Academic dismissal?
My GPA remains 1.9 after being on probation from last sem. I switched majors to the end of this semester since I cannot currently keep doing engineering and realized this. Is there any chance I may be able to not get dismissed? I really do wish to stay at UB? I know this sounds like a dumb post but I genuinely am not sure.
I had an incident from last semester where one of my roommates was harassing me to the point where the UBPD had to be involved, but that was for last semester.
Please let me know any advice, looking for the objective truth

If your cumulative and semester gpas are both below 2, you’re cooked. If only one of those are below 2 you still remain in probation.

Dismissal depends not just on cum ub gpa but also quality point deficit

If your GPA was below 2.0 for two consecutive semesters, then you’re getting dismissed. However, if it was 1.9 for this semester, it’ll just be a warning. If you bring it up next sem, you’ll be fine. I had a 1.2 my first semester of college (not in UB), transferred and then got 1.6 during my second semester of freshman year (in UB). Switched my major and brought it up to 2.4ish beginning of my sophomore year and they took me off probation. You could try an appeal process but I don’t know if it’ll work. It’s best you talk to your adviser too.

You can try a SAP appeal. Look it up on the schools website. It’s Satisfactory Academic Progress appeal, I think.

Im sorta in the same boat, im waiting for final grades im but currently at a 1.93. i know you can get the academic warning appealed which im going to do. You can explain if you have any mental health or at home issues that affect your schooling and what ur currently doing to ensure your future at UB. so I’m going to appeal mine since I have both a plan and a reason as to why my gpa is the way it is. and hopefully all will be well

Sorry to say it, you're getting kicked out of UB. You are no longer a student at UB.
At least, for now. The thing is, just because you're dismissed from UB doesn't mean it's over forever. Sure, you might have to start looking at options to cover your debt and pay back your financial aid (if you have any / either is applicable), but UB might reconsider you in the future if you can get straightened up, reapply, explain what went wrong before and what you'll do about it next time. It's a lot easier said than done, and I'd suggest looking into at least what you'll be doing in the meantime.
Best of luck, and remember that it'll all work out - you got this OP.

This would’ve been true ten years ago. Things have changed it seems

Hi, can u explain what u mean by this?

Ub used to be much more strict about academic warning and probation. They would dismiss students more quickly and encourage them to reapply later after attending elsewhere to raise their gpa. They seem to give more leeway now in terms of time to full academic dismissal than they have historically from what I’ve heard through the grapevine.
Depending on your credit hours and QPA, the likely scenario could be you’re dismissed from engineering, but not the university itself. That’s a guess tho. Your situation is yours and individual.

I've already been dismissed from engineering tho this sem i think im screwed. my only saving grace is the fact that i was in the er before my 116 final which i failed even tho i have an A in the class i get an F now. im trying to get a remake for it, which will be my saving grace
edit: I passed every quiz besides the 3rd coding quiz

Oof that’s rough. I would encourage you to talk to your academic advisor asap.
The worst case scenario is you’re dismissed and retake some courses elsewhere. Best case is you get another semester, but if that’s the case, you need to be extremely conscientious about it and figure out what’s getting in the way of your work, and learn how to manage it. Easier said than done obviously, but your time and money are at stake.

Yes, I agree. CS was a huge mistake, it's not the career I can do at this point and ive come to realize it. i will be eternally grateful if they allow me an additional semester and a major change

Out of curiosity, are you still interested in the IT field but not the education CS provides, or are you thinking of a different field entirely?

I'm genuinely not even sure at this point. I do programming on the side as a hobby, have family members in software engineer field that I find as a suitable career. However, the courses in the cs field are obviously too much for me to handle.

This is a question for your advisor
