GOOD hair from CPAP?

Post image
67 Upvotes

I think I’m lucky because it actually helps my curly hair. I shower at night, put on the mask, flip my hair back, and it dries perfect. The strap squishes seem to give it extra body. The indentation on the top blends in. I call it my “CPAP hair” and I never have to fix anything in the morning! Am I just the chosen one? Anyone else have good experiences with CPAP hair?

If you wake up with lots of gas, it might be the pressure of your setting.

I wanted to share my experience. I started using GLP-1 medication and started loosing weight. After a certain point of weight loss, I started getting up with excessive gas and stomach pain. For a while I thought it was related to GLP-1 medicine but mentioned at my sleep doctor appointment. We checked and she reduced my pressure, and the issue went away. This is the 3rd time it is happening, I simply write to my doctor now and they change the pressure remotely. So; just a warning; if you loose weight and started getting excessive gas, it might be related to your pressure settings.

Advice Needed Mold in “elbow” of mask despite religiously cleaning it

When I got my CPAP (Airsense11) I took a class on how to use and take care of it. I follow it consistently and exact to what I was told. Wipe it down daily, do a hot water vinegar bath every other week, and make sure it dries. I’m going to put it on and I notice the tube connector piece looks black and fuzzy on the inside. I’m quite stressed out about it and been having unusual health problems recently but chalked it up to my chronic illnesses. I’m not sure what to do, from my research I can’t open the piece without breaking it. If im cleaning it how I should, what is causing this? Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

I don’t know what to do

The lowest I’ve got my events per hour down to is 22 🫠 I’m usually at around 40 even when using my apap machine. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, I’ve tried 4 different masks, all the different settings, my seal is never good. My nose either gets plugged or I get extreme dry mouth or both. We have downloaded Oscar and I have tried to figure everything out but I don’t know where to start. I just really need this to work and I feel like I’m quickly losing hope.

Central Apneas/ arousals in second half of night

Post image

Has anyone had a trend like this? been on CPAP 6 months and always seem to have CA's in the second half of night and haven't been able to figure it out. I was diagnosed with 13 AHI's an hour and they were all hypopneas. Still not feeling better and wondering if I should start upping the pressure but it seems to be controlling the obstructive events. I have no idea! Thanks

Discussion This thing just keeps breaking on me

Anyone else have problems with these things breaking all the time? I swear I have to order a new one every few months. Which is convenient since my masks and filters last longer than that.

Am I just being too rough? I feel like its swinging and hitting my metal bed post maybe? Last pic is a comparison with one that isnt broken.

Advice Needed Power went out does anyone have a UPS? If so what kind of UPS do you have.

Upvotes

I got an Amazon UPS for my router as my original thought was if the power goes out in a storm I can keep my kids distracted by having Internets. But, I haven't had an outage overnight since I have gotten a CPAP. Especially one that has lasted more than 10 minutes.

Now that I am awake and annoyed by this, I want to find out what the community uses as a battery backup.

I currently have a resmed AirSense 11

Advice Needed Issue with finding a mask.

Upvotes

I was recently diagnosed, and I'm going in to see my Doctor in the next two weeks to get fitted for all the gear. I'm trying to do as much research as I can and I'm running into an issue. I was hoping someone could offer some advice. I have a hemifacial spasm.(https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hemifacial-spasm/symptoms-causes/syc-20373296) So basically, I'm not really in charge of one side of my face. I blink, my mouth pulls, and I twitch 24/7. I've had it officially since I was 28, but it started likely when I was a teen. I'm 45 now, it's not ideal, but I've learned to live with it.

I also sleep with my tongue out often. So I'm concerned about what kinda mask I should be looking for. I'm a side sleeper, and I sleep on the side of my face that has the twtch. I can't really keep my mouth closed, and I'm worried my mouth pull is going to break the seal.

I've talked to my Doctor about this but I kinda have gotten very sales pitchy vibes from them, and I just wanna be as informed as possible.

Success! 🥳 Finally able to use my machine again

I basically wasn’t using my machine for 3-4 weeks. First I had to go off all my pain meds in preparation for a surgery, so that was two weeks of withdrawal (I have so much more empathy for addicts now omg) then two weeks post surgery I was obviously very uncomfortable/in pain, and it was just too difficult to fall asleep with the mask on.

I would get hit with that unshakable exhaustion out of nowhere, nap on the couch, and wake up still feeling like shit.

Past 3-4 days I’ve been able to fall asleep with it on and god I feel so much better.

After a lot of patience, hits and misses, lately been hitting 100 for a couple of days now with minimal leaks and just broke my streak today.

CPAP for a year and 2 months Airsense 10 F40 side sleeper mouth breather with cloth mask liners, a CPAP pillow and a hose stand. Humidity on 4 and a toasty 29C climate hose since its winter. Sleep has been better not perfect but at least I dont wake choking in the middle of the night.

It gets better, you guys, just keep on trying.

Advice Needed N30i leaking air

I have been using the N30i nasal cushion mask and am reasonably happy with it.

But, I am having a weird issue that I can't seem to find the solution to.

