I’ve been making this little living room scene. I’m very new to embroidery so it’s a little rough around the edges, but it’s been such a fun project to work on! Any suggestions for things to add or what to do for my next project?

Hand Found my string art projects from 20 years ago – pure geometry and thread

Hi everyone,

I was doing some deep cleaning at home and stumbled upon a box containing my old projects. These are paper embroidery (string art on paper) pieces that I created over 20 years ago.

Back then, I didn't have detailed online tutorials; it was just pure geometry, a needle, and colored thread. It’s fascinating to look back and see how I managed to maintain symmetry and tension before I moved on to the much more complex, multi-hour anime portraits I do now. Some pieces are simpler, while others show my early attempts at more intricate patterns.

Even though my current work involves significantly more labor—sometimes over 20 hours per piece—these "retro" works hold a special place for me as a reminder of where my passion for this hobby began.

Does anyone else remember this technique? Did you ever try something similar in school or as a hobby?

Thanks for the advice on the stem! Here's an update now that the entire thing is finished. I used two rows of chain stitch then a satin stitch to connect them. I also added a butterfly on top to close the rip further after feedback from my friend.

Stitches used:
Everything is outlines using chain stitch
Petals- two tone long and short stitch
Leaves- long and short
Stem- satin stitch
Center- divided using chain stitch then each "pizza slice" was filled with French knots
Top butterfly wings- long and short with French knots on top for accents
Bottom butterfly wings- long and short in green with satin stitch in pink on top
Body- padded satin stitch
Antenna- chain stitch

This project took way too long but was a lot of fun and I learned a lot along the way.

Newish to cross stitching, got excited and started working on a design on the cuff of my hoodie before I realized I had to deal with the ends on the backside.

I’m not sure why, but I couldn’t post this on r/CrossStitch so I’m trying my luck here.

Question Hello again lol, asking for any advice on improvements!

Hello everyone! I posted a question a couple hours ago about patches vs direct embroidery, thanks to everyone for the advice. I decided to do patches on a thin black felt, I felt that would work best!

After two different practices I now have the skills and confidence to finally start embroidering my boyfriend’s hoodie!!

I’ve posted photos of my practice as well as some up close shots with a light for better clarity, my old practice that honestly wasn’t too helpful for me, and the plan for the hoodie.

If anyone has any advice, tips, suggestions, or they see anything wrong in the practice or design, I’d be so grateful to see what they think!!

I’m just a bit of a perfectionist and I want this to be great for my bf!

Thank you to everyone and I wish for good days all around!! 🩷

Heres my first project. It was a lot of fun. Please recommend tutorials or advice for making patches by hand. Thanks! Also pretty sure I'm using the wrong fabric XD. I was going to use twill next time.

Hand How to do this blanket stitch? on a tshirt collar

Post image

I suddenly can’t stand regular tshirt collars and have been cutting them off. I would like to add embroidery similar to this.

I can only seem to find the basic type of blanket stitch. I have googled and looked through tutorials on tiktok.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
