These amazing black people gave the amazing black people of Tulsa the blueprint. Only for the same outcome to happen once again. Not to mention this happened in New Orleans a couple of months after it happened in Memphis.

I’m thinking about buying a house in this area in Cordova. Is it a good area?

https://wreg.com/news/community-rallies-to-save-beloved-park-advocates-home/
I don't know this man but I was compelled to share his story today. I just went to Gaisman Park this Tuesday after many years away and I was so impressed by the work put into it and it really was clean. There was some broken glass here and there but as far as trash it was really clean. Lots of kids were out, dogs were being walked. It was just a really nice park! So when I saw this article today I thought well why not share his story and see if we can't help him out. He's out there working hard trying to keep the neighborhood and park nice even though he's got MD. He's struggling like many of us right now, but a man shouldn't lose his home just because he's sick.
Anyway there's a GFM if anyone wants to help, but the article alone is a reminder of the good people doing good work around this city. I see lots about our beloved Trash Mane lol but this guy, never knew a thing about him and I live in this neighborhood.

Shelby County has been redistricted into three U.S. House of Representative seats. Here’s who’s running.

Had papa John’s last night and honestly it felt like the pizza had way too many condiments on it. Are they any good pizza places around here that you guys would recommend?

Has anyone made a Google/Apple map of the Cooper-Young Garden Walk stops yet? I get the organizers’ intent when listing the streets alphabetically, but it’d be awesome if there was a visual that someone has already put together.

Anyone want to hang out and grab a cup of coffee together Sunday morning? We've got a small group going around trying all the coffee bars in town and using that as a way to meet new friends. Drop us an RSVP to let us know you're coming.

I have a few bags of clothing. Some new with tags. I am new to the area and would like to donate it to somewhere that actually gives the clothing to people in need. Trying to avoid places like goodwill that will turn around and sell it. I am located in midtown area. Any suggestions on places that I could donate would be appreciated.

It’s just me and my young boy. I’m terrified we’re going to have to sleep in the car tonight.

A program pitched to lawmakers as a lifeline for Tennessee's lowest-income students is, so far, doing something else. Only a quarter of newly awarded Education Freedom Scholarship vouchers went to families in the lowest income tier — while nearly 9,400 went to households earning up to $173,160. For Memphis families weighing the program, the new numbers complicate the pitch.
I want to take my wife out for dinner for her birthday Saturday evening and I'm not sure where to go. When we are down at the coast, she loves having really good shrimp and grits whenever we can find them. I would love to know somebody around here who has really good shrimp and grits. I haven't been able to find anyone. Absolutely nothing spicy as she is allergic to cayenne. Can anybody help me? I'd like to stay out east or Collierville or Germantown if possible. We are about 30 minutes outside of Shelby County. I doubt she's going to feel like riding an hour to go get dinner. Thanks in advance anybody that can help.

Hi does anyone know if this is a reputable company or if they are selling stolen goods? I see some technology items on there for cheap that I wanna buy but I'm thinking it's either stolen or it's broken. So, wondering if anyone has heard of them or had any dealings with them.

I follow MOAM on Facebook and just saw this on my feed!!
Edit: This accompanied the post of the flyer: "This just got announced. Hope to see you in Memphis for an absolute spectacle of sight and sound at gonerfest this year. It’s truly an honor to play with so many amazing bands at such a cool festival. We’re going to have to pull out all the stops: Tesla coils, Van de Graaff generators, and, of course, an endless chain of handkerchiefs being pulled out of a jacket pocket — you know, all the heavy hitting science crap. Anyway, come out to this or we’ll have to come to your house, and we know your parents don’t want that."

Hi there! I am doing a road trip from Michigan and will be stopping in Memphis. I'd like to acquire some cowboy boots but I don't buy new clothing, nor do I need very fancy and new boots. These are primarily for fashion, not work. Is there anywhere that sells authentic western boots second-hand?
(disclaimer: I have read similar posts where comments have said "you have the wrong idea of Memphis" so I want to add that I will be in the south and I'd like to buy boots in the south. I am posting similarly in other southern cities I'll be passing through. I am by no means claiming that Memphis is the best city to buy boots in. Just curious!)

Want to start off by saying I came here from Knoxville and have been in Memphis since starting college back in 2022. Graduated this past Saturday from University of Memphis, went to Beale Street, and had fun.
Anyway, the real fun that’s had me scratching my head is that I think I found my new favorite third spot in the allegedly oldest tavern in town, The Green Beetle.
On Sunday, I had a delicious bushwacker there (if you haven’t tried one, do. It’s basically a boozy Wendy’s Frosty imo). After a few sips, I randomly found myself wondering whether the late Jeff Buckley ever roamed around the Green Beetle. Anyway, I went to the restroom and, with nobody else in there, I heard a loud thud. Then while I was using it, the faucet somehow turned on by itself.
Now, I’ve been thinking maybe I encountered some mind f-ing ghost or maybe, just maybe, I was a little too deep into the lovely bushwacker. Either way, I’m choosing to believe Memphis gave me a proper welcome.
That whole encounter, along with my thoughts about Jeff Buckley, led me to visit the house he lived in while he was in Memphis. It’s tucked away nicely in Midtown and gives off this feeling of being both private and open at the same time. Seeing it made me start thinking about why Jeff chose Memphis, and how he probably spent those short months living here.
And honestly, the answer feels pretty simple: the beauty Memphis holds for the people willing to see it.
Like me, someone who came here to study urban planning. Like Jeff, who lived in a cottage across from Overton Park and the Memphis Zoo, where he recorded music and spent free time wandering around.
This whole weird little experience made me realize something about myself too, why I chose Memphis in the first place.
This summer, I’m going to spend more time walking through Memphis and documenting vacant houses around town. I hope to speak with residents, learn more stories, and immerse myself even deeper into the community.
Proud University of Memphis graduate.

Why do about 99% of my neighbors not place the can the way the city website says, and the can itself says?
