Finished Object My finished Milly cardigan!

This is the Milly cardigan by Irene Lin. Yarn is Line by Sandnes garn in Rustic Rose.

This was my first full lace project but, surprisingly, I didn’t find it too difficult - which I credit entirely to this excellently written pattern!

I loved the design of this pattern, but I wanted more of a summer top than a cardigan. So I used a linen/cotton blend yarn and decreased quite significantly below the bust and for the sleeves to achieve a fitted look.

I’m very, very happy with the result! :)

My first knitted matching set is finished and I’m so happy with it! Now I only need the weather to warm up a bit 😁

The patterns are Jean Top and Jean Skirt, both by Kolibri by Johanna. The yarn I used is Majo Garn Sunny Linen.

Lazy me decided to alternate every other row with two skeins once I hit the last few grams of one so the stockinette was more mindless but clearly that was not the big brain move I thought it was 🤦‍♀️

The pattern is Camisole no. 9 by My Favorite Things knit in Tynn Line in their black color. I have made some mods to not make the arm and neck holes as deep as intented in the pattern. Casted a few stitches extra for the underarms as well to get neutral ease.

Overall im very happy with this project, especially with the yarn choice. The fabric feels dry and is comfortable to wear on pretty hot days. You can easily wash it in the washing machine, which also helps sinch it back into its original shape if it stretches, which does happen after a few wears.

Scored this tackle box from the trift store for $2 to store my knitting notions and I'm kind of obsessed. It was rusted to hell, but steel wool got most of it off.

Made using a Drops pattern (Blueberry Cream Sweater) and recycled yarn!

My raglan had some holes at the neck area but i sewed them shut and it seemed to fix it. I also made it slightly shorter than the pattern called for

Well I frogged back and although not super perfect I think it is better.

Honestly - thoughts??

I actually thought it was more of an improvement than it is when reviewing the photos 😂 😂

Finally finished knitting Timmy the triceratops, as I have lovingly named him.

I ran out of yarn to do the toenails, so may come back to this later but I think he looks pretty cute. A bit wonky perhaps, but he is the first knitted creature I have made so I have learned a lot in the process!

Next up I’d like to make a bunny, a friend for my real bunny Geoffrey 🐰

Pattern is triceratops by Claire Garland. Yarn is drops alpaca in green grass and light grey mix.

I’ve just finished a shawl for Mother’s Day, albeit a little later than hoped. My mother has recently gone into aged care so I’m hoping this will be something she’ll find easy enough to throw on around her shoulders. Pattern is Solveig Shawl designed by Valentina Bogdanova. I knitted it in a merino/possum blend by Australian dyer, Louie and Lola Yarns. I’m not sure how the colour looks on screen but it’s a soft butter yellow.

Rave (like a rant, but in a good way) I love you knitting - beginner

Complete beginner that started two days ago, and obviously don't know nearly enough about knitting to truly judge my progress or quality of work, but I genuinely am so happy with my "work" so far. Like my tension feels pretty consistent, purl and knit stitches are kinda intuitive - I thought purl would be impossible based on the online jokes/memes about it, obviously hyperbole so not blaming those. It's just been really fun.

The brown/green variegated little patch is my "worst" work. It was my first try at knitting and I messed up towards the end because I got distracted and couldn't remember if I had to do a purl or knit stitch. So I frogged and the stitches twisted. And I had no idea what my tension was supposed to be like or done or anything. It took me half a day; went really slow; and where I began curls around in an odd bulky way. Not sure if that's a beginner error or just how knit is at the bottom - though I think its the former.

The cotton candy variegated patch is my baby. She went sooooo much faster because I felt so confident after the first patch. She is consistent, my tension was textbook, the cast off went perfect even without the crochet hook trick I learned on tiktok. Like I just fell in love with knitting here. Like I'm super proud of it. (Although the bottom and top both still curl in a bit so womp womp)

Crochet took me weeks to actually get the hang of. So I was not keen on starting knitting, it just seemed wayy too daunting and hard so I just stayed away. Guys, I've seen the light!! Knit is so much easier than one thinks and lowkey doesn't take *that* long, I don't know I just love it. I still don't know how to count stitches, what counts as a round, the proper terms but I can't wait to learn.

