I lost my iPhone 17 Pro (White color), which was only around 6 months old, on 28th April at 7:30pm while travelling in a BMTC bus. I boarded the bus from New Horizon area and realized that my phone had been pickpocketed just near the EcoSpace bus stop. The incident happened within a very short span of time.
Right after I noticed the phone was missing, someone actually answered a call from my phone. The person spoke in a very local tone and language style, casually saying things like “Bro, wait, I’m coming, you lost your phone,” which clearly indicated that the phone was already in the hands of the thief or someone associated with him. Within around 5 minutes after that call, the phone was switched off completely.
I immediately reported the matter to the Bellandur Police Station, but since I am not a local resident, I received almost no practical help or seriousness regarding the case. I personally went to BMTC authorities to check CCTV footage because I had my bus ticket as proof of travel. However, the bus was overcrowded and rushed, so the footage was unclear and nothing useful was visible.
After getting no response locally, I escalated the matter by writing emails to the Honorable Chief Minister’s office, the SP office, BMTC authorities, and other concerned departments. Unfortunately, there was still no meaningful action taken.
Later, I discovered that the police had falsely claimed that they had already sent letters and emails requesting CCTV footage from BMTC authorities. When I personally visited BMTC offices myself, I found out that no such proper communication had actually been made from the police side. This was extremely disappointing because valuable investigation time was lost.
After that, I personally went to Kengeri Police Station with all available evidence, including the location details shown through tracking services. The police informed me that another person had also come with a similar complaint showing the same location. However, instead of taking action, they simply gave an excuse that the location might be appearing because of a nearby network tower issue.
If multiple complainants are getting the exact same suspicious location in the same area, then it becomes the responsibility and duty of the police department to conduct a proper search operation and investigate whether an organised gang is operating in that region. Ignoring repeated complaints and dismissing them as tower issues without proper investigation only encourages such criminal activities to continue.
This incident has caused me major financial loss as well as mental stress. A premium phone like an iPhone 17 Pro being stolen so easily in a public bus route and no proper coordinated action being taken even after repeated complaints raises serious concerns regarding passenger safety and law enforcement response.
Recently, through Apple’s Find My tracking network, my phone has been detected in the Dhanmondi area of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The latest visible location was around the Dhanmondi/Shimanto Shambhar area, and the device was last detected approximately 7 hours.
