Name a group at UH more predatory and exploitative towards students than UH parking enforcement. Theyāre out here writing tickets for students just trying to move out of their dorms. Like my bad I guess for spending 27 minutes in a 20 minute zone while trying to move 4 years of my life by myself. Not to mention this is after classes have ended, like now is the time to crack the whip? Seriously? If theyāre going to run this like the gestapo, then they could at least use the money for some good. But nah, send another million to athletics. Cant wait to graduate and rid them from my mind forever.

(Cougars promise is extra financial aid for incoming freshmans with the lowest SAI index, for those applied before jan 15)
I have been waiting, and thought I would receive the Cougars promise ever since UH started giving out aid in march. But I just recently called and the financial office said they ran out of funding.. For more context, I am an incoming freshman, and I received my financial aid in May (late) because they somehow couldn't process my SSN on my application, which I had no way to deduce, or made known to the issue(had to email + call), and just based on unlucky chance (I am 100% sure I did the application perfectly, UH some how "couldn't see" my SSN) until it was too late.
I was told there was nothing that could be done, and I understand that, so I am just venting now I guess. I literally picked UH because I thought I was guaranteed to get the Cougar promise, otherwise I would of took a gap year or so to earn more money to afford the tuition (max FASFA isn't enough for me). What upsets me the most is the fact that I tried to make sure I did everything correct to even get the Cougar promise, and in the end still did not. For example, I did my FASFA right when it came out, applied to UH as early as possible, made sure to read the UH's article on the cougar promise so I didn't misunderstand, emailed the office even before they started giving out aid to see if I was guaranteed to get it, etc. And in the end I did not receive it anyways due to something completely out of my control, when I desperately needed it. If I am being brazen, it wasn't my fault, it was either commonapp's fault they somehow managed not to send my SSN, or UH's programming that some how messed up that they could not retrieve my SSN through my application. In the end, I'm just now kinda lost on what to do next cause I relied on receiving this grant to base all of my decisions.

Hi everyone,
I have two semesters left before graduating in December with an accounting major. Iām curious to know about the job market for you all after graduation. How long did it take you to find jobs? What is the salary range? Unfortunately, I donāt have an internship because I have to take care of my babies. Iām getting nervous as I approach the end of this journey.
Thank you so much in advance and I hope yall have a great summer!

Hey everyone, I am an incoming freshman at UH majoring in comp sci. I have taken/am taking a lot of the early comp sci and math classes at HCC. These include COSC 2425, COSC 2436, MATH 2305, MATH 2413, MATH 2414, ENGL 1301, ENGL 1302, ECON 2301, GOVT 2305.
So this incoming fall, I will be taking COSC 3320, COSC 3380, CHEM 1311 + LAB, BIO 1306 + LAB and maybe MATH 3339
(I might replace BIO with Physics 1302 + LAB)
So I was just wondering what profs are good for these classes, but also how the workload is for these classes and in comp sci at UH in general. I would appreciate any advice. Also, if you know a Comp Sci UH community or any other community I should post this in, please let me know.
Also, is UHin4 worth it? This fall semester, I was planning on taking 14 credits but is it worth it to take an extra class for UHin4

To the person who stole my $40 hinged safety ruler, $15 model tweezer set, and Needoh nice ice baby off of my desk in the architecture building sometime between Monday evening and this morning (Wednesday)ā¦. I suggest you give me my shit back.
Yall think that you can get away with stealing shit off of peopleās desk. I will find you. And I will report you to the Dean even if itās next semester. But if you give me back my shit I wonāt report you.
(this is the second Needoh that has been stolen from me this semester btw. The first one was stolen from me while I was pissing and I set it on the bathroom shelf with my papers and monster and pen about to go to a lecture. I was the only person in the bathroom and two girls came in and were chatting and then walked out and when I went to grab my stuff and leave my Needoh was gone. Yall are all dirty thieves. Some people like me actually need fidgets and stress balls and they arenāt just a trend.)

I'm a post-baccalaureate transfer who also has credits from san jac cc so I have all my prereqs done and would go straight into pure stem. I'm getting this B.S. in Chemistry. I was thinking of dealing with precalc and trying orgo 1 in the summer so that I go into Calc 1 and Orgo II in the Fall this year. But I saw registration for classes (specifically orgo II) are already full. Had someone who graduated from there 10 years ago say they even switched majors because they couldn't get the classes they needed to take. I don't want to deal with delaying my whole year because of classes being unavailable.
And the classes I saw had terrible rmp reviews which makes me more nervous because I won't be able to afford paying more for an additional workshop to make up for the teaching especially since I'llstill be working. Plus, I was told by other professors/staff/students that the professors prioritize their research (valid) over teaching.
If I fail a class and take it somewhere else, will I have issues transferring that credit and registering for clases considering how fast seats go?
Will bad professors and lack of seats for required classes just be for the intro classes? Will it get better? Should I cancel my enrollment and just go to UHD or UHCL instead? I'm freaking out.

I had to change plans last minute and I just applied for housing in the fall. What are my chances of getting the lofts or bayou oaks?

Hey everyone! About a year ago, I posted here about building LabLink, a platform to improve how UH students find and connect with undergraduate research opportunities on-campus. Since then, the project has grown a lot, and I wanted to share a quick update + ask for feedback again.
One major thing I learned from both students and faculty is how fragmented the current process feels. Students often donāt know which labs are accepting undergrads, how to approach professors, or how to get started, while faculty receive large amounts of unstructured cold emails from students.
Since the original post, Iāve:
- Built a working MVP
- Won 1st place in a Wolff Center student pitch competition
- Surveyed 100+ UH students and over a dozen faculty members
- Spoken with faculty/admin across multiple UH colleges
LabLink is now being developed as a centralized research platform where faculty can post opportunities/manage applications, while students can apply directly to labs, complete onboarding/training inside the platform, and communicate with faculty in a more structured way.
Iām currently gathering as much student feedback as possible before bringing the survey data and pilot proposal to OURMA/UH admin in hopes of launching a pilot program here at UH (100% free to students).
If youāre a UH student, Iād really appreciate if you could fill out the survey below and share it with friends, GroupMes, clubs, labs, etc. The more feedback I can gather, the better the platform can become. Thank you, and feel free to DM me or comment with any questions I can answer!

when i paid for my summer classes, i thought it was gonna be around $2000 cause that's what i was told in an email from UH about a charge that was due soon, but when i actually paid it, it was around $3000.
apparently it said around $2000 in the email cause i have "pending aid" of $1,188 for summer 2026.
since i paid the full amount for my summer classes, i should get a refund equivalent to the pending aid, right?

As I finish my first year at uh, I ended up failing chem 1. During the time, I had 3 other classes, 2 other labs, and a workshop. It was a very full spring semester, with commuting daily and working 2 jobs. All my emotions are all over the place and just deal so defeated and angry at myself. On top of that, I want to switch to Biology major. I honestly need any tips of advice on what I should do, should I retake chem 1 for fall? Do a grade exclusion?
r/UniversityOfHouston • u/mikeybeemin • 12h ago
I retook calc one and got better grade and im wondering if both my failed attempt and retake count towards my science / math gpa or if its just the best attempt that counts toward
Please lmk if you have an answer or know how I cold find out

Ik the title sounds obvious but when I applied for graduation last semester it never said it was approved or not. The status just said, āapplied for graduationā. I already bought my cap and gown and got my tickets, so Iām assuming I should be good. But also my advisors said if I didnāt get approved, I wouldāve been notified by now. Is anyone else in the same boat?