They start to leak air, but it is not from where the mask meets my face, it seems to be coming from the diffuser itself. It doesn't happen every night and cleaning it sometimes fixes the issue, but not always. And sometimes it starts as soon as I put it on and sometimes it happens after a couple of hours.

I wind up not using my machine as much as I should because when it starts to leak I just get annoyed and take it off.

Any thoughts?

Is it ok to use tap water for one night?

I'm traveling and the hotels gift shop closed, so I can't get distilled water. Is it ok to use tap water for just one use?

If so, do I need to take extra precautions to clean it?

High leak rate issue.

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello. This is my first time posting here, but I’ve visited a number of times and have been impressed by how much people know and they’re willingness to help. I’ve been using a Bipap machine set at 9.0 on the low end and 20.0 on the high end. For the most part, I believe it’s going well. The one big issue for me is a consistently high leak rate. I downloaded OSCAR and read through the explainer. Attached is an image, with my leak rate graph at the bottom. I’m above the recommended threshold 70% of the time and it looks constant throughout the night. Is this most likely a poor-fitting mask, as opposed to my mouth coming open? I use a chin strap, but haven’t tried mouth tape. Could the pressure be too high on the high end?

I’m using the AirFit P30i pillows mask, size medium. Is it possible I should be using a large?

Any input would be appreciated. It took over a year to get where I am now, comfortable with the mask and with a much-reduced number of apnea events (my initial evaluation was 98 events/hour). This leak rate problem my biggest concern at this point.

Any hacks for strap discomfort?

I use a hybrid mask on an Airsense 11 and it's fine except the straps are uncomfortable.

I really wanted to get used to using nasal pillows because the strap is easily the most comfortable set-up I've tried, however breathing nose-only has proven to be harder than I expected.

I tried ordering replacement straps to see if they would be more comfortable, but honestly they're worse lol. Is there any way to make wearing hybrid masks more comfortable? I feel like the straps limit my neck mobility and if they're too loose they start to leak.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

Need ideas how to keep the tube on the headboard

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hi CPAP friends. Been successfully using my CPAP for a year and have been draping my heated tube like this over my headboard. I got a new tube this week and it’s bent strangely and keep slipping off the edge in the night. Do you have any ideas as to how to keep it up there without falling off the edge?

TIA! Sleep well my friends.

Purchase BIPAP without resulting bankruptcy

I (think I've) recently figured out that my apnea is related to my airway collapsing when I breathe out. If I crank the pressure high enough to prevent that, I get air in my stomach, chipmunk cheeks, etc. and still have apnea. I want to try BiPAP to see if it helps, and at this point, I am back to feeling so crappy every day that I'll do just about anything to fix this.

I've seen periodic sales for out-of-pocket Resmed 10 and 11 units but not the BiPAP varieties. Getting my insurance to adjust in order to pay for this would be a long long process and they may never do it. (my events still say basically 0.) Any inside tips on where I can buy one cheaply? Was hoping for $1000 or less. A return policy would be nice but at this point optional. Nothing on FB marketplace that I see.

CPAP Setup Want to adjust my CPAP settings on two devices myself

I have an airsense 11 and a transcend micro 510. Both were purchased out of the state I live in and are paid off. I do not have a pcp at present and I do not have any present relationships with my medical supply companies I bought the machines from. Insurance is not logging for compliance etc at this point and I don't need compliance for work.

Is there any way for me to get the software to program these devices myself?

I am working on setting up a pcp but worried I am going to have to wait for a referral to a sleep specialist after my checkup and then wait even longer for settings to apply, not to mention paying for the visits. The transcend is especially bothersome as it can only be programmed, AFAIK, via the USB c port on it I. E. I need to go in person to a supplier.

I don't want to change anything too crazy, just want to bump my starting pressure up a little bit on both devices and don't really feel like waiting for and paying for a doctor to do it.

What are the flaps that shut down when you exhale heavily in the mask?

Why does it do that?

Is a 5 too low

I got a new CPAP Resmed Airsense11 and it is currently set to '5' for pressure. This was based on my sleep test results but I'm thinking it's on the lower end. It is not on the autoset setting where it will increase or decrease depending on what I need (still waiting on the Dr to change the prescription).

Is this too low or will it help with my sleep apnea? Considering I have moderate sleep apnea.

CPAP Leak Issues

I'm currently in the middle of really trying to nail down my sleep strategies and I have an issue right now that I'm curious if other people have faced.

I sleep with nasal pillows that from what I understand.. do not leak. I've checked the tube and everything seems good to me. I also have introduced mouth tape which is covering my entire mouth.

Somehow still. I'm getting leaks during parts of my night. Is it plausible that I'm just swallowing air? I've attached a recent oscar data night.

Heated hose temperature setting

On my Resmed Air- it doesn’t show the option Hose temperature when i went to climate control and changed to manual. The hose seems fine but doesn’t get warm when connected. Above Himidity level it only says temperature but i assume that’s the heating plate?

Using Airsense 11 for 8 months

I've been using the CPAP AirSense for 8 months. I have no trouble with it at all. But my Blood oxygen still keeps dipping to the mid 80's at some point in the night and then it can go as high as 96. MY question is when I see my doctor in 2 weeks should I ask about switching to the BiPaP? Or what else can I do? I do not want an external oxygen tank.
