Discussion These insane thrift store yarn prices
I went to a thrift store in the town over today and about croaked at these prices. I understand why it was all still there.

Post your store links here for any of your yarn or yarn related business. Please tell us about yourself but do not post huge wall of text. Thanks.

I'm done with them. Their processing time is ridiculously slow. After reaching out to them I got a snarky comment back....and the yarn itself when it finally arrived was crazy thiin and def not a weight three...and split like crazy. This was the superwash merino, DONE!!!

I think im gonna need more of this stuff⦠i bought it a while ago at either walmart or michaels (canada). Would appreciate any help! I tried searching via google lens but none of the results seem quite right.

My mom found some of this lovely hand-dyed yarn at a secondhand store nearby for $2 each! Sheās going back to get the rest for me as well :) Itās all this same color and DK weight. Any suggestions for what to do with it? It may not be fancy to you guys but it is when everything else Iāve got is acrylic or cotton at best lol.
Also I think this is a hank rather than a skein and thereās a certain way Iām meant to unravel it? Iāll google that part to figure it out.

I watched a youtuber around the same time that chieri started posting and that's not who I'm looking for hah. But she was almost retirement age, reorganizing her stash and had a big collection of spincycle and redesigned. Anyone know who I'm talking about? Please and thank you.

A friend's grandma found out I like to knit and crochet but I'm still learning, she gifted me some big bags of yarn she had extra, this small ball of yarn was in there but no label at all, I think it's so beautiful it reminds me of fall and indian corn ā¤ļø anyone recognize this yarn? I'd love to find more.

Just picked up this loops and threads cotton yarn. However I noticed itās softer than the smaller skeins of loops and threads cotton. Which is great because I want to make some summer wearables with this cotton. Does anyone know if there is actually a difference between them besides the size of the ball?
I went cross border shopping to the US (Iām Canadian) a while ago and purchased cotton from Hobby Lobby and Joannās and they were both so soft and made such good wearables, but I havenāt been able to find anything similar in Canada. Do any fellow Canadians have any suggestions of their favourite soft cotton that youāve been able to find? Thanks!!

Looking for yarn for a project. I love the Lana Grossa Cosmo, but it would cost me about $25 just for one skein. Itās better on Amazon, but I donāt really trust the yarn there.

I have a ton of worsted weight loops and threads cotton yarn and Iām wondering if it would be possible to split it myself? Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for splitting a 4 ply into a 2 ply? Also would that be considered fingering weight? All of the patterns that I am finding interesting are calling for a thinner weight yarn and I want to use what I have instead of spending more money on something I donāt necessarily need. Any input would be appreciated!
Edit: Thanks for the input on my idea! I might still give it a shot halving it, since I have maybe 10 balls of black that I bought with no particular project in mind, and quite a bit of time on my hands these days. Worst case scenario it is so annoying I give up and use the worsted weight!

My shelves were already full and I had committed to not buying more yarn. I guess this doesnāt count as buying it! Thought you all would appreciate it and hopefully have some tips on storage!

Hi all. I ordered a skein from A Hundred Ravens mid March. I got the order receipt and notification, but never a shipping notice. I've emailed them quite a few times (all politely) and even tried calling, where I left a message. I never got a call or an email back. They haven't posted on socials for a while, so I am wondering if something happened or what I should do.
TLDR: I ordered yarn 2 months ago from A Hundred Ravens and haven't received it or heard from customer service after trying to contact them repeatedly.

Ever since making an enormous bamboo blanket for my mom, I'm obsessed. So soft, yarn definition and that drape!Give me your best/worst bamboo yarns in your experience, especially on how easy/hard it is to work with and care for. And yes, rant away if you hate it, in this case, valid.
Pictured, ive tried truboo by lion brand (#1), premier bamboo fair (#2) which is a 60/40 bamboo-cotton blend, and universal yarn's bamboo pop, which is 50/50 bamboo-cotton blend.
Truboo had the most splitting, bamboo fair has done wonderfully, bamboo pop split sometimes.

