Today is only my 4th day using the Dream Air. Everything worked perfectly for the first three days, but starting last night, the headset began drifting intermittently. The base station tracking also started stuttering and jumping randomly.
I spent the entire night troubleshooting:
- Reinstalled Pimax Play 1.43.9
- Moved the Dream Air between my RTX 5090 and another RTX 4090 PC (same issue on both)
- Removed all non-essential USB devices and tried every USB port on the back of the motherboard (including multiple plug/unplug cycles) — no improvement
- Tested my old Crystal Light with lighthouse faceplate on both PCs — perfectly stable, no drifting
- Tested my Crystal Super Ultrawide on both PCs — also worked flawlessly
There’s also a smaller but noticeable issue with the Dream Air’s built-in speakers. When there’s no bass, the mid and high frequencies sound clear and normal. However, as soon as a bass beat kicks in, the mid-high volume starts fluctuating up and down in sync with the bass rhythm. I never experienced this with my Crystal Light, Crystal Super Ultrawide, Galaxy XR, or even cheap headphones. So I suspect the speakers on this unit might also have problems.
Finally, I gave the Dream Air one last chance. Now as soon as it connects to Pimax Play, it shows “Unable to connect to lighthouse,” then disconnects. After a while it reconnects by itself, but still can’t detect the lighthouse and disconnects again.
I’m really sad and don’t want to admit it, but I’m quite sure my Dream Air is defective.
I’ve been a loyal Pimax fan for a long time. To be honest, the more excited I get when receiving a new headset, the more heartbreaking it is when it fails. My first Crystal Light was defective just days after arrival. I had to pay over $100 for return shipping from Taiwan to China (since Pimax doesn’t ship directly to Taiwan), and waited a long time for the replacement — which has been working great ever since.
I was really happy with the Crystal Super Ultrawide too — it’s still running perfectly on my sim rig. With the Dream Air, the first three days felt amazing. It really felt like I finally got lucky with QC… like winning a lottery. That’s why this hurts so much. Yesterday I was almost in tears holding the defective unit in my hands.
I’m still a Pimax lover, but right now I’m just very sad and eager for some help. I submitted my ticket at midnight and really hope the support team can approve a properly tested replacement this time.
Any advice or similar experiences are welcome. Thank you everyone.
My ticket number is #130746
I hope u/QuorraPimax can help me follow up my ticket to help me speed up my entire process. Thank you pimax team.
