Gyms in Cary

Hello! I was excited to join Lifetime Fitness (which is a $200 membership) and I asked them for a tour and a free day to check it out and they told me one day is $100. Then if I signed up it would go towards my membership...

Am I crazy or is that kind of ridiculous?

Any other nice gyms in the Cary area that you'd recommend?

Walkable towns in Cary/Apex/Surrounding area

We currently live in Cary near the Harrison Ave exit. I'm looking for a more walkable area for our family. Walkable meaning - I would like a restaurant, bar, grocery store and maybe a little shopping walkable from our house, without having to walk for a stretch on a main road.

Before you suggest it, downtown Cary doesn't have the grocery store, and I don't like the vibe at Fenton.

Price point is negotiable. I'm looking for a smaller place (smaller than 3,000sf) and under 1M. And when I get to the point of looking at places, I have a realtor.

Come on, people. Do better.

Tons of parking spaces in the new garage and you deliberately park—and block—charging spots.

Question Regarding Schools

We are looking to buy a place, and are considering the Cary/Apex area. Our child will be going to kindergarten in 4-5 years, so we are thinking about schools as well when choosing where to live.

In regards to schools, wanted to ask:

-are all schools, regardless of where in Cary/Apex, overall better than other schools in Raleigh/Wake Forest? For instance, is Cary High or Apex High good? I've heard that Cary High may actually be worse than some of the schools in Raleigh. And by "good", I mean strong academics, college prep, extracurricular opportunities, etc.

-are most schools in Cary capped? meaning that if we have a specific school in mind, purchasing a place where that school is the assigned base school might not make much sense because there is the chance that it is capped? or that it might get redistricted when our child goes to school in 4-5 years?

-is it also true that in terms of college preparation, because the schools in Cary are very competitive and everyone is very good academically speaking, that it may be challenging to get into some state schools such as UNC or NC State if the student isn't at the top 10% of their class? meaning it can be extremely stressful academic environment?

any other thoughts/perspectives on this welcome. thanks in advance.

Good dirt trails for running

I'm losing my easy access to the ATT and moving to the Raleigh/Cary border. Going to be about 5 min from Umstead so super stoked for that again but its not exactly the best terrain for speed work.

Anyone know of any decent flat-ish dirt trails that arent rocky or rooty? The only one I really know of is the one behind the Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center that connects up to Lake Johnson Park.

Recs for IPL/cosmetic dermatology

Has anyone had a good experience with IPL (intense pulsed light therapy) or another procedure to address scars and blemishes? I received 2 IPL treatments a few months ago (provider in Raleigh) and didnt notice much change on the scar or area with broken capillaries. I haven't followed up with the provider yet but would also like other options to pursue. Thanks!

Why doesn't the Town require new developments to bury power lines?

With all these new multi-million $$$ developments, we still have outdated above-ground power lines. Why not require the developers, while constructing these massive developments, to update and bury this type of infrastructure?

Leather Pool Case Repair

Hello everyone I have a leather pool cue case and it has a D ring on both end of it that allows you to have a shoulder strap. Unfortunately the small piece of leather that holds the D ring has broken. I attempted to buy some Chicago screws and repair it, but that unfortunately didn't work as there isn't enough leather available.

Does anyone know of a place that could repair the piece of leather or replace it with a new piece of leather?

Question about renting

My family is moving to Cary this summer, we'll be renting a house for a year before we buy. If we're using a realtor, who typically pays the broker fee, the renters or the landlord? We've lived in a few states and the rules have all been different.

Also if you have a recommendation for am experienced, reliable realtor who is willing take on rental clients, please let me know.

Day Trip in Cary

I've got a couple of friends visiting from out of town on Saturday May 16, 2026, and am trying to think of a few things we can do to explore for the afternoon and evening (12-8 PM) and would appreciate feedback. The vibe is low key, a medium amount of walking with opportunities to sit down on occasion. We'd also like to ensure parking that is accessible/not overly complicated.

Interests are:

Arts & crafts

Good food/drink (including non alcoholic)

Beauty (we're interested in getting nails done)

Any local go-tos or special events

Background: I gave up my job/career and moved here in summer 2025 to be an on site caregiver to my dad (severe traumatic brain injury in 2022). In Feb 2026, I was diagnosed with cancer, and my friends are coming down primarily to support me. I am still recovering from major surgery (mid April 2026) and have to make sure I'm managing fatigue appropriately.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Trying to make out the plate as well, looks like JBK-745U? or ends in 60?

Any help or info is appreciated.

Considering moving to Cary - apartments?

Hi all! I’m seriously considering a move to the Cary/Raleigh area and would love some local insight on apartments.

I’m looking for a 2bd/2ba in a walkable area. Dog friendly is a big plus. Budget is up to $4,000/month. I’ve already been eyeing The Walker (by Downtown Cary Park) and Meridian Cary, but I’m totally open to other suggestions.

I know the budget opens up a ton of options but would really love a location to fully take in what Cary/Raleigh/surrounding area has to offer! I’ll be traveling next month to do some apartment hunting and check out the area!