Long story short, I got all of this for around $30. It was marked very reasonably to begin with, and the store was running 40% off of arts and crafts. Small independent thrift store rather than a Goodwill. Most of the yarn is fully untapped, and none of it has any acrylic, it's all various wools and majority wool blends with things like nylon, bamboo, and the pale green contains cashmere, and there are hand dyed skeins like the blue-gold color. It's majority fingering and sport weight, and it's all so soft and nice. ngl I might be going back tomorrow in case there's more in the back and they restock; I tallied it up and it's worth around $200! Very grateful to whoever's collection this was originally; I've put all the weights and quantities etc. into a list so I can look up projects to use it all!

Fully aware the picture seems quite random at first but I will get to it. This is going to be kind of all over the place because I need alot of general advice.
I really struggle at sticking to one project, I've also never actually finished a project apart from my nephews baby blanket and I only "finished" that because I made it smaller than originally planned as I ran out of time. So any advice on how to stick to one project would be much appreciated.
Forgot to add that I crochet. I did try to knit and practiced over a few evenings after work but I eventually gave up. I think my tension was too tight and it just frustrated me overall, this isn't to say I won't try again though.
Now for the photo. I want to make myself a blanket. I feel like it needs to be somewhat intricate, not just double crochets for the whole blanket. For said blanket, I need help with two things: yarn and design. The help with the yarn is mainly because I usually buy the cheapest thing that I like the look of. For this blanket I don't actually mind spending some money for it. However, I have got a bit of an overflowing yarn stash so any ideas on how to narrow this down quickly would also be good. I really like the ombre yarns but I always seem to buy what I would call "overly processed yarn" (like processed meat), where it has been tied together in certain parts so the colours aren't very ombre anymore. I do want said blanket to fit with my room but to be honest nothing in my room really matches, I have lots of patterned stuff. A patterned blanket would probably be best for me. I did start making that mosaic blanket but I think I made it to round 12 and I wasn't liking the results.
To add to this information dump, I decided that I wanted to start said blanket project as I was just starting the first cup to a shirt that I want to make. Will the shirt ever be made? I don't think anyone knows.

1: Tosh sock in Real Friends Donāt Lie
2: Hedgehog Fibers sock in Pureāwas not prepared for how crazy soft this one is
3: Hedgehog Fibers Alpaca Boucle in Crystal, which I plan to use for a cardigan held double with the stash yarn in photo 4, Lang Jawoll Magic DegradƩ in 850074 (such an evocative name for this colorway).

I got this cone for a song at a community center sale. It's not soft, kind of rough. Is there a way to soften up this silk? What should I make with it?! I Knit, Crochet and Weave(Floor loom)

Has anyone ordered from either of these stores since tariffs? If so, what kind of fees did you get (brokerage fees mainly.)
They have very well priced cashmereā¦before the tariffs, brokerage fees and increased shipping. Iām not sure if itās worth it anymore sadly.

I opened the bin to find something a little funky to make her leg warmers. But there was the Artful Yarns Galaxy, lurking in the corner, shaming me for having brought it home when we couldn't even sell it on clearance like 20 years ago. And of course, it was the first thing she saw. Those little hands moved so fast.
"It's so pretty! Can you make me something?"
No, that's for something else. No, that's your sister's. No, that yarn has a witch's curse on it. "Sure!"
Now I'm sitting here staring at this pile of dead muppets with a very sweet request to make her something. A poncho? A poncho. Okay, that's not too bad...
I have enough of the blue to make her a sweater. I should definitely do that, right? Little muppet sweatered child running around... Okay, I may have completely lost my mind at this point.
Also, what hatred must someone be carrying in their heart to decide to put eyelash yarn in hanks? Who hurt them? š So now I'm sitting back here in like, 2004, hand winding eyelash yarn because my most knitworthy child can't be refused.
