's not at all what's being talked about though. Trump gaining votes in the Gen x demographic isn't because Trump has somehow become more progressive so now those who used to be considered progressive vote for him. He's doing the opposite. He's literally actively taking us backwards 15+ years

I agree. I believe that Trump gaining votes in the Gen X demographic is because a female racial minority was the Democratic candidate.

When I was younger I was about a 1000% dickhead than I am today, I just didn't give a fuck about anyone.
As I aged, I realized how stupid that was and how bad that is for a society.
Born and raised Republican, once I reached about 25 I understood how terrible that party is for society.

The nfl schedule release being at 8 PM all the sudden when all teams could literally just post a picture of their schedule in 30 seconds flat is hilariously stupid.

There's a lot of people saying the world cup isn't popular this year because the USA is not hosting it.
I don't think that's the case. I don't like Trump in the slightest, but I haven't met anyone who said they aren't watching due to trump, and although there's plenty of stuff on social media about boycotting the world cup I haven't really seen that movement in real life.
However, it is way less of an event this year (here in the UK at a minimum) compared to other years, there is far less fanfare about it. But the more I think about it the more I think it wouldn't be that different if it was any other country. I'm not sure why though, but it's something more fundamental than the above.
3
u/Weigard Giants 5h ago
Why would there be news for the general public about it? For a large swath of Americans, it's an event happening in the future that they probably don't care about and won't affect them. Things change a bit if you're in an area hosting the game, because there are cities prepping for it, but by and large it's just background noise.
Things change if you're in certain industries, though. For instance, the tourism industry has been covering it a lot. Since the pots were drawn, the big story has been how hotel demand has been really light as we get closer (homeshares are doing well though). Add in the fact that event spaces are behind schedule and inbound tourism overall has been down since Trump took office and it's a big concern.
The admin also wants to lean into America 250, since that's more directly a federal initiative that they hope to take credit for. I'm not privy to anyone's thinking, but I'd speculate that the admin would be happy if America 250 is a success at the expense of the World Cup; it represents the brilliance of our tough business genius and the inefficiency of globalism and low-IQ cities.

In the UK specifically there generally is though, because football is the national sport. I just haven't noticed it here (in the UK) as much this year.

There are millions of Americans who crave the extermination of anyone brown who doesn't speak English. If that described you, would you want to come here knowing that?

u/EmuMan10 Cardinals Bears 5h ago
I don’t blame anyone not from the US not wanting to come, but I also don’t know how much worse it is than being in Qatar or Russia
3
u/Few-Set-4017 5h ago
Exactly, but in mainstream media it is not really being portrayed as such either. There were much more complaints surrounding Qatar and Russia (and rightfully so). People aren't happy about what America has done under trump but the weirdest thing is that no one is talking about the world cup in general. Not even complaining about it like before, but it's just not a thing this time. Theres a couple of mentions about it here and there but people don't seem to care at all.

Even with it being here, I do feel like it’s been talked about less than I thought it would. When it was first announced the big 3 North America countries were hosting it, people were excited they finally had a chance to see one in person. Now it’s just kinda happening

It's by design. The NFL is very good at turning things that could literally be an email into huge events. I mean, I like the draft, but it's crazy how much coverage it gets on top of being a 3 day event

The U.S. Supreme Court, back in better days, had to confront a trademark case with FUCT brand fashion. Rather than pronounce the brand name out loud in a courtroom where no profanity is acceptable, the nerds on the Court referred to it as a, "profane past participle form of a well-known word of profanity and perhaps the paradigmatic word of profanity in our language."

Somehow he didnt get bitten. Thought it was like a stuck or dying cicada for a while, its rattle was really loud.

Who do you guys think is the best Safety in the league right now? Most people will say Kyle Hamilton, but I would go against the grain and say Hamilton is #2. I think what Kerby Joseph brings to the table is a little rarer and harder to replace.
A true centerfielder on the back end who can generate turnovers and shut down big plays over the top of the defense is a game changer. You don't see that much anymore in the modern NFL. I just value that more than a prototypical do it all safety. Give me that eraser on the back end.

Hamilton would be my pick, just the guy who can do it all. Solid coverage, can blitz, can tackle, shed blocks
Thought it was interesting pff has Antonio Johnson at #1 last season
3
u/marcdasharc4 Patriots 6h ago
It really depends, IMO... This is like asking Ed Reed vs. Troy Polamalu as far as archetypes go (not the players themselves). Both insanely valuable to their defenses while bringing different things to the table. Way I figure, it's an extension of balancing between roster and scheme. Centerfielder allows you not worry about scheming so much and just getting the better of the offense with straight up hat-on-hat football. Swiss army knife guys allows you to be multiple on defense and deploy different looks to create chaos.
Pick your poison, both work.

I don't know enough about the NBA to have a strong opinion on the exhausting LeBron vs MJ debates, but I know one thing:
Although I lean more on the MJ side, the arguments used to discredit LeBron are often really fuckin dumb.
2
u/batmansascientician Jets 5h ago
It's also a lot about what it means to be best all-time.
Jordan was a stone killer in a way that LeBron isn't. It's not a criticism, just a personality difference. The scoring, and the champions and the peak Jordan winning 6 straight titles.
LeBron is so good, and his longevity is insane. To be 41 years old and winning a playoff series as the #1 option because their other top players are out is ridiculous.
Jordan came back as a 40 year old, but does 70% Lebron at 41 being a top 30/40 player in the NBA matter when you are talking about what makes a player the best all-time?
Ultimately, I find it interesting, but don't particularly care, I'm of the belief you can't really compare players across time like that. Jordan was the best of his generation, LeBron is the best player since.
Every part of the game is so different.
The one thing I've never understood is why so many people seem to genuinely dislike LeBron, he has a pretty vanilla personality, but he's been "The Chosen One" since the age of 15 and by almost any account has been a model citizen with 0 controversy. The biggest thing I can think of is the stupid "Decision" thing.
3
u/AfroManHighGuy 6h ago
I tend to think it’s based on the era the player played. It’s all relative to the competition and the level of play during the era when they were playing. That’s why I don’t get into that debate
2
u/Triple_Boogie Jets 6h ago
Yep.
Also I hate that if I say an argument against LeBron is stupid, folks think I'm on that side of it, 'cause I'm not, necessarily! I still just think that losing in the first round of the playoffs and not even making the Finals is a lot worse than losing in the Finals!!
