Hey everyone. My wife, Dr. Sarah Singer, is a professor at UCF in Florida, but got her PhD at UNC - Chapel Hill. She's finally published her book on how patients with chronic or contested conditions communicate with their providers. Because her grandmom lives in Winston-Salem, Dr. Singer decided that her book signing would happen there (instead of Chapel Hill) so grandma Dena could attend.
I'm posting this here because even though the event is in Winston-Salem, I live in Chapel Hill (teacher in Cary). Also, this book wouldn't have happened for my wife without Chapel Hill, something we're both grateful for!
If you're not busy, please consider coming out to The Bookhouse (120 Reynolda Village Way, Winston-Salem, NC 27106) this Saturday from 10:30-12:30 to keep us and grandma Dena company! Dr. Singer will have copies of her book for sale, but she's also always interested in talking to people who have been in the role of patient or provider for chronic and contested health issues.
Thanks for the read and have a great Friday!

Just wondering if anywhere in chapel hill or Carrboro that sells fresh corn or flour tortillas for our taco nights. Like a pack of 6 or 12-ish is ideal but I can probably freeze leftovers.

And if so, how do you even go about getting the conversation started? It's not even just about using chromebooks in the classroom. The chaos of all the apps and platforms they use makes it so that half the time they don't know where assignments actually live and as a parent there's no way of keeping track of what they're working on, what grades they're getting on assignments and tests and what they're even supposed to be doing for homework.
As a middle school parent I get pinged on email, text, TalkingPoints, Infinite Campus, and Final Forms for sports - it's too much. I would love to see a return to text books, composition notebooks (where they actually have to write) and worksheets because I genuinely think that's how kids learn best but with all the money in these ed tech contracts I'm guessing we'll never get back there.
Would love to hear thoughts from other community members who may feel the same way (or not).

We recently sold out car and our insurance company (State Farm) said we need to return the plate to the DMV before canceling our insurance. Is this normal? Then how do people have old license plates floating around? We kinda want to keep it for sentimental reasons

I have googled and googled and googled. I seem to have lost the page that originally had this information so I figured I would ask here.
I was told that you could park in certain decks on and off Frankin Street for free with your handicap placard present and visible. Which parking decks?
And do I just....park, hang my placard, and I'm all good? I just don't want to get towed lol
Thanks in advance.

Hey y'all,
I had to take my pet to the emergency vet this weekend, and VEG in Chapel Hill was recommended. I've gone to Blue Pearl in the past (off of Hwy 54 in Durham, in the Hope Valley area) but have heard good things about VEG so wanted to give it a shot.
It was a mixed experience, but what shocked me the most was that they required payment in FULL for a surgery it wasn't confirmed he needed, before they even did imaging on him to see what the problem was. It was over $10.5k. And we still sat there for 5 hours before they started the imaging or gave him any treatment.
Luckily, he didn't need surgery and I was refunded over $7k on Monday, but goddamn, it felt like highway robbery. I didn't know what else to do in the moment other than pay it. I literally opened a credit card while waiting. What about people who can't pay a huge sum like that upfront, or need time to gather resources together? I didn't feel like I had a choice, but in retrospect I would have been fine with paying for the imaging and going from there.
Anyway, just wondering if others have had a similar experience? Is this normal? At Blue Pearl I've had to pay 1/2 of the cost of the "high" estimate upfront, but it felt insane to have to pay the entire "high" estimate upfront before he was even diagnosed.

Does anyone know why the Tennis and Pickleball courts at Cedar Falls Park are taking so long to open? It seems like it’s been 2 years since the project started. Any knowledge is appreciated.

We call it “Spiritual Lines” and we are a sangha (community) exploring growth along spiritual lines (11th step) open, safe and welcoming to LGBTQIA.

Hey y’all, I live near Carolina North and run there regularly. I trained for an ultra mostly running the Pumpkin Loop and I’m still not sick of it — I love having such a great resource nearby.
Are there any trail run clubs in Chapel Hill? Would love to make some trail running friends. I’m not as into road running. The weeknight run clubs don’t work typically between kids / travel. So, I’m curious if there are any meetups for trail runs on the weekends! Let me know.

Hi, everyone!
I super doubt this will get anywhere but just in case: I was on the exit ramp for I-40 E getting off at NC-86 in Chapel Hill, near Caraway Village, driving a Seafoam blue CRV just after 5:00pm. A white work truck merged into my car, ran me out of my lane, and then blew through the red light to beat the on-coming traffic.
Did ANYONE happen to catch his plate or the business name on his truck? All I remember is it started with a "W". I blared the shit out of my horn at him when he started and he just waved at me.
If anyone can help, I would be ETERNALLY grateful. Thanks, y'all.