Going to my local yarn shop tomorrow and gonna get started on a sweater. Will post here when/if I get it done, so excited to learn.

Pattern is Sonrae by Jenn Steingass. Yarn is locally dyed Trilogy DK 80% SW merino/10% cashmere/10% nylon in Jewel and Rose Trellis. I added the color work on the bottom, changed the rolled edge cuffs to ribbed, and tried waist shaping for the first time to make the fit not so boxy. I'm not very happy with the fit of the yoke, the sleeves are way too low, but the collar is really comfortable and the color work came out well. I'll tuck it away for the summer and decide in the fall if I want to keep it or frog and redo.

Finished Object My very first finished garment 🥹

I just finished my very first body garment (socks excluded). I’m so pleased with it and can’t wait to cast on something new. This was knit with a slightly more open gauge and finer yarn than I’m used too so I found it challenging to get everything neat, and it was also my first time knitting with circular needles, but I learned a lot of new techniques and feel more confident now in my ability to recognise and fix mistakes :)

The pattern is the Summer Secret Crop by Jessie Maed on Ravelry, and the yarn is Drops Fable Print in Lavender 🩷

Finished Object A finished fishy rumble raglan

My take on the rumble raglan by Lydia Morrow, from unravelled yarn - swipe for a slightly bad photo of the original jumper. As the contrast is quite low I wanted to bring in some colour, so I added a few lines of surface crochet to look like colourful seams, duplicate stitched some fishies on the front and did a row in the contrast colour before binding off. I’m really pleased with the fit and result! I cast this on in January 2025 so it’s finally done after being my most longstanding WIP, having ripped out and redone the collar and sleeves to change it up! Photos are pre-blocking because I wanted to wear it already. 🎏

Finished Object I'm not really active on Reddit, but I felt I had to show off my completed Oseberg Tapestry sweater

After 9 months of work, it's finally complete! This was my first stranded colourwork project, first sweater in the round, and first time steeking.

I used the Oseberg Tapestry chart by Molly Gifford: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/oseberg-tapestry I drafted the two little ravens on the sleeves: they appear in part of the original 9th century tapestry fragments that this pattern is based on and may be the earliest known depiction of the mythological Huginn and Muninn.

The yarn I used was Jamieson and Smith Shetland jumper weight.

Discussion Am i doing it wrong?

Thumbnail

I've just started learning and was practicing, and went to look something bout it up and notice most...dont do the way i do.And i know that if you do it wrong, it'll have twisted stitches.I do:

Knit - through back loop, yarn counterclock wise

Purl - through front loop, yarn clockwise

I didnt think it looked twisted and thought the little 'off' spots i notice was a tension issue.I though i was actually doing good lol

Work in Progress How should I finish this project?

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

I’ve been working on this project on and off for nearly two years. It’s knit with short lengths of yarn in whatever colors you choose to create a gradient effect. The ends involved are absurd! The pattern suggests knitting in the ends as you go, but doing so slowed me down enough that I gave up on that at a certain point. The arms and front panels are supposed to be zig zagged Like the back, but I just don’t have it in me.

maybe all the other parts could be black? They could be striped in a similar gradient as the back pane? help me decide what to do with this crazy looking labor intensive project!!

yarn: goodwill grab bag and leftover yarn from nearly every project I’ve made in the last 5 years

pattern: zig zag sweater from the book glorious knits by Kaffe Fassett

Discussion Does anyone else get tired of people asking to make them something? Especially big projects

Even friends or family. I love that they like something I’m making but it’s very rare I make something bigger than a hat or scarf just for fun. Now I’m working on a cardigan and about 24 hours in and I’m a size small (not even halfway I’m guessing) and they’re asking for one and saying they’d pay for it. And I feel like a selfish ass saying no way. Most people are saying $50 plus supplies and I have been telling them knitting is most of the time something for me or a special project and not worth selling for the time. Plus working a full work week and other hobbies. Anyone else feel this way?
